So, transfer window coming up and rumours of a new striker, suddenly Torres falls apart. Coincidence?

I can't buy that theory mate. The club have gone out of their way to give him a platform, to the point where we sold our other strikers, kept Sturridge on the bench, and brought in Benitez, and he still didn't perform to an acceptable level.

Besides, if he can't take the pressure he's simply in the wrong game, and certainly at the wrong club.

Logic of football fans eh.  Your team lose 3-2 but it's the striker who takes the flack. When are people going to start to question the mediocore defence? 3 goals away from home at stoke who couldn't score for toffee in there previous games. 3 goals away from home against bottom of the table 3 days earlier. Let's have a pop at the striker though yer

There isn't a "Chelsea defenders groundhog day" thread, otherwise it would be full of people saying how poor we are at the back, but if you look in the matchday thread after the game nearly everybody has had a pop at our defending.

I don't blame Torres at all for today but it's pretty obvious he's never going to be a striker worthy of a team trying to challenge for the title and the same applies to Ba and Eto'o aswell.

That's my point

That's my point

I wouldn't boast about that.

The reason there isn't a Defenders Groundhog Day thread should be pretty obvious.

They haven't been playing like sh*t for the last 3 years.

That's questionable! I'd be intrigued to know how many times we have lost 1-0. I bet you it's a lot less times than we have 3-2

I still want to see Torres come fully good for us but I don't think it'll ever happen at this rate.

I think that Jose is going to offer Torres + Ba + Cash for Falcao come January.

To be fair, Jose post match comments were clearly aimed at Torres.

Wed be conceding less if we had a capable striker

.......and more capable defenders. And a more capable DM and.................................

What does the attack have to do with the defence?

Good attack forces the opposition to drop deeper, keep more bodies back, scared of attempting risky passes . . .

Do you honestly think Barcas defenders are that good? If they were tested as much as Chelseas defenders theyd concede twice as amny

Even in american football, a good offence affects your defence massively, and vice versa

And we'd be scoring more if we had a good defence.......

You cant possibly think our defence is a bigger problem than our strikers

Unfair to compare someone who got to start the game to someone who played the last 20 minutes, when most of that time the ball was just whacked at them from the other half of the pitch while the referee turned a blind eye to the defence jumping all over them.

Ba should have had a penalty, had it been awarded as it should have been I think you'd be singing a different tune, had Shawcross not barged into him there is a good chance he would have scored and again, I doubt you'd be so critical.

I don't understand why Torres IS starting every game. If he's fit, he basically starts every game. He was woeful on Wednesday and he was woeful today, so why didn't Ba get a start? Ba has actually been fairly decent the past couple of times he's come on and scored a good goal the other day. Yeah he was lacklustre today but he played the last half hour and wasn't getting much service. I would bet 50 quid Torres starts our midweek CL game.

Go on then. Put your money where your mouth is

Why is that so hard to believe? We score more than enough goals to win games.

Yeah because our strikers are a complete non-factor so our midfielders have to flood the box. Not to mention the defenders who also have to share the burden of providing goals.

Most of the time we have to throw the kitchen sink at our opponents because our strikers cant score

I don't even know what to say to this. Let's just agree to disagree

Don't think the defence is that awful, we just seem to become really shaky when we play shi* teams. Torres is a lost cause but I'll back him until he leaves the club.

Torres doesn't.

Our strikers don't not just Torres.

Regarding defenders being effected by our strikers, had we put the game to bed when were on top in the first half and Torres actually had ran onto one of the two balls Hazard played which were good passes if our striker was actually making a run than it would ease pressure on the rest of the squad.

Simple as that, when you have a striker putting away your chances there is less pressure on midfielders to take shots from distance or get inside the box loosing the ball and having to quickly get back when we loose possession.

Also you have to keep in mind that confidence breeds confidence - not having confidence in our strikers makes midfielders and defenders make wrong decision, instead of just getting the ball to a the striker and letting him get on with his job.

You mean the 2 over hit passes that went out of play? Jesus christ man how are you blaming him for that
