Robben

With all the money being splashed by Real this summer some of there current squad are up for sale. Its been reported that Spurs were interested in signing Hunterlaar, Hienze and Robben for a combined £30m. With all the silly money being quoted for players at the minute this sounds like very good business, fortunatly Robben's dad and agent has been quoted as saying that even if his son was transfer listed he would'nt be going to Tottenham.

Would any of us like to see 'Robben good flying down the wing' at the bridge again next year?

yes i know he has injuries but if you could get him for £10-£15m at a time when top quality wingers are at a premium(and he is top quality) would we have him back?

I for 1 would have him back in a shot, and i think he'd come too. He has been back to visit the bridge several times since his transfer, and out with old team mates etc.

Even if his injuries persist he has got to be worth it. I'd rather have him playing 25-30 games a season than Kalou. Robben coming of the bench can change any game and we would'nt have drawn half the home games we did last year had we had that option.

£60-70m for Ribery who's to say he wont break his foot and miss half a season?

If we could bring back Robben relatively cheaply when we are crying out for quality on the wings then i think we'd be mad not to. Robben and Ribery would make us an attractive attacking team overnight, over to you Carlo and Roman.

Er, but you could say that about anyone. I mean, what's the point is signing Aguero for 40M, as he might get hit on the head by a stray cricket ball, forget how to play football and decide to become a Namibian chicken farmer.

Any signing is always a risk, but Ribery sure as hell seems more robust than a lot of wingers out there, especially when compared to Arjen.

I do agree, however, that Robben is worth considering if he is coming on the cheap. Who knows, under a new, potentially more attacking manager, he might be a bit more consistent?

robben has to be considered the best value deal in the world at the minute. you are getting a player who is arguably one of the best 10 players in the world for 8-15 million. any team would be crazy not to look at him. madrid are the craziest wanting to sell him. they are only selling him so guti and raul can have a place in their 25

if we signed aguero and robben we'd be unstoppable

cech

bosingwa --- alex --- terry --- cole

robben --- essien --- lampard --- malouda

aguero --- drogba

Woudn't mind having some flair back in the team. Robben at best is something beautiful to watch. He sometimes chooses to shoot instead of passing to an open player but otherwise great player.

I'm not sure if he want's to come back to prem though. I have a feeling he might go to Italy. Not to Jose but maybe Milan.

The most important thing people seem to forget regarding the Robben transfer is that he was given his fair share of chances. Whenever he got injured, the club waited patiently for his recovery and he'd almost be an automatic start when he returned to fitness. In the end, it just wasn't meant to be. Nothing about Robben's time at Madrid suggests that he is any less injury-prone now than he was back then. Many people argue that signing Robben would be a great risk. I'd say its not a risk in that it involves no chance. It is pretty much guaranteed that he will be injured. He is a guaranteed liability. He is a liability in that he is injured half the season. He is a liability in that the team has to continually adjust to his absence and presence. He is also a liability in that he goes missing against big teams.

Apart from all this. you know whenever you get back with an ex, things can never be as good as they could have been had you not parted.

I think Robben averaged about 35 games a season while with us, not bad, not great. He did have a broken foot as well so its not like he did'nt fancy it.

I'd rather have a player in the squad who misses games through injury than thats not good enough to get a game when fit.

I'd have him back tomorrow, he's got to be bargain of this transfer window.£8m for Robben when Downing is being touted around for £12m? Do me a favour?!!!

8M for Robben instead of 60m for Ribery, and spend the other £52m elsewhere in the team.

Even if a bench warmer, he'd have more effect on a game than Kalou from the bench as mentioned above

Considering the up-turn in Flo's form towards the end of the season, I believe we just need someone to push him continually. A Zhirkov or Robben would not be bad alternatives; that is, if Ribery wants to go to Barca.

Cheers,

Butch

I think a lot of people on this forum have got either short memories or selective memories.

While Arjen Robben was with us he looked like he was aiming to inherit Darren Anderton's nickname of "Sicknote", he was injured so often. And when the going got tough, Robben got going - in the opposite direction. There's no doubt he's a great player, but I can never forgive him for his non-appearance at Anfield in the CL, I still get angry when I think about that!

I'd like him back on two conditions -

1) he doesn't get paid when he's injured

2) he has to endure a right good kicking from the rest of the team if he ever goes missing again like he did against Liverpool

Cant agree more. Robben was dynamite on his day. But apart from between Oct 04 and Jan 05 how many days was that exactly ?

I dont ever think he recovered from Blackburn and teams just got wise to him and that all he needs is a reducer. Perfect example being Cup Final 07. How long did he last ?

Agree..

but he is on his day one of the best easy up there with Ronaldo and Messi.

On talkscouse this morning they had their scottish bloke over in spain, and he was saying he is fitter than ever, so I dont know, he is worth a punt I reckon if we get him cheap. I think I would. My fear is he goes somewhere else in the prem and he is brilliant, not a justification for getting him back in itself of course.

Correct me if I'm wrong (or perhaps I dreamt this) but didn't one of the medical staff at Real Madrid or some doctor that worked with/for them give Robben some treatment and then stated that he would be much stronger now and much less prone to injuries?

Not sure if it worked that well seing as Robben has been injured this season as usuall, but maybe it helped a bit?

Maybe Robben is ready to play with the big strong lads in England again?

a squad player?!?!

who do we have at the minute who would keep 1 of the best wingers in the world (maybe the best out and out winger) out of the team?

it would be a massive coup to get him back

If Malouda, and I know it's a big if, starts next seson the way he finished last season, he would be a serious contender, also with Joe Cole back he could be another option.

Even if Robben is picked when fit I cant see him playing more than 30 games in all competitions, which just wouldn't be enough if we are succesfull on all fronts. Remember, The Premier League is a very physical league.

I'd love to see Robben back. If he can manage 20-25 games a season, it'll be terrific. Malouda can take care of the rest. This being the WC season, the fixtures are more crammed than ever and we would need a big squad. I just hope we go for him.

Not a chance. If he's too weak to play for Real Madrid in the Spanish league he's never going to have the bottle to make it in the premiership, regardless of how much talent he's got.

Ha! Never going to make it in the Premier League? I think he already did.

Of course injury problems make him less attractive, but I'd rather have him playing for me than against me.

The thing is though, he came off the bench in that cup final, changed the game, run Wes brown ragged until he was kicked/fouled off the pitch, and was the best player by a mile while out there.

Just like his introduction against Arsenal in Cardiff the year before league cup final swung the game for Chelsea.
