Drogba Replacement

As Hazard is on his way to the bridge, i was wondering if any thinks he can fill Drogbas boots. If not we are apparently in links with Hulk. Would he be the better signing or would both be enough to replace Drogba.

well neither of them is a striker (yeah, hulk can play as a cf but hes being brought in as a winger) so i dont know what you mean by replacing drogba. do you mean his big game performance? if thats the case then ramires is drogbas replacement

There is no replacement for Drogba, simple as that.

Couldn't agree more. There's no direct replacement for a beast like Drogs. We'll have to change the way we play and start playing to the strengths of the attacking players we do have.

We're rolling with Nando for now. If we try to replace Drog with a big signing like Benzema, than Torres would get the ump and would want to leave. Roman has promised Nando we will roll with him (at least until January), so strengthening the rest of the squad makes sense right now. Lukaku, Sturridge and Hulk (If he does actually sign) can all back up FT respectably. This could also be Lukaku's year to break out. Sturridge will get his shot at some out and out striker stuff this season as well.

It's not like Fernando is a bad player or anything. Just buy players that will get the best from the way Nando plays. Like say, Eden Hazard, Hulk and Marin?

Torres is no Drogba, but I think we will change things so as to suit Torres better.

If we need someone strong then maybe we can put Hulk up front (if we get him) or else try Lukaku (if he's with us).

Too bad we never got to see Drogba and Lukaku (a more evolved version who has played more games than he has now) together against Arsenal. One Drogba was enough, but to strong lads would have made Wenger cry.

Of course, Torres (or any other striker) will never excel in the system we have played for 8 years, but with the arrival of Hazard and maybe Hulk we can finally see some sexy football again. Drogba was unplayable for sure, but ask the Chelsea defense from 07-10 or Vidic and you will find out that Torres on his day is pretty reliable in the big matches.

If torres doesnt make the cut (I think he will but..) Doumbia seems perfect for the new setup, full of pace and could really make use of hazards through balls. Be alot cheaper than Falcao too. But think we really need to give Torres a chance, and dare I say Sturridge? 13 goals ain't a bad return this season when you take into account where he played, compared to Torres..

Drogba was easily the best CF there has been imo, could create a goal from nothing, and would even track back. Legend..

Cracking header

I think we would all agree Torres issue was confidence

Right this minute he can see we are trying to build a team to suit his needs and help him score and if that doesn't give him the confidence boost he needs then I don't know what more can be done

I still believe he will come good and lead our line but as has been mentioned, no one can replace didier

Any other player in our team could leave and we'd carry on as we always have (playing style wise) but the big drog leaving will force our change of style as I've never seen a better '1up front' striker

Only player that I could see being able to replace drogba is falcoa, and don't get me wrong i appreciate that they are very different players but they also have a lot of similarities. Struggling to understand how you could even begin to think that hazard is a replacement for the drog? One is a beast of a centre forward and world class target man whilst the other is a pacy, tricky, winger/attacking forward

No one would ever argue that he wasn't a hero in that role but I for one don't want to see that reliance on a lone striker again; long punts up field (Cech the biggest culprit), no other blue shirt within 10m and hoping Drog can either hold it up or turn one-on-one. That works about 1 in 20 attempts and is horrible to watch (except when he does someone like Gallas!!). Hopefully we wont need the bus so much in future but that requires a more solid back four and midfielders playing further up and getting into space. Whether we go for RDM or Pep, we have to move in that direction.

Drogba light?

VIA The Daily Mirror - Tottenham and Chelsea are set to move for Newcastle striker Demba Ba, who has been given his own personal transfer window by a £7m release clause which can be activated from Thursday - for just two months.

Ba was playing really well as a target man before he decided to bring his mate in to steal his thunder. Would be a nice target style backup to Nando. Lukaku/Sturridge might be the same sort of thing though.

Last seasons our systems's been built around Drogba basically. We need to rebuild the system totally and listening to Torres' comments it will be built around him and his strengths.

We can't and wont replace Drogba. It is a new system and my hope is it involves more supporting players. Lampard's been the support but we need more dimensions in our game. We are very monotonous in our play. It has been successful but not very clever or beautiful in the general sense of the word.

Drogba's been a big deal here and it will affect more in our game that we can imagine.

Things we will miss from Drogba that Torres, or any other forward for that matter, will not give us:

1. The aerial power. Drogba could head the ball harder than most players can kick it.

2. The physical "brick-sh*t house" presence. As Jamie Carragher said in that Daily Mail, Drogba was so big, strong and powerful it was sometimes impossible to get the ball off him.

3. The defensive work. Don't be at all surprised if we concede more goals from set-pieces next season.

4. The hold-up play.

5. The customary "Big Game" performance.

6. The customary "Big Game" goal.

7. Arsenal sh*tting themselves at Drogba's shadow.

But apart from the aerial power, the defending, the big game performances, the goals, the cups and Arsenal do-do, what has Drogba ever done for us?
