David Luiz, Good enough?

Featured Replies

while we are getting some great results and the team is playing really well, i still feel david luiz is just not up to standard, today for instance defoe's goal was completely his fault, instead of attacking the ball he stood there looking at the ball like a fool staring at a snot, and this is not the only occasion i cant recall what matches it was but he has done this twice this season that i can remember right now.

i think he is to weak and while jt is out he offers decent cover, but i really think cahill is a lot stronger and should keep the center back spot as soon as jt is back, any one think the same or otherwise?

He's improved since he first got here, but he still does have 1 or 2 big mistakes in him per match, which when playing at the highest level isn't good enough.

I hope he cuts them out of his game and settles down, because he's got great potential. Plus I'm not sure who else out there we could sign really, there aren't really that many world class CBs around at the moment (that would be realistic targets).

Did you sneak the laptop upstairs whilst your mum and dad were looking the other way? Can you hear mummy coming up the stairs? Quick turn it off!

i agree, he does have great potential i wouldn't sign any one do i would play cahill wll before luiz he is to much of a liability, i would put luiz on against smaller teams and hope he does improve because those mistakes he makes will end up costing us dearly

I think you are being extremely harsh for no reason. Since monaco he has been very good. He hasn't had 1 or 2 big mistakes every match, and we have a lot of clean sheets with him making good interceptions and tackles. Dunno why you've singled him out.

Luiz is a top top player. Sometimes people can be way too critical, he went from the portugese league to the premiership half way through the season. No wonder he needed some bedding in time. its a different CLASS of football. He reads the play superbly and makes some fantastic tackles, we are a better team with him than without him thats for sure, i'm sure if you started showing every goal we concede and assign a defender to blame you could share it around equally between all our defenders, some people are easier scape goats than others.

,

if we let him go i can tell you where he will leave for, 3 teams - Man City, Real Madrid, Barcelona.

You can just imagine this twat writing this with a big grin on his face can't you.

Then returning to his favourite porn website for his 6th w**k of the night in his locked bedroom and returning to the forum immediately after to see who what comments he has managed to accumulate from his earlier trolling.

Very sad.

The problem with David Luiz is the exact same problem with Torres or Mikel. People exaggerate his mistakes to the nth degree while the same mistakes made by other players fly under the radar.

I think he is a good defender just not in the JT style people seem to think of when you think of a good Chelsea CB. He is faster and more agile than strong. Once he has a couple more years experience he will be worth putting in the back.

His commitment to our club since he joined is unquestionable, to liken him to a fool is VERY direspectful and something I would'nt expect from a true Chelsea fan.

God knows how you would of described some of our previous defenders in years gone by ?

Luiz is a good defender, but to become a great one he has to cut out the stupid mistakes. Yesterday he had a bad game, but it was just one game and can happen to anyone (even JT has had them).

He is getting better and is still young. With the help from JT he might become a world class defender one day.

i am not calling him a fool or putting his commitment in doubt, i simply said he stood there like a foo,l didn't say he was one, and yes i am pretty harsh with players because i simply expect the best out of the best to play for us and dont think luiz is, one he makes far to many mistakes and two hes attacking ways do me absolute head in, he goes up and doesn't come back down and leaves a gap there that usually mikel has to cover, that may work in spain or maybe italy but not in england.

I kind of agree with dublinblue on this one. Take for instance his unbelievably stupid foul at the start of the second half, where he just ran right into the back of the Tottenham player for no reason, giving them a free kick in a dangerous area, which led directly to their first goal, which clearly changed the tenor of the match. Thankfully, we were able to turn the tide.

Also, when Luiz allowed the ball to drop from a long free kick, which almost allowed Defoe to get to it, was a fairly dumb play by a CB, and his look to Ashley like he had no clue did not give me much confidence.

I like Luiz, but he needs to have his head into the game for 90 minutes, not just 75 to 80 minutes.

Luiz is really hard to grasp. He can play like a world class defended throughout the game and then suddenly make a massive mistake, yesterday for example he just left the ball instead of head it away and it almost cost us a goal, luckily Cech managed to get there just in time.

Still love the geezer though and over time he will learn not to make those silly mistakes.

Luiz is a very gifted player but for me at times he plays like he's back on a beach in Brazil playing with his school mates. Center backs need to be hard in mind and body and Luiz I feel is neither. Like someone else said he has gotten better so I'd say yeah he's good enough, just.

Also I hear he's a top Geezer.

I find the constant criticism of Luiz slightly irksome if I am honest.

I saw him decsribed on football365 as a 'walking mistake' in his first season in the Premiership today- very harsh in my opinion. I remember a world class performance against City in his first season which was as good a display as I have seen from a central defender for a good few years. He was everywhere, cleaning up, intercepting, his positional play and reading of the game was faultless and he showed genuine determination and desire to weigh in with a goal as well.

He is capable of moments of madness, we know this. I am satisfied that they are happenng less though and everyone makes mistakes however due to his reputation it seems his are highlighted more than any others.

He reminds me of a Carvalho type of defender, a little risky at times but has the attributes to bring so much to the team from defence.

On top of that I just really like his style. He seems genuinely passionate about Chelsea and their fans and I like that in a player.

definitely good enough

yeah he can have lapses in concentration and sometimes tries to do to much instead of just hoofing it to row z, but i feel both of those faults are starting to fade.

against Tottenham when we were 2-1 down there were a couple of dangerous situations in our box where 90% of CBs would just kick the ball out of play yet he somehow managed to find a teammate in an attacking position which i found very important

the only error he made yesterday was that ball that he let through to cech that defoe almost picked up, but still, cech was always first to get there. so you can say he plays dangerously but i think he makes up for it

Good points, McLuvin, and I agree completely with your comment about him being a lot like Carvalho, who also was a bit risky at times. But again, I look back to his body block from behind on that Tottenham player in the first minute in the 2nd half, and I just cannot find any excuse for such a crazy action.

Uh, Lane, see above for another clear error on the part of Luiz.
