85,000 Attendance. Amazing any of those wartime cup finals ever got played when you consider the risks from the Luftwaffer, plus V1 and V2 Rockets later on.

Yes, amazing attendances given the risks. Guess that the people of the time saw going to football as well as cinema, theatre etc as a break and too take their minds of the atrocities.

Not as dangerous as might be thought, the Luftwaffe had been reduced to almost nothing by 1944 and although the threat of the V1 and V2 was a real one the strength and quality of misinformation that had found its way back to the Germans had been such a success that bombs aimed at central London were in fact falling short by many miles, the most dangerous place to live in the flying bomb days was the corridoor between South East London and Dover, so in this respect Wembley was as safe as anywhere else in the home counties. History lecture over.

Spot on MKB.  Plenty of V1 & V2 sites in Peckham and Dulwich.

A bit off subject but the website below has a map showing where bombs were dropped in London in the period 7 October 1940 to 6 June 1941. Looks like a couple of bombs landed in or near the ground.

Good go mate! I think the the one in the second row next to shearer is Terry howard? And at a guess the one between Wood and Jones is Jerry Murphy? Also thought next to Canoville was possibly Clive Wilson but i think he may of been a come a bit later?

Willie Watson is who you maybe thinking of, think he went after end 83/84. Think it might be Martin Nolan.
