Sturridge to Portsmouth?

F*ckin' ridiculous if we loan him out! If anyone goes out on loan it should be Kalou.

I bet we tried that and no-one wanted the f**ker.

With Pompey trying to avoid relegation, Kalou is hardly the answer to their prayers!

Am i the only one thinking, well this must mean that a new striker is coming in?

I cannot see any reason at all for loaning out Sturridge when he is our third best striker in a fight for two places at the moment. Should Aguero/Dzeko or another class striker come in the door in the next few days it makes more sense.

That was the first thing I thought. And if it does mean that, I would have no problem seeing him go on loan, because he would be first choice there, and I dont wanna see Pompey go down. If we got a new striker and sent him on loan, I would have no problems with it

As for Kalou: if we tried to send him out on loan I am sure he would be turned down because his wages probably do not justify his output. Especially for a cash strapped club.

If he can barely score with the number of chances he's gifted when he plays here, the precious few good chances a lesser club will provide him with would all need to be put away...and that's unlikely to happen.

I also fail to see the merit in sending Sturridge out without another striker coming in. We have Drogs and Anelka, check. If one or both got injured, we'd be relying on the unreliable (Kalou), or the unproven (Borini)....now Sturridge isn't yet reliable, or proven, but at least it's another option.

sturridge may well have crept above kalou in the pecking order, but loaning him out for some regular football could be a good idea.

For one, he obviously has a high opinion of himself and may not be happy by the end of the season if he stays at Chelsea and is not played much.

Secondly, a player of his age can only benefit from maximum first team football, and lets face it he'll be highly rated at pompey and more than likely get regular starts. A decent goal tally and he'll be brimming with confidence and ready to push on next season.

Third, we've demonstrated this season (last night especially) that we can play effectively with a single striker, at least in bread and butter prem games. Both Drogs and Nelks have shown they are more than able to hurt teams in a lone role, and cole, malouda, zhirkov and kalou can all play wide.

Fourth, it might be the humbling experience he needs to spend time with a side under serious threat of relegation.

The only thing for me is having someone better than kalou to fill in when carlo might want to rest one of the big guns, say for a champs league game. But having said that, Kalou might not be great, but he has often done the job, and has 5 in 14 in all competitions this year. Ok, not against great teams, or any in the prem thus far, but nobody said he'd be first choice striker. And in the event of an injury to a top striker, Studge can be recalled. I don't see the problem.

Basically, if he's not essential for the title race, and he can benefit from a loan move, why not? Better than sending kalou on loan, he's clearly not developing at anywhere near the rate we expected, and maybe another relatively anonymous season at chelsea might persuade carlo that he's good backup, but shouldn't feature in his long term plans.

What are his wages? My understanding is they aren't actually that high.

I beleive that most Premiership club would like to have Kalou in their side even if his not at the required standard to make it at Chelsea and the other top end Premiersip sides. I beleive if he were available on a free transfer most Premiership sides would be eager and willing to have a good look at him assuming his wage demands aren't huge.

I also haven't seen much really to suggest Sturridge should be ahead of Kalou in the pecking order at Chelsea, even if Sturridge looks a more promising a prospect in the long term. All the more reason to get him out on loan where he'll play regularly and Kalou can come off the bench.

I don't beleive we should be relying on Kalou as a 3rd choice (first off the bench) striker at Chelsea, I think it's clear dispite his work rate and his general good nature, he hasn't the required quality. But at 4th choice, his as good as most 4th choice forwards in the league. That said, he probably will end up being sold at the end of the season and I don't think that will be such a bad result.

If Sturridge would go I would be really pissed. I don't know about all of you, but when Sturridge or Kakuta are in the lineup I am much more excited to watch the game. I would rather watch them then watch somebody like Deco, Joe Cole, or Kalou.

Do you actualy watch Chelsea? Both Joe Cole and Deco were superb against Brum on Wednesday and contributed hugely to the most exciting Chelsea performances I've seen this season. The two of them are a joy to watch on that kind of form.

I'll agree that have not seen anything overly impressive from Sturridge.

However, he has been putting away the sitters he's been given (for the most part), that in itself places him ahead of Kalou IMO.

I dont think Kalou will progress any further without constant first team application, something Chelsea can not give him unless he progresses further!

It can be a vicious circle!

But can we afford to ship out a striker, which are rare commodities within the club? I think Sturridge is in a good position with us, and in the line-up. My other concern, who will be paying for his wages if he went to Pompey? Their financial status is only getting worst by the day, and they just acquired a good number of players.
