July 31, 201411 yr 28 million? That's a pretty good deal if you ask me. So does that mean that we have actually sold just about as much as we have bought? Well that's fantastic lets see if any of those other clubs who are 'buying success' balance their books. But I guess we should just be compared with them.
July 31, 201411 yr Now we'll need another striker. With Costa, Torres and Drogba lineup we're one niggle away from being completely f**ked. City, Utd and Arsenal currently have a better striker lineup and to expect Costa to play every game in a long season is impossible. A manager as successful as Jose wouldn't repeat the mistake (of a thin striker lineup) from last season but if he does then he'll most likely be out of a job before the end of the season. People say that we almost won the league with the trio of Eto/Ba/Torres but in a league as unpredictable as the PL I don't expect us to repeat/better our record of only one loss against the top 8 in the league from last season and I'd expect other teams to modify their tactics against our bus-parking away from home.

I'm not sure about Arsenal mate, Giroud has his good moments but he has struggled in the league on many occasions, I think Costa is a step ahead of him personally and could prove it this season, depends I guess. Then again Arsenal will most likely land Balotelli so if they do then yes they will have a better striker line up. I think Cities strike force really helped them last season, as each forward came out of form another forward stepped in. You got to think worst case scenario though I agree, we play with 1 lone striker so we don't need as many strikers as City but if Costa where to be injured? Then what? We have Drogba who I think will be a big help, but not consistently. Torres... Well that's just pointless, the only reason he is staying is because we can't get rid of him and now that Lukaku is gone it could be worrying.

July 31, 201411 yr Disappointed in Lukaku more than anything. The business was good, it's always nice landing a big profit on a player that's hardly played, but I would have preferred him to stay and fight for a spot. He would have got his chances this year, as we play a lot of games year in year out. It's his own fault though really. Had he stayed last year he would have ended up our number one striker, but instead he jumped ship when things got a little tough. I like Everton though, so I hope he does well for them, and I hope he gets them to a top 4 spot over the likes of United, Liverpool and Arsenal.
July 31, 201411 yr I see Jose is talking sh*t again. You're the one talking sh*t. I think it's been clear Lukaku hasn't had the mentality for a fight here.
July 31, 201411 yr Right move for the player and the club with the right fee being payed imo. This is probably the perfectly post so far. Excellently put. Edited July 31, 201411 yr by dkw

Arsenal? With giroud and sanogo? That arsenal?
July 31, 201411 yr Let's go for Rooney, he's homegrown... Do we have any serious homegrown options available? Absolutely not! I'd rather take a dip in the Calumet Sag Channel (anyone that lives in the south suburbs of Chicago knows what I'm talking about, that thing is nasty) than have him come to Chelsea.

I think Cities strike force really helped them last season, as each forward came out of form another forward stepped in. Pellegrini has tasted success in his debut season and they'll be mighty when they sort out their over-dependence on Kompany. It'll be real tight this season but I worry that we'll fall behind eventually if we don't add another striker.
July 31, 201411 yr To all Lukaku fans: if you think we missed out on a young world class talent, how come no top club was interested in him? I've read rumors of Wolfsburg making inquiries and being scared away by the fee CFC were demanding. That's it. The whole world has watched him for the last few years and yet only Everton made a bid. Why? United - RVP and Rooney City - Aguero, Dzeko, Negredo, Jovetic PSG - Ibra and Cavani Bayern - Lewandowski, Muller, Gotze Barca - Messi, Suarez, Neymar Juventus - Llorente, Tevez, Morata Pool and Arse would have wanted him if we'd let him go there i'm sure, Atletico would have taken him if they hadn't already gotten Mandzukic. The only other big clubs that could afford him and needed a striker (Pool and Arse) wanted him. He'll be at a bigger club in the next 3-4 years if Everton don't improve, maybe United will pick him up when RVP goes. Silly mistake. Edited July 31, 201411 yr by Jonty
July 31, 201411 yr I cant see any way they would have given Schwarzer a new contract if he wasn't going to feature nor can I , despite the obvious attraction, see us keeping two top quality keepers. Of course we need a strong keeper back up but the overall squad demand and the fact that we could further add to the war chest and make FFP that little bit earlier for future monitoring periods for me is of paramount importance So I cant help but feel of the keepers will leave & it will be either Cech or Courtois not Schwarzer . I someow doubt that until Jose has had a good look at Courtois. he will know himself which will leave. Its not all about ability attitude other things like temperament age, attitude all have a part to play I agree both Marin & Mikel will leave and I guess Torres will leave if we get lucky.
July 31, 201411 yr Maybe Lukaku will become a better player now. He has got a good relationship with Martinez, Lukaku should excel there. There was no longer a desire to wait for Jose to use him.

He isn't in the same class as the players you mentioned, that's why no top club was interested. Can he improve and become a top class striker? Of course. But he needs a serious attitude adjustment if he wants to ever be the first choice striker in a top club.
July 31, 201411 yr Lukaku might have agreed with Everton right at the end of last season. At least it appeared to me in his interview. Under Martinez he was happy & he will get better soon.
July 31, 201411 yr Adios Romelu. Go and be a big fish in a small pond, score 15 goals a season at a club that won't ever win anything, except maybe if they get lucky in the League Cup. This kid's attitude was the antithesis of everything Mourinho is trying to instil at Chelsea and is not the sort of mentality expected of truly classy players. There's a fine line between supreme confidence in your ability (aka Drogba, Ronaldo, Ibrahimovic) and downright delusions of grandeur (aka Bendtner, Taarabt, Mido). Sadly, Lukaku in his current state falls in to the latter category. He had three decent seasons at Anderlecht, West Brom and Everton, granted, but he also played eight games for us under AVB, scored none, assisted none and sulked his way in to a loan deal rather than try and compete with an obviously impotent Torres. Add to that the fact that he couldn't keep his gob shut and Mourinho has done the best thing for the club in selling him for more than he's worth. His career could now go either way - there are plenty of young attackers who show lots of promise yet fail to deliver or improve. But the one thing I will say is that perhaps Mourinho should have kept quiet about the reasons he was sold, as now he'll be itching to score against us even more so every time we play Everton. Time will tell. If he does do well though and ends up moving to a bigger club, I doubt he'd be first choice if you look at what else the top clubs in Europe already have at their disposal. I'm just glad he didn't end up at Liverpool though!
July 31, 201411 yr He simply didn't have the belly for the fight to be no 1 at a big club. I honestly don't thiunk he will amount to anything special because his attitude stinks.
July 31, 201411 yr Lukaku's career has to go up. Under the guidance of Martinez this young and talented player will get better. I wouldn't be too surprised to see him scoring close to 20 goals in the next season. He certainly has the potential to do it.
July 31, 201411 yr Sounds like you should go and cream over him on a Everton forum or something since all you do is slag Jose and praise the players who leave.....
July 31, 201411 yr Quite the contrary. I don't think it's necessary to ridicule Lukaku. The kid didn't get along with Jose & left.
July 31, 201411 yr He isn't in the same class as the players you mentioned, that's why no top club was interested. Can he improve and become a top class striker? Of course. But he needs a serious attitude adjustment if he wants to ever be the first choice striker in a top club. Why would a club that has 2-3 top class strikers already want to buy another top class striker, especially if they have deficiencies in other areas of the field?
July 31, 201411 yr He left because he wanted to be first choice and Moutinho said as much also he didn't exactly slag him off he even said he liked him. He just pointed out that he doesn't have the mentality right now to make it here. I swear Pete, you have it in for Mourinho so much how can you even cal yourself a Chelsea fan when you don't like our most successful manager who absolutely loves this club and it's fans.
July 31, 201411 yr f**k it. He doesn't have enough balls to compete with other strikers to gain the spot. And he thinks he's good enough to start for Chelsea. BULLsh*t. Rename this thread or delete it.
