July 17, 20206 yr Can't believe Schurrle's retired so young. One of those players i was never happy about us selling, thought he offered something in multiple positions. Anyway, good luck to him and i hope he has a joyous retirement.

July 17, 20206 yr Have to wonder if he’ll regret that when he’s in his 40’s and looking back. Footballers have such a short career window anyway.
July 17, 20206 yr Maybe he’s just not feeling it anymore? Good luck to him anyone, I always appreciated what he brought to the team and was annoyed when we let him go.
July 17, 20206 yr Didn't he have some mysterious health problems when he was with us? Perhaps that plays a part.
July 17, 20206 yr The way this is being reported hints that the main reason for his retirement (and possibly also those mystery health problems earlier in his career) is related to his mental health. It's a shame and I wish him all the best with whatever he does next.
July 17, 20206 yr He really loved being at Chelsea, waxed lyrical about it like he was in Disneyland. I hope he knows that he was appreciated in the time he was here. He says it's hard being away from his family after being sent left and right through loans, it must have been unbearable to not be able to sit out the final year of his contract purely for the money. Putting myself in his shoes he probably feels too much disappointment after dropping from playing for Chelsea in the CL and winning the World Cup to playing for the likes of Fulham and Moscow. Not to mention the whole coronavirus situation making people look at their lives in different perspectives, why go through all the BS that football brings when you need to enjoy the journey as well as the end goal.
July 19, 20205 yr Great interview with Emenalo. Talks about his experiences as a player, as a black man in a pivotal role at a top club, and as the wide-angled lens at Chelsea: https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/jul/19/michael-emenalo-the-narrative-that-white-is-good-has-to-change?CMP=share_btn_tw
July 29, 20205 yr ^ Looks good. Always appreciated what Anelka brought to the club in the late 2000s. A very good striker in his day.

July 29, 20205 yr Crespo says he would like to manage in England. Says when he was at Chelsea his house was crumbling, his wife had suffered a miscarriage and they didn't speak the language so decided to move on. I think he might make a good manager, he has a lot of interesting experience yet what caught my eye was his comments on Mourinho saying he learnt a lot from him in seeing how he dealt with the media and all the other things that go on around the club.
July 30, 20205 yr At the risk of upsetting @Valerie Currently the beautiful human specimen scale; Giroud > Crespo > Cudicini
