Zola Posted June 14, 2012 Posted June 14, 2012 As Chelsea legend Didier Drogba ends his eight-year stint at Stamford Bridge, Roberto Di Matteo is in the market for a replacement striker, and Malaga’s Salomon Rondon is an option. The Venezuelan forward is hot property, with Arsenal and Newcastle also interested, but those clubs are likely to be deterred by Malaga’s £20million asking price. 22-year-old Rondon has enjoyed an impressive two years in Spain, firing 25 goals in 67 La Liga appearances, and his physical attributes would seem to make him a suitable replacement for Drogba. Chelsea scouts repeatedly watched Rondon in Venezuela’s 2-0 defeat to Chile at the weekend, and whilst the striker did little to impress in that outing, that has failed to put Di Matteo off trying to tempt him to Stamford Bridge. Hulk remains an option too for the Blues, but the player’s happiness at Portuguese champions Porto could scupper any potential deal. Indeed, the Brazilian’s agent Teodoro Fonseca has outlined that the Champions League winners could face a struggle to land his client, telling the Record, “The Blues (Chelsea) are not the only European club interested and at the moment it all depends on Porto. “The club want him to stay and we have received the offer of a new deal. If Hulk stays in Porto then there is no problem as he is happy in Porto. “He has had three years of interest from big European clubs and he still plays in Portugal.†Amongst other targets, Edinson Cavani is drawing admiring glances from Juventus as well as Manchester City, which could prove detrimental to the Blues’ hopes of landing the forward. Juventus in particular are desperate to snap up the Napoli powerhouse, after giving up on Carlos Tevez and Robin Van Persie, and are eager to make him a priority signing. All these factors considered, a move for Rondon could prove the most preferable option for Chelsea, and the Venezuelan may soon be primed for a switch to London. http://news.ladbrokes.com/en-gb/football/premier-league/chelsea-eye-malaga-striker-as-potential-replacement-for-drogba_107899.html
CunningStunt Posted June 14, 2012 Posted June 14, 2012 If he's happy to sit on the bench and wait for his chances, and we don't pay more than £10 million for him he could be a good signing.
BaneIvanovic Posted June 14, 2012 Posted June 14, 2012 Lukaku's nowhere near ready for 1st team football though. I love how the article makes it seem as if Di Matteo has a say in transfers too
CunningStunt Posted June 14, 2012 Posted June 14, 2012 Would be better off with Lukaku to be honest. Blatantly going out on loan. And he needs to too. He wouldn't even get on the bench.
big blue Posted June 14, 2012 Posted June 14, 2012 I think lukaku would have bagged 25 in 67 had he been playing regularly for the 4th best Spanish side. Sturridge would have scored more. waste of what would be over 15m.
That Boy Brandinho Posted June 14, 2012 Posted June 14, 2012 An interesting tidbit about Rondon is that his agent is Juan Mata's father.

Dont know the first thing about this lad, but this was the thought that came to mind. 25 in 67 is not hugely impressive for a team with a lot of attacking talent in Spain.
dwonder Posted June 14, 2012 Posted June 14, 2012 load of bullsh*t. if he is that hot...... we should be hearing his name linked to real madrid as they are looking for a third striker.
icecoolguy22 Posted June 14, 2012 Posted June 14, 2012 Who is he again? We are just linked to anyone and everyone right now.
That Boy Brandinho Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 Not that I'm hot about this potential transfer (I'd rather give Sturridge a chance at second chair behind Torres) but I don't get the people acting like Rondon is some anonymous player. His 2010-2011 season was pretty damn impressive, actually - 16 goals in 32 games for a 21 year old. He's big, strong, can play as a target man and has all the tools to develop into a fantastic player. Our interest in him makes sense, but I just don't see the value in paying 20 MP for him.

Adamrb Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 Does anyone think he's good enough? I can't say I've watched him enough
DaRick Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 Does anyone think he's good enough? I can't say I've watched him enough Well he's young with some scope for improvement, but I'm not convinced he's good enough to be a regular starter or anything. He is a decent all-round striker: he's strong enough, can use both feet well, is good with his head, is reasonably reliable and is one of the standouts of a relatively workmanlike Venezuelan side, but is he worth 15-20m? I dunno. If he was cheaper he might be worth a look, but bear in mind that we already have other young strikers at the club. Would he also be happy manning the bench regularly?
ace Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 Can't see us being interested at that price, especially with the rumoured Moses interest. The quoted price for Rondon is Ramires-esque money, way too much.
