Gary Neville retires

Featured Replies

Well I was gonna type all kinds about him but you pretty much covered it to be honest. Bolshy little twat that he is, the day he tried to get the England players to strike over Ferdinands ban was the day I hoped he would get a career finishing injury.

Yeah - he's a knob. He's got a face I could punch for hours.

But............. remember when Utd scored and he ran the length of the pitch to kiss his badge in front of the dippers ?

Fair play to him for that one !

Haha, YES. That brought him back to neutral in my eyes.

Fair enough, the guy was an arsehole and a nasty piece of work to play against, but I will miss his diatribes against Liverpool, and 600 games is nothing to sniff at. Now, that said, I too hope he stays away from a mic. Unless, in his contract, he just gets Liverpool games. That would be great

It must be nice to retire in your mid 30s with a fortune, good health, finances to secure your family for generations, so just lay low gary for, say about 10 years

I'm a bit divided on this one, he's become a complete tosser towards the end of his career, not knowing when to keep his trap shut. But he's the sort of player that if he'd been ours, we'd love him - a decent defender (till recently), loves his club, always gives 100%.

Prick though and I'll be glad to never see his ugly mug on my tv or in the newspaper again.

He'll be applying as Beckham's sponge at LA Galaxy

I agree, he is a dick, but you can't deny his passion for the game and his team

Or his undying passion for Beckham

Or the way he used to hide behind Keanes skirts when there were handbags

Never know we might see 'Rat Face' as a pundit, Id give his horrible accent, 'face for radio' and 'slit your wrists' tone about two weeks

The Telegraph today - ‘Having enjoyed brief stints in the media with MUTV and ITV during the 2002 World Cup, Neville is understood to be at the top of Sky’s wanted list to replace Andy Gray.’

The worst possible news as far as I’m concerned, as he will be an unwelcome addition to the northern bias that already pervades Sky’s coverage of football. Giving him Gray’s job perpetuates the long-held view of most fans - that Sky pander to United at every turn in the mistaken belief that their supporters dominate the subscriber base, whereas, of course, the opposite is true and the vast majority are desperate to see this hegemony come to an end.

Appointing Neville simply because of his United connections (what other reason could Sky possibly have when a proven expert like Ray Wilkins is available?) would not only give the game away in terms of further blatant fostering of ManU obsession, but it would also foist on the viewers an inevitable flow of Manc-minded analysis that’s going to drive us all mad. Imagine his analysis of our matches and just think of the grudging praise, even at the best of times…’Chelsea weren’t bad, I suppose, but….’ followed by as many negatives as he can conjure up, or be prompted to pursue by an eager presenter.

Other teams he despises will get it in the neck too - Fabregas goes over in the box and Neville surely wont be able to separate past experience from the need for present day neutrality, the obvious outcome being ’He went over too easily there, something he’s done before and got away with’. It really is all too predictable and Sky should steer well clear or they will run the risk of alienating a lot of viewers who see Gray’s sacking as an opportunity to make a clean break with self-indulgence, whatever form it takes. I don’t trust Gary Neville to display the high level of neutrality this job cries out for and, what’s more to the point, I don’t think he can trust himself either.

I heard a rumour about Gary and James Cordon being lined up to replace Gray and Keys...back to watching with the Volume down?

the rat-faced bugger got me in trouble with the wife last night - there I was watching MOTD when Gary Tosspot and his Anfield stooges all claimed that Neville was the best right back the Premier league had ever seen. I burst out laughing so loud that I woke the wife and all that that entails ensued! Oh how we laughed. The she said that she didn't think he was even the best right back at united! It all calmed down after a while

noticed when asked about it wenger said, yes best English right back certainly...in other words, he was the best of a bad bunch...

I suspect if he hadn;t played for a successful united side who hid his many deficiencies for many years due to their dominant attack dominating games, he would have been a forgotten man...people should remember how often he was exposed playing for a much less talented england side...the amount of times I heard the commentator say...'and neville, he is playing them onside....goal!'

Really hope he doesnt get the job at sky. Cannot stand the bloke. He really was over rated as there was no other english right back in his generation.

Horrible news. It was bad enough to stand him a few times a season. Imagine if he became pundit and we have to face him every weekend!

*shivers*

I sincerely hope that rumour isn't true. James Cordon is a damn idiot.

I heard that! I couldn't believe what they said, he was mediocre at best.

I never liked him, yes he was insanely passionate, but that doesn't stop him from being a prick.

So let me get this time line right. We sign Torres, we then have Utd to play twice in the space of a few weeks potentially with Drogba and Torres up front, Neville retires. Bloody sh*thouse.

good one! Although Chelsea Tv tonight said the game on march 1 is no longer taking place and will have to be rearranged cos of the FA Cup...think they said we will play reading that midweek if we beat Everton of course

Its easy logic.....You are dropped from the Champions League squad...you decide to retire rather than sulking in that grief...and news say "Manu Legend retired" :D
