I don't see how Goalkeepers need to adapt to a league, unlike strikers and other outfield players. Goalkeepers are Goalkeepers, they save shots, no matter what league they play in. There are levels, though, and Courtois is right now at the highest level in world football.

People say this because DeGea struggled early on, completely disregarding that he struggled with the exact same things in Spain. He was very up and down for Atletico and needed a ton of work on his aerial presence and box command. The two are hardly comparable.

There is something he can do though and that's not sign a new contract so he walks for little to nothing and we lose about 20-30 million on a world class player.

That's why it's an issue.....

True, it's all about the correct management of the situation. One thing Mourinho does best is management of people.

That's also true, but I see the benefit in keeping cech if we can. Strangely his injury could turn out to be a help for us as no club will buybhim until he's fit probably. Meaning we could have him as back up until January anyway, also means he can help courtois settle in too.

That is the ideal scenario, and i'd like to think that maybe, just maybe Petr wont just up sticks (excuse the pun) and leave us.

After all he doesn't have a bad life, and will still get games, even as number 2 ?

What im trying to get across is selling Cech would be a mistake. Putting all our eggs in the Courtois basket is a big risk no matter how well he played in other leagues. He hasnt played a single game in our league yet.

Also currently we dont have a number 2 keeper.

I do kind of agree but we don't have any option either.

Cech is still one of the best GK's in the world so there is no way he's going to be our #2 for the whole season.

On other hand Courtois who is possibly the best GK in the world right now and is just 22 years old and have just 2 years remaining we can't loan him for other season. None of them want to be #2 or a league cup GK.

So one has to go since Courtois is 10 years younger and is better than Cech it's a no brainer to sell Cech.

O please. He's not even the best goalkeeper at Chelsea.

In your opinion.

There are plenty who think Courtois is the more complete GK already..

It's not so much about adapting to a different league, as developing an understanding with the defence. There needs to be a mutual feeling of trust and understanding between the keeper and the players in front of him.

To give just one example, defenders need to know when to expect the keeper to come for the ball, or to stay on his line. Then there's the question of positioning at corners, free kicks etc,

How often have you heard it said of a goalkeeper: "he's an excellent shot-stopper but... "? And very often that "but" is to do with the keeper's distribution, postitioning, decision making, and the understanding, or lack thereof between himseld and the defence.

There are plenty who think Courtois is the more complete GK already..

Which is a silly statement to make.

Which is a silly statement to make.

How so?

You need to understand others see things differently to yourself, it's all about opinions.

Carry on syaing people are 'silly' ect then no one will take you seriously.

How many more times am I supposed to say it?

Then a month later people give the blanket claim that he is best in the world.

What's the point? I must back it up every time I say it but you can call him the best and most complete without question.

Cech half carried this club to a CL title, stats have actually been getting better season by season (despite constant accusations of decline) and still got the golden glove in the prem and a cl semi final despite an unbalanced squad. And he has been at that level for nearly a decade.

Can't help but feel a lot of people judge Cortouis on gifs and hilight videos.

I don't think it's that unreasonable. I actually agree with you that Cech edges it (for now), but after the past two seasons I don't think it's silly to think that Courtois is one of the world's best goalkeepers. Neuer hasn't had his most solid season and Buffon and Casillas are clearly in decline. After that, who is there? De Gea? Sirigu? Hart? Muslera? Lloris? Handanovic? Howard? Begovic? All excellent players, but I don't know if I would consider them world class.

I do really hope that we haven't seen the last of Cech just yet; Lampard, Cole and Luiz have already left, Mikel may well be next... how many club heroes can we afford to lose at once? That said, I do accept that as legendary a goalkeeper as he is, at some point Petr will have to make way.

One of, sure. The absolute or 'more complete', no.

Holds little sway these days it seems. I like your Mikel inclusion, no one will find fault with that :P

Handanovic is the best goalkeeper in the world. 2 seasons ago Inter would've been fighting relegation if it wasn't for him. De Gea is certainly up there as at top-class player (close to world class) as well although like Courtois needs to improve on parts of his game.

We get it Stim, you want to keep Cech!

But I can't help feel it's that kind of short-sightedness that would cost us hugely in the long-term.

Cech has been a great keeper, IS still a great keeper but for how much longer (especially with the shoulder injury which could have a major impact)?

How many more times am I supposed to say it?

Im judging Courtois on the future in a way.

No one has any proof of anykind as it's all based on opinions. Just like Cech being the better keeper is.

Some will say Courtois has won La Liga and went to a CL final while Cech won sod all.

Others will say Cech's done all that for years so is the better.

It all depends on the individual.

Yeah you are right. But he seemed pretty firm that Courtois was the best keeper in the world. I wanted to know if he had anything to back a statement like that up.

Just like Stim on the other side.

I think we all realise no one really knows the only way to tell is get both them in, let them slug it out pre season and see who comes out on top.

Only fair way about this that I can think of.

Courtois is currently the best GK in the world admit it or not.

Thats not how this works im afraid.

I provided a bit more than "just accept it". And have for months.

Seems the Cech side has a far higher burden of proof than the other.

(Also because he isn't the best GK in the world) ./banter
