Great report above mate. Mid 1960s judging by the players ?

Just checked it was played in 1965.

Thanks mate. Yes, played on 11 August. A crowd of 36,641 at Hampden Park. Good crowd and great players on both sides. Info courtesy of Bounder Friardale. Found out about the game when browsing Follow Forum, the Rangers fan forum.

We won 1-0

Our scorer was Tony Dorigo in the 25th minute

In front of 76,369.

Not such a good game as as full members cup in 86, but still  proud to be at Wembley, we are so spoilt these days. Might be wrong but think the crowd was bigger than the league cup final crowd that year. What I'd give to go back to that time, nearly 21 and Italia 90 was just round the corner. Happy days

The replay against Leeds was the 7th most watched programme on the BBC in 1970 but as the article mentions if ITV viewing figures are included the match was the most viewed programme in that year.

I remember watching the news about the Apollo 13 mission. An incredible feat getting the crew back to Earth. Great to see that great War film, 633 Squadron in the top 10.

I believe its the most watched domestic football game ever, excluding England v Argentina 86 and England V West Germany 90. I think its about the 10th most TV programme of all time.

Think that was Wise and Townsend's debuts, missed game as flying back from Zante, remember following Tues/weds went to palace away, wisey got sent off and we lost 2-1 if memory serves me

Watched the 1990 WC in Laganas Zante on a lads holiday. Early days of bars showing football- most blokes opted to watch the tournament at home; 2 birds for every fella, superb fortnight.

After that we planned our beach holidays round the sporting calender. 92 Euros in Kos. ( loads of crumpet again) Tried similar for the Commonwealth Games but didn’t work out.

First game at the allseater Wembley. Massive ruck at half time when you could walk all the way round underneath.

Weren't there T shirts with "no fences this time" refering to play off game two years before when Boro were safe behind the fences after the pitch invasion after they sent us down.

Quite apt that that picture has two of the players showing off the FA Cup,with a  bottle of beer.

Can imagine the celebrations would have been 'quite alcoholic', shall we say...
