Our support was still pretty old school then too. I can remember some cracking atmospheres at times. Away fans in the East upper, as you say our fans nearer the pitch European nights for the first time in over 20 years and an improving team. I rarely stood in the Shed after I was 17 so the temporary stand was no problem I enjoyed it there.
April 21, 20188 yr Does anyone remember the Middlesex Cup ?. in the late 80's early 90's Bates entered us into it. I have vague recollections of seeing a picture in one of the fanzines of Damien Matthew, Graham Stuart Wise and I think Vinny Jones holding the trophy aloft. We won it in three out of four years but that beggars the question how the hell didn't we win it four out four when your up against the might of Ashford, Staines and Kingsbury Town. Did we play the kids and then the seniors in the final ? whatever it's still an embarrassing competition to enter

His face was familiar though without google would not have known he was into the natural world. He was asked what was his most scariest moment and I think his answer took them by surprise, 'I was at Stamford Bridge in 1974 (think he meant 77) and they played Millwall.' For a second everyone was lost for words and they changed the subject to another occasion when some creature took a bite out of his hand, might have been a vulture. He has Aspergers syndrome

Ian Hutchinson was against QPR, Peter Bonetti’s second was against Manure, Ron Harris’s second was against Our 1970s team. Trying to remember who had the game against the World eleven around the time of this away kit 78/81. The forwards in the squad were great, Cruyff, Best, Eusebio. Cruyff came also with New York Cosmos.

April 22, 20188 yr Found out yesterday that my old hometown team got promoted last week, and decided to take in a non-league game as some sort of celebration. Closest to me was Dunstable Town v St Ives, Evostik Premier no less. Drab and dreary 0-0, not the best pint and burger I've ever had at a ground, but decent locals, and to round it off Dunstable is where Kerry was discovered, so more of a pilgrimage really. Carshalton Athletic next Saturday hopefully, for the promotion party.

I went to Carshalton for the first time a couple of weeks ago, Dulwich Hamlet have been kicked out their ground by developers and are sharing at Tooting & MItcham but their pitch has taken a bashing so Carshaltons plastic pitch was used. Its a lovely ground massive covered terrace along one side.

Yes, it's a great ground too, looks like they're going down though. Despite the rivalry between the two clubs DH are very grateful to T&MU for what they've done. Great bars in the ground which is handy as everything in Mitcham has closed down, and the food there is great too, jerk chicken, curry sauce chips, etc. DH look like finishing second unless Billericay f**k up and that'll mean play off(s) in front of big crowds there.

That's the division that the Robins are back in next season, you'd never feel out of place wearing a Chelsea badge at the Memorial Ground mate. If I still lived where I grew up in Carshalton then Tooting's stadium would be my nearest. I was in the last road of Carshalton, bordered by Morden and Mitcham and could be down at the old training ground in under 5 minutes, ruined my education that. April 22, 20188 yr Quote Mind you, the fact that the clubhouse was full of Chelsea supporters in red shirts and that their other side had just come from 2-0 down to beat Southampton might have helped their mood, too. Just read this report from last week's game at Carshalton.

I'll try and nip over- shame about Dog Kennel Lane- there's very few London non league clubs playing in their original grounds left because they're just too vulnerable to property development. Lots of old Chelsea boys as mentioned at both Tooting and Mitcham, and Carshalton. Ps Terrible shame what that knob Dipre's done to the Robins

I was 11 and it was packed that night, more than the Scousers the year before in the cup. I’ve spoken to people before about this and reckon on the 50,000 mark, programs ran out that night as well. The modern day Moscow game!
April 22, 20188 yr The gypsies from the east did come in numbers round by the bovril. They did smash some old Oaps and kids. We were all on the whitewall waiting for em, they always loved coming up the stairs. Anyway by the time we got over to the bovril the 14 year olds had already ran the gypsies out....they knew were we were and did not want it..

Ps Terrible shame what that knob Dipre's done to the Robins Used to watch the Robins all the time, sponsored players etc., as you say loads of old Chels there. Remember a pre-season there a few years back against Millwall. Sat there with a couple of mates before kick off and loads of Millwall walked in, some of their youth quite vocal as presumably Carshalton were a non league outfit. I was in shorts with CFC tat on right calf, not a word from any of them. Was great there, even in the dodgy days with Graham Roberts as manager and Keith Dublin as captain. But then Dipre took over and not long after banned a few people I knew over a fabricated incident and it all went toxic. Not been there for over five years now. Shame as only ten minutes walk from home Edited April 22, 20188 yr by Shug

You probably bumped into me and my brothers there. We lived in Peterborough Rd. A short walk across Poulters Park and we were at the NAAFI ground. The nicest player I met, out of all of 'em, was Dennis Brown
