Leeds at Chelsea, 89?

That geezer in the tan jacket (staring at the camera),looks like the lead singer of 80's pap band Spandau Ballet..

Always knew there was something 'funny' about that lot.

Three pubs in a mile radius have shut down in Sutton mate, The Sydney(going to be flats) The Dolphin(no plans as yet) & The Angel(supposed Tesco metro)

I used to like the Angel, nice boozer back in the day. I lived in Mitcham for many years, and the amount of local pubs that have been closed down or demolished there is frightening. Used to be 29 pubs in Mitcham, only about 15 left from what I've been told.

Sadly, its the same all over, in 2006 Brighton+Hove you could choose from 900 licensed premises... today there's less than 300, or so I'm told by a Brighton season ticket holder. I see him twice a year and football always crops up when business buttoned, on each occasion a dark cloud appears over him as he claims "Chelsea destroyed my ground" (Goldstone 84)... with difficulty, I manage to leave the office and run down the stairs before pissing myself laughing!!!

Can anyone point me to 1967 Vid/pic of Chico Hamilton doing "keepy-ups" with tennis ball just after he signed? Its for a genuine cause, I've trawled Tube/BBC/Wiki without a sniff, I'd be truly grateful for any help/advice. He scored on his debut (spuds) but left after 4 further games, and widely rumoured to have "pinballed" out of Roebuck one afternoon, and why not?

Couldn't tell you how many pubs there were in Carshalton but I'm pretty sure I've been w***ered in most of 'em.

You and me both

I used to like the Butterchurn when I first left school, plus of course the St.Helier's Arms & The Rose. The Cottage Of Content was OK, as was the Fox & Hounds and most of the pubs in the Ponds area. Me and a mate got totally rat-arsed on Pernod in the Butterchurn when we were about 15 - we'd been told that if you got pissed on Pernod you'd wake up still drunk the next morning. Didn't really work, but you've got to admire us for our scientifically experimental approach to the subject.

Ten goals to absorb, seeing as we can't hit the target these days

I've been hoping that game would turn up on youtube mate, one of my favourite away trips that season, 10 goal thriller, good Chelsea support there, shame another old classic English ground gone now though.

A few of the Chelsea boys drank in the Morden Tavern too, probably went over there after training in Mitcham.

Yeah know the Morden Tavern and the other pubs you both mention, drank in all those pubs at some time or other, another chelsea pub for a while at least was the Greyhound in Streatham, used to live in morden so done most pubs around that way before ending up back in Battersea

and the York tavern where i used to meet for away games, small world.

The Butterchurn is still open bb, nice pub but you do get a few coked up scaffolders in there which puts some families off drinking in there, i havent used it for years now main reason being i've got other pubs nearer to where i live.

The Cottage & Cricketers in carshalton shut down about 20yrs ago now & are houses & a docs surgery, the high st still has the Coach & Horses, Fox & Hounds & the Woodman, nearer the station, the Railway, The Hope, The Racehorse, The Sun are all still open thankfully.

Article here on the in-famous St Helier Arms pub , now a block of flats.

Funny thing about the Arms for me is that it was my local, so when me and my generation of mates started drinking in there we already knew a lot of people in there, someone's dad or brother, people from work (mostly scaffolders funny enough), etc. Having said that nothing in the article surprises me.

The old 'Football Specials' that used to be for supporters travelling away.

That take me back my first football specials were back in the mid 70's by 81 I have stop going by specials and we use to go on the Inter City trains with the under 23 travel card you use to get 25 % off the fair or you had the 2 travel for the price of 1 .

And you could travel at your own time and stop off at diffrance places.for a drink.
