I liked Torres' performance last night, off the ball he was always giving the Arsenal defence pressure which made them rush more. On the ball? Well, can't really comment beacuse he didn't get enough touches. I know it's easy to hate him, especially if you bring stats into it, but he looks a much better player under Mourinho. A lot better than Eto'o and Ba.

Giroud/Torres provided a strong case against Arsenal/Chelsea's title hopes- Aguero nails Giroud's one on one volley, and Suarez nails Torres' shot on the turn. That's how a good striker patches over the rest of the performance.

Giroud's was a real chance, but Torres's was only a half chance from 20 yards really, left footed.

I agree, but i'm not comparing the two. The difference in form and quality between City and Liverpool's strikers means that they would likely have taken those two chances, regardless of difficulty. That's what's going to make the difference come May.

Saw so many say Torres was crap last night against le arse. No matter that he won 7 of 11 aerial battles up front, more than any other player on the pitch. In straight comparison Giroud won 3 out of 10. Torres worked his ass off yesterday. I can imagine he did everything Jose asked him to do, we didn't really go out there to grab 3 points rather than let's take the chance when we get it but a point is alrighty.

Good performance from him yesterday.

By his standards, it was a good performance.

If we knew three years ago this is what would be considered good, Roman would be 50m richer now.

Shane Long and Grant Holt can do the same thing and do it as well, if not better. We don't need a hard worker upfront, we need a world class striker, who scores goals regularly and even creates his own chances when the support is lacking. We never had that with Fernando, and never will.

when we paid 50million pound for torres i thought great, he's an amazingly talented player and we will surely win trophies with his help, and we did.

so lets pay 130million pound for suarez and win the league, the league cup, the fa cup, the champions league and the fifa club world cup in 2015 lol

Would they really, no-one can know that, I'd bet my favourite Christmas present that you put either of those 2 in the Chelsea team & they'd be the worst players you've ever seen in a blue shirt!

Playing well for West Brom or Norwich is not the same as playing well for Chelsea, we have evidence of this with Ba, he looked a world beater for the barcodes, but the step up has made him look very average!

You're missing the point. I never said those two were great players. I referred to Soulo's stat on how many aerial battles Torres won in the match. There are many strikers out there (including the aforementioned two), that win aerial battles, press the opposing backline and work their socks off harassing the opponents when chasing the ball. All those things are commendable, but they don't make a great striker. What separates a great striker from the rest is his ability to score goals. No matter what the circumstances, the opposition, the weather, the atmosphere, the presence or lack of support, more often than not, top class striker will find a way to put the ball in the net. They have different styles and different strengths, but quality goalscorers are at a premium because they make a difference due to their exceptional ability, a piece of skill, if you will.

What would of been really interesting, would of been if we had signed Torres when the Dippers did, would he have had the same Stellar impact, would we of been able to manage his injuries any better and, maintain the absurdly gifted striker he once was??

We had Drogba and Lampard at their peak at that time, if we signed Torres he might have ended up being loaned; played out of position and ultimately moved on without achieving the heights he did at L'Pool.

The Drogba/Lampard partnership was awesome but it was also a freak, never before has there been such a potent striker/midfielder partnership. We've been so lucky to witness it,

Exactly people like to say how Sheva flopped was mainly due to his inability to dislodge Drogba but in truth Sheva was successful behind another striker a position at the time Lampard was actually accustom to move into when we transitioned in attack. Thus Sheva was marooned on the wing and couldn't cope leading the line on his own - his main downfall was Lamps; not only he was as effective as any striker we could have signed at the time but he was also a physical freak of nature playing non stop without any major injuries.

For example Anelka was able to adapt because he was able to play as a wide forward or alone(when Drogba was injured).

Lets say Torres was signed for 25 million pounds from Madrid. I reckon we would have made him an impact sub player using his pace off the bench to run at tired defenses. I don't think he was good enough to dislodge Drogba and might have had a stint at the club similar to Anelka living in Drogba's shadow and playing up top only when Drogba is injured.

The truth is that only a club like Liverpool were able to bring the best out of Torres because FSW was happy to play counter attacking football and rely on Torres pace. They went on to sign up other strikers because Torres ongoing physical problems but Keane; Kuyt and probably a list of others either ended up being used wide or flopped.

To Liverpool's credit, they have this uncanny ability to turn decent strikers into brilliant strikers. I had never even heard of Luis Suarez before they signed him. To be honest, I hadn't really seen much of Torres before they signed him, either. I'd watched him a little at Atletico and thought he was quite good, but nothing like how brilliant he was at Liverpool. I have also noticed that strikers that are world class at Liverpool leave the club, go elsewhere and turn to s**t. It happened with Michael Owen, it happened with Robbie Fowler, it's happened with Torres. It might well happen with Suarez should he leave. You never know, but that's just my two cents. Maybe they just have a knack with their forwards.

For whatever reason, Drogba aside, we just haven't fared well with forwards for a long time. Maybe it's tactics, our style of play, man management, I have no idea. But the fact is, Torres has worked under five different managers since he's been here and has not been able to replicate the scintillating form that made him such hot property at Anfield. Even were we to cut our losses and sell him in January, we're not to know how well he'd do at his next club. It matters very little, but I was making an observation. We seem to be relying on our midfielders, and even defenders, for goals at the moment, and whilst it's nice to be getting goals somehow, how long can we keep doing this for? 1-0 scrappy wins is playing a dangerous game.

Wouldn't agree with you on the first part, Fernando Torres at Madrid was touted as the next big thing and it was a surprise for Liverpool to get him at the time. He was Spains equivalent to Wayne Rooney. Suarez was also unstoppable in the dutch league, Liverpool have the knack for ruining their key forwards over the years but they have the knack for getting them while they are young and turning them into stars.

We just buy them when they are all washed up.

Andy Carroll; Keane; Kuyt; Bellamy; Ngog; Voronin; etc     (pretty sure I'm missing someone)

Forgot Morientes, Dark Kuyt was a success in a different position - the fullback striker which Rafa devised for him so Gerrard wouldn't have any defensive duties.

57% think Liverpool will win tomorrow.

What is this f**kery?

Liverpool fans always vote in droves on there and Teamtalk so I wouldn't pay too much attention.

Anyway I prefer us to be written off means the pressures on Liverpool.
