Posted August 4, 200915 yr http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport...for-Arsene.html By IAN McGARRY Published: Today ARSENAL are on the verge of signing Salomon Kalou from Chelsea. The Gunners have offered £6million for the 28-year-old Ivory Coast striker - but the Blues are insisting on £8m. Emirates boss Arsene Wenger is ready to double his weekly wage to £60,000 and has offered him a five-year contract. Kalou rocked Chelsea in February when he said it would be an honour to play for Wenger. Kalou said: "He is a very great coach and I know that every single player in the world dreams of playing for him. "I have a lot of respect for him, he is one of the best coaches in the world. "Arsenal are achieving huge things and watching them play is beautiful." Chelsea are confident they will complete the signing of £20million-rated AC Milan skipper Andrea Pirlo by next weekend. Chelsea have had a bid of £14m plus Claudio Pizarro rejected. But Pirlo has told AC he wants to follow Carlo Ancelotti to Stamford Bridge. Fine by me !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
August 4, 200915 yr Fine by me, but with Franco also gone, this does leave us a bit short up front for a season of 4-4-2
August 4, 200915 yr We just loaned out 19yr old Franco to Blackburn and looks like we are going to sell 23yr old Kalou to Ars*nal and bring in 30yr old Pirlo...How f*cked up is that. Good deals IMO if you forget the ages but the way we are trimming the squad is not right.. I'm afraid we look like AC Milan now next season. Why can't we slowly but with determination get rid of older players and bring in the young ones?! We should have sold Ballack and now get rid of Deco and Carvo..
August 4, 200915 yr We will only be selling if we know someone is going to join in my opinion. Yep, that has to be the case. Would we be so short sighted to start the season low on strikers ? Di Santo gone, Pizarro and Shev surley going... hmmmm... Ive got no issue with him going, and certainly not to Arsenal. I mean, as ive already said, him lining up against us wouldnt worry me at all. Id rather Arsenal signed Kalou than say Huntelaar! He was a good squad player and by all accounts a nice chap, but we can do so much better. He never really improved in his 3 full seasons and there is only so long a player can be young and raw and a good prospect. As long as we are getting someone else , its a good deal.
August 4, 200915 yr Although Kalou was wasteful in front of goal he created many chances and frequently looked the most likely to do the creative running to break down park the bus defences. He was often a starter last season and personally I think he will be missed. The price mentioned is ridiculously low for some one his age with as much CFC first team experience as he has.

When you think£12m for Bent - the worlds gone mad

Good deals IMO if you forget the ages but the way we are trimming the squad is not right.. Well we can't keep someone just because they're young. Franco isn't ready to play regulary in the first team and Kalou is a waste of space. Sending Franco out on loan and selling Kalou is the right thing to do. If that means our squad will have a slightly higher average age then so be it. It's not the end of the world. Besides we'll get Franco back in january and we might still buy someone resonably young.
August 4, 200915 yr with Joe due back, Kalou's time on the pitch would be limited to say the least, 8 mill sounds a fair deal.
August 4, 200915 yr When you think£12m for Bent - the worlds gone mad bent is worth that imo he'll bag at least 20 goals for sunderland this season wouldn't want us to sell kalou either. def not to arsenal Edited August 4, 200915 yr by sexelk
August 4, 200915 yr bent is worth that imohe'll bag at least 20 goals for sunderland this season wouldn't want us to sell kalou either. def not to arsenal I didn't say I didn't want us to sell him, and agree about Bent, he will get goals. Kalou has been given enough chances at Chelsea and is as easily as frustrating as watching Gronkjear in a Chelsea shirt. But don't think we've ever used him in his best positon. If Arsenal play him down the middle, I think we will see Kalou become a different player, perhaps, he'll never be prolific, but in a different role, he'll look a different player for Arsenal under Wenger. I've always though he's had the potential, perhaps Wenger can finally realise it for him, he did for Henry. I'm not saying he is the next Henry BTW, but used correctly, he can become a different player altogether, if Arsenal have the patience.

I think we must have watched different players ? Guss should be your judge on him and his value as a player . Hauled off after 25 mins in the first half of a champions league game says what a lot of us feel . He hardly appeared back end of last season under Guss for good reason he wasn't good enough .
August 4, 200915 yr Kalou said: "He is a very great coach and I know that every single player in the world dreams of playing for him."I have a lot of respect for him, he is one of the best coaches in the world. "Arsenal are achieving huge things and watching them play is beautiful." Did he really say that :) ? The bloke is obviously delusional. I would suggest a spell in the nuthouse, it's more humane than the shock treatment he would experience at *rs*n*l, when the reality check hits him. Edited August 4, 200915 yr by Valerie
August 4, 200915 yr I agree that he's not good enough for us. Loses the ball in a dribble far too often against decent quality defenders. Misses too many sitters. There was a spell last season when he seemed to be enjoying his wide role and provided some decent ammunition but, with the trophies we're aiming at, he's a way short of the quality demanded.
August 4, 200915 yr How much did we sign Kalou for anyway? I really can't remember if it was a big or small fee.
August 4, 200915 yr How much did we sign Kalou for anyway? I really can't remember if it was a big or small fee. It was undisclosed but thought to be in excess of £3million, so we'll have turned a profit on him if he does go for £8million. Edited August 4, 200915 yr by sweet waffle
August 4, 200915 yr Apparently we bought him for just over 3m pounds. For those peanuts he has scored us a few important goals If Arsenal play him down the middle, I think we will see Kalou become a different player, perhaps, he'll never be prolific, but in a different role, he'll look a different player for Arsenal under Wenger. I've always though he's had the potential, perhaps Wenger can finally realise it for him, he did for Henry. This is what worries me, bigtime. We are gonna sell a fast, nimble forward who still has potential to a rival manager known for honing players into world class talents. If somehow Kalou winds up being an important player for them, I will be pissed

I'm all for selling Kalou, but not to Arsenal because I have a bad feeling Wenger will turn him into a good player who will probably score against us :)

August 4, 200915 yr Kalou's a good player. He was probably never going to be a proper first teamer for us but he's served us well. £8mil is a good deal for both sides - if anybody can get the best out of him it's probably Wenger and £8mil for what is essentially a squad player is as good a price as we'll get. As mentioned, with Di Santo already on loan I'd presume he won't go anywhere unless we're taking somebody else in. ...or Shevchenko and Pizarro are staying.
August 4, 200915 yr I always feared Kalou would end up at Arsenal and I think it's best for the boy if he doe's.. Wenger will likely turn him into a better and more confident player and might even give him game time in his favoured position. It worries me slightly that we are happy to see him go because Franco will be back in January when Kalou for me has proved he can cut it in the Prem far more than young Franco (obviously had more chances but still). I never once saw Sol come off the bench and thought "no not Kalou" which means I must have expected things from him, unless we have a striker lined up I think selling him is a mistake as he has gained a lot of experience here and although he has been at times frustrating, he has also delivered on quite a few occasions. Add to that our right wing options are limited if we were to play with a proper winger and I think Kalous versatility was worth another season waiting for him to fulfill his promise.
