So, transfer window coming up and rumours of a new striker, suddenly Torres falls apart. Coincidence?

If Torres was only struggling around the time of transfer windows, I'd be able to deal with it.

Unfortunately, he's infuriatingly sh*t 99% of the time.

Three years of this rubbish, what a waste of time, money and everybody's nerves. I used to get angry about it, now I just take it as a given.

f**k him. Just get rid.

You mean the 2 over hit passes that went out of play? Jesus christ man how are you blaming him for that

Overhit?

Go re-watch the situation if Torres hadn't stopped his run in the first situation he would have gotten to that pass as usual he decided to shy away and stop his run ensuring he doesn't end up with an easy chance to score.

The second one he got too so obviously it didn't go out of play he just isn't as fast as Lukaku and ended up being closed down by a defender.

Blaming Hazard because Torres decides he can't be bothered running

How come in three years Fernando is yet to find the right pass to get to the end of? Managers come and go, so do players around him, and yet three years later he's still not in sync with the rest of our attacking players.

He's been our starting striker for eons now, played much more than any other, and yet he still looks lost. I can understand about giving him a few months, even a season. But it's been THREE YEARS.

Look at Schurrle today. Hasn't played in a while, scored two brilliant goals, and he didn't need a perfect assist to do it, either. Can you see Torres doing that?

I don't remember the second one but the first one torres was holding his run otherwise he would of been offside.

Yeah we need a new striker for sure but it's just getting tiresome now really.

It's not just Torres or our strikers though; I'm just... kind of concerned about our team on the whole really. Why is our squad worth so much yet we have so many underlying problems? Surely with our resources (Abramovichs' and the like) available we should be a lot more balanced? Right? We'll need another striker, 2 or so central midfielders, and now apparently a CB + LB?! And we're just overloaded in our AMs.

Are we going to spend yet another 100m+ to fix our squad? :\

Lets just wait and see how Van Ginkel looks once hes back and how Chalobah progresses. We just might need just 1 CM to start alongside Rami with Van Ginkel, Lampard and Chalobah being squad players next year.

As far as strikers go, getting Torres, Ba and Etoo off our books would offset the cost of a new striker significantly. Not to mention Rooney and Lewandowski actually being cheap options.

If Jose decides Courtois is gonna be our first choice keeper then we could get 15-20M from the sale of Cech.

Some of our AMs will leave, Cole, Essien and/or Mikel

We could end up transforming our squad significantly for 'just' 50M

Torres was absolutely sh*t today, suprisingly Ba managed to be slightly worse and Etoo looked like he thought he was playing for Stoke playing the worst of the three. Yes our defense isnt good enough, yes CM should be a priority but my God our strikers are just not good enough for a top half side.

At least they are team players though, could be worse. Could be like that prick Suarez whos scoring for fun but is mostly concerned about himself.

Anyone else notice Torres cracking jokes with Jermaine Pennant at the final whistle today? And I thought he actually gave a sh*t.

I thought he had made it clear he only cares when he is on the pitch

^I wonder what clauses he has in his contract because he always sounds certain he is not moving anywhere till his contract expires. Jose must cop some of the flak though because he chose to go with this set of forwards. Laughed at the beginning of the season when some fans on here had Torres scoring 20 goals in all comps, have him at 10 and reviewing those numbers weekly.

Yeah fair enough we'll see.

I'm just thinking if we bought Cavani or Falcao then we'd be top. How many chances have there been that we've failed to convert? That someone like those two would finish off?

The phrase 'Torres is back' has been thrown around a lot over the last three years, and before he got injured he was actually playing quite well, truth be told. but now i think the phrase is apt again. Torres is back.

So, transfer window coming up and rumours of a new striker, suddenly Torres falls apart. Coincidence?

There might just be something in that. "Torres is sh*t" is not an excuse for me. If he was sh*t, he wouldn't have been able to terrorize the City and Spurs defenders whilst making it look a walk in the park. People can come up with hundreds of different explanations and excuses for him, but in my opinion, nobody really knows what on earth goes on in his mind and I don't think we ever will. Why he is not playing well has nothing to do with his ability as a footballer, and I genuinely believe that. People always complain about him not making the right runs, yet when he's on fire, he never stops running and always gets on the end of things. Therefore he KNOWS how to make the right runs, so what's stopping him? We will never know.

Fernando Torres is the most puzzling case in world football.

Logic of football fans eh.  Your team lose 3-2 but it's the striker who takes the flack. When are people going to start to question the mediocore defence? 3 goals away from home at stoke who couldn't score for toffee in there previous games. 3 goals away from home against bottom of the table 3 days earlier. Let's have a pop at the striker though yer

We've been sh*t at defending set pieces lately, but if we had a proper striker that scored some f**king goals we wouldn't be getting caught exposed on the counter like we did for Stoke's 2nd and 3rd goals, because we wouldn't need to be throwing our whole team forward to compensate for a useless forward.

And i'd still prefer either Ba or Eto'o to start over Torres.

With a half decent striker the game should have been over by half time, Stoke demoralised and we could have stroked the ball around. While we are unable to kill the game off, the opposition are always going to be up for it .

Worryingly, Jose has said he doesn't know how he can get our forwards scoring. I'm hoping that means an overhaul of the forward line.

I agree that there's a mental problem, but I disagree that he's terrorised anyone in a Chelsea shirt. Suarez terrorises people, RVP, Rooney, Aguero. Even Lukaku and Sturridge. Not only that they do it on a weekly basis. They score they assist they win games. Torres has never done that. He plays half-decent and everyone overhypes it for 2 reasons. One because he has set the bar so low and two because we all want him to do well (and three because some people on here worship the ground he walks on). The truth is, against Spurs for example, he played well for half an hour, though never looked like scoring. City was probably his best game in a Chelsea shirt. He scored the winner and created the other, great, it's what great strikers do all the time. He rouses himself every now and then and has a good game, he's done that ever since he joined us, but even I have the odd good round of golf sometimes, that doesn't make me a good player.

Not that I play golf. I'm just giving an example.

Spot on.

Take ManUnited last season. They were far from great, which is why their current struggles are no surprise. The biggest difference, apart from Fergie still in charge, was a certain Dutch striker, who in the first half of the season seemingly couldn't stop scoring.Even in games, where they looked far from convincing or just plain rubbish, his goals got them points on the board they otherwise didn't deserve. That's what top quality goalscorer does for his team, and this confidence going into every game rubs off of everyone.

The opposite of that is what we've got. Does anybody really think Torres strikes fear into any of the opposition we face? Even worse, his teammates have no faith in him, even if publicly they show their support. Would you after three years of what we've witnessed?

Fernando Torres may be a nice enough person and a good teammate, who works hard in training and chases the ball diligently in games, but that's not why he was bought.

I agree with all this. I watched a lot of Liverpool games while he played for them, and he was an absolute beast. He was unstoppable. He'd pick up injuries but he'd come back and pick up where he left off, taking the p**s out of defences and banging in goal after goal after goal, match after match. He was a force to be reckoned with.

He has never been that in a Chelsea shirt. I've seen him put in some truly decent shifts, and some top notch performances, but he's been with us for three years now, and the number of world class performances he has given, I can count on one hand.

I think he's obviously a lovely guy and no one can say he doesn't have the footballing ability from what we have already seen in the past but the thing is, something is not right with him. We may never know what it is but it's 50 million pounds spent and three years down the line. Personally I think we should cash in on him now and try and get Falcao or another top striker. I'd wish him the best of luck wherever he goes.
