Scooby Blue Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 The after match pundits on whatever the dodgy stream was I was watching it on were raving on about how there's no way Lampard ahould get his place back in the England midfield. Milner is suspended from the next game so the obvious thing would be to put Gerrard back on the left. However the numpty pundit (who I didn't recognise) raved on about how effective Gerrard is without Lampard and his answer was simply to find somebody else. No names mentioned just anybody apart from Lampard. Ok I'll take my blue tinted specs off for a minute and admit Lamps performances in recent years have been below his best, but is Barry really doing anymore than Lamps does? The presenter compared the overall performance to be on a par with the win in Croatia. Am I missing something here? I did miss the first 25 minutes so maybe we looked like Spain for that period I don't know. (not the Spain that have turned up tonight though )
The Brit Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 (edited) to be fair we played well last night, apart from a nervy 10 minutes in the second half...their only shot on target was the 25 yard screamer that went in...dominated pretty much from the start...however, I just couldn't help thinking 'yes but where was this three months ago?' the only way they can make up for south africa will be at euros in two years time. as for articles questioning whether jt or lamps should get back in the side...I say leave them out...will do chelsea a big favour Edited September 8, 2010 by The Brit

Spurs have lost Dawson and now possibly Defoe for a while and Arsenal Wallcott. Thought England looked good for a lot of last night. Not sure about the defence, but Milner and even more so Johnson both look good out wide and I have to say, Barry and Gerrard does seem to work, so why change things just to accomodate Lamps, who hasn't had many good games for England in recent times? IMO he'll be past his best anyway come the Euro finals and certainly by the next World Cup so let us benefit until then rather than England. Still thought Rooney was complete poo!
fester Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 Apparently Gerrard was sensational, driving the team forward!! If he was then I missed it.Rooney had a quiet game for me, but was still hailed for an outstanding performance. What ! Gerrard was hardly in the game, and Rooney was awful apart from the goal. Then again I haven't got HD so I may not have seen things soooo clearly!! :D Still thought Rooney was complete poo! Completely agree. I think Frank should retire from international football as he's not appreciated and prolong his Chelsea career - as Scholes has done with ManUre. It's always Gerrard is God!! When did Stevie me last score 20 goals in a season?
dkw Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 Ive stolen this of another site that a member posted, I think it puts the Lampard/Gerrard thing quite well. So when Lampard plays the withdrawn role, keeps things ticking over and generally plays football how it should be played, he's anonymous, Gerrard does exactly the same thing and its understated excellence. Course it is.
Barn Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 I don't think Lampard should retire from international football, I don't think anyone should unless medical reasons mean they can't cope with the extra games. But I'm not sure he should get in the team at the moment. That said Gareth Barry looked miles short of an international player again last night, I'd rather have David Batty in the holding role, at least he occassionaly timed a challenge properly.

Don't get me wrong I think Lampard should be in the England side, however, most people who aren't Chelsea fans don't want him to. Stevie Me is the 'better player', which relates to my question about when Stevie Me has scored 20 goals in a season. Why is Stevie Me so much more highly rated than Frankie when Frankie's record is better - more goals, more medals? That said, purely from a selfish Chelsea perspective, maybe if he's not first choice / appreciate Frankie should retire from international football.
PloKoon13 Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 This sh*tbag England team doesn't deserve titans of football such as Lampard and Terry. Especially when they're treated in such a disgusting manner by the general public. The same applies for Ashley Cole. If the England fans are so damn pathetic that they have to boo and heckle one of the best players we have every time he touches the ball then he should just retire and let this pathetic side rot in hell. As long as Chelsea stay dominant, I couldn't give a f**k if England get flushed down the toilet by the likes of Wales and a piss poor Bulgaria side.
The Brit Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 let's be honest, all those 'fans' asking for JT and lamps to be dropped are anti-chelsea...reason gerrard has remained popular all these years is liverscum haven't dominated the league like we have in three of the past six years, as well as three fa cups in four years etc ...jealousy...pure and simple
sizzler85 Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 Hi folks , I 've been reading the news reports and special articles about Lampard getting back into the england team as a sub . This is a annoying thing to read and most say that gerrard deserves to be in the centre alongside barry . Why do they want to blame everything on lampard all the time ? It is very irritating to read such things about my favourite player . We don't know what capello has got in his mind . I think at times , why not Lampard and Gerrard make a great midfield combination ? I m sure they can play as effective as Schweini and Khadira played for Germany . Both can anchor the midfield with discipline . Are we never going to see them paired again in the middle ? what is the stumbling block for the managers to instruct them both to keep their positional discipline ? I surely think this pairing can work out in the future if the other forward players are going to be good enough . I would like to see ------ Gerrard ---- Lampard ----- A.Johnson --- Rooney ----- Milner ----------------Defoe -----------------------
Ruh Buh Juh Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 They're far to similar a player to play along side eachother in the middle i.e. both attacking midfielders. Lampard however is way way way way way way more of a box-to-box midfielder to Gerrard, so what Gerrard does is he just hangs up around Defoe/Rooney, looks where Lampard is making his runs, and copies him so they get in eachother's way. It's as simple as that. Gerrard is a Liverpool player, Lampard is a Chelsea player. Which gets the most praise, d'you think?
bonetti Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 I hope Lamps retires and leaves 'third choice' to get on with it.
mbh Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 I hope Lamps retires and leaves 'third choice' to get on with it. I agree entirely, Lamps is not getting any younger and what football he has left should be for the cause of Chelsea, just look at the injuries suffered in just two games for England, Dawson, Defoe, (bet Harry's really pleased) and Walcott seems a curse on London clubs, so you can keep your internationals and Lamps and JT should tell Cappello thanks but no thanks, we like winning trophies not recriminations.
BLUENUT Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 They can play together otherwise Jose wouldn't have made a bid ofr the scouser!! They have never played under a manager who has used them right. If Lampard can play along side Essien, a player who picks the ball up and drives from midfield, he can play with Gerrard who can do a similar job, when he does what he's told. I don't think they have played under a manager who has made Gerrard play with the dicipline he needs to get the best out of the both, because for years all we've heard is where Gerrard can't or doesn't like playing, not a peep from Lampard, even when asked to play a holding role.
Tim W Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 In all honesty they are the sons of Mr & Mrs Ard one's called Lamp and other Gerr and you don't want to pair brothers now do we! Seriously, I think as Bluenut was implying Gs lack of discipline has had a negative impact on Frank's international career, and England's success rather than Lamps cramping Gs style as is so often the view of many reporters.
ethicalstrategy Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 It's amazing how the shape of the team was so much better when Gerrard wasn't absent without leave from his post on the left of midfield. Ashley suddenly had some cover from Milner. Having seen Spurs lose Dawson and Defoe and Arsenal lose Walcott over the last few days I think I'll vote for Frank to forget England and stick to Chelsea. However, that isn't going to happen. Capello needs to think about playing a 3 man midfield to maximise both Gerrard and Lampard.
Scooby Blue Posted September 9, 2010 Author Posted September 9, 2010 The general view of non Chelsea fans (Or should that just be anti-Chelsea brigade?) is that Saint Stevie is playing so much better without Lamps. I don't see any reason why Lamps can't walk straight back into the side. It seems to be a Lampard or Gerrard? argument, and we know who will get the nod whether it's right or wrong. However what has Barry done that is so amazing to guarantee a starting place? What has he done that is any better than Lamps has done alongside Stevie GBH. i guess the argument would be that Barry has allowed Stevie Starfish to play his normal game. When? Also the 'Lampard - Gerrard can't play together' argument has always been a load of bollocks. As midfielders they have both scored there own fair of goals. In my opinion because Lamps scores beyond expectancy of a midfielder in a blue shirt, England fans expect atleast a goal a game from him when he pulls on an England shirt. On many occasions if the one hasn't scored the other has.
Barry Bridges Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 ----------------------Hart-------------------- ------------Jagielka------JT---------------- GJohnson--------------------------ACole ---------------Huddlestone---------------- ------------Lampard----------------------- AJohnson-----------------------------Milner ------------------------Gerrard-------------------- ----------------Rooney--------------------- Is what I'd be trying if I were Capello. I'd have Hargreaves instead of Huddlestone when fit, but I figure Huddlestone has been looking better and better so why not try and groom him/give him a chance at playing holding mid over Barry who (IMO) just is not going to cut it vs top level teams.
ethicalstrategy Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 Trying to predict the next England line up is a mugs game. It's anyone's guess as to who will be fit and available. Capello will have to make changes because he will be without Milner, Defoe, Dawson and Walcott. No doubt others will fall by the wayside come October.
PloKoon13 Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 I really don't know why Scott Parker hasn't been given a chance as the holding mid. Parker playing behind Lampard and Milner/Gerrard/whoever in a midfield three could do a nice job.
Eggy McMuffin Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 errr, because he's not good enough? His competition is Barry....
PloKoon13 Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 His competition is Barry.... This was essentially my point. Parker almost single-handedly kept up a dire West Ham team last season. He's also more capable of playing a pure DM role than Barry, or any other players England have that I can think of. "Best of a bad bunch"?

If your going to settle for someone who isnt world class atm, might as well select someone who has a chance to improve to that level and play for many years.
