Chelsea v Spurs (PL) 08/05/2013 KO 19:45

Win it and we're in the Champions League next season.

Lose it and we're 3rd, level on points with BOTH Arsenal and Spurs.

After today's win it's importance has gone down a touch but still one of the biggest games of the season.

C'MON YOU BLUES

Hopefully Hazard is back for this one and the the trio of Mata, Hazard and Oscar can torment the Spurs defence as they did at the start if the season.

Actually looking forward to this one after today.

y*ds biggest game of the season due to our result today.

How amazing would it be if Frank got the only goal of the game...

In the 93rd minute...

If Carlsberg did dreams...

Ooh, don't know if I can agree - my "Carlsberg" would be 10-0 by half time to avoid any stress - 93rd minute would be scary!  With Frank to score two to get the record and Petr Cech getting at least one.

Forget the Europa League Final, although that is also important at this stage, THIS is our Munich.

Absolutely must show up for this, we all know it and the players should damn well know it.

Victory here essentially books our place in the Champion's League and leaves us open to concentrate on the Europa Final.

Drawing here means that we need to be on our guard and secure 3 points against Villa to book our place.

Defeat here, against the Spuds, in our own backyard, in these circumstances? Not an option. Cast aside any respect or sentiment for AvB... crush Spuds and consign them to the Europa League again.

             Cech

Azpi - Ivan - Terry - Cole

       Lampard - Luiz

Oscar - Mata - Hazard

               Torres

Let's f**king do this.

3-0 Chelsea

Lampard is going to break the record here, like Drogba's winner was written in the stars... It's going to happen.

The best thing about today is that lot had pinned their seasons hopes on United doing them a favour today. Years of bending over backwards to help United in title races against Arsenal/Chelsea and United didn't even return the favour? Funny really.

Irrespective of all the baggage re: CL it was always going to be a big game, definitely one of the biggest of the season for me.

It's in Benitez's own interests to take this game seriously. A win on Wednesday kill off any realistic possibility of Spurs catching us thus guaranteeing CL Football. That will mean that key players can be rested against Villa which gives Benitez a better chance of winning the Europa League and enhancing his CV. Fans win, players win and he wins. Everybody's a winner. If we score early it could be anything because Spurs will have to throw everything at us to get an equaliser which will be perfect for Hazard, Mata and Oscar.

There's also the small matter of doing the double over Spurs (a first since 2006, a long time coming) and preserving a proud 23 year unbeaten record against them at home.

No Dembele for them and no Lennon either + bang out of form and running on empty. There for the taking IMO.

Cole at Center Back?

I'd bring jt back for this one at the expense of luiz who would move into dm. I think benitez will bring him back for ivan though and it will be jt and luiz at centre back. Now comes the tricky decision for me. Lampard and luiz is the best combination but ramires has impressed me lately.  Tough decision to make but I'd probably go with luiz and lampard. Then the next big decision to make is upfront, I'd go with ba but I have a feeling benitez still sees torres as the main man and his excuse for bringing him back in will be his rotation as I can't see torres playing at villa due to the europa final the wednesday after. Can anyone really see benitez leaving torres on the bench 3 games in a row?

Huge match, our 2013 Munich, so the whole club needs to be up for this. Need to build on the Manure result, anything other than a win will devalue Sundays great result.

Keep the Faith

No it won't! Offer me a draw now and I'd bite your hand off!

I have a feeling Frankie will score a hat-trick going to put 50pence on down the bookies :good2::laugh2::blush2:

Wed will be v close, I reckon. I can't call it - we are not firing on all cylinders and Chelsea weren't much of a threat to Utd today. Both sides will be up for it on Wed. The main difference between how each team will approach the game is in the fact that, for us, a top four finish is now the only game in town.

I would not expect Hazard, Mata and Oscar to all start this one, even if Hazard is fit.

Can see Ramires on the right of the 3, maybe Moses, with the job of following Bale where ever he may go, much like the man marking job Essien once did on Gerrard.

Cech

Azpi, Cahill, JT, Cole

Luiz, Lamps

Ramires, Hazard/Mata, Moses

Torres.

What I expect Rafa to go with on Wednesday.

This is now a must not lose game. I think we are in the drivers seat after todays great result and if we avoid defeat here I believe we will make it. A win and we are home and dry.

This is possibly our biggest game of the season (yes, arguably bigger than the EL final) and I will be so happy/relieved if we win it. Still hoping that Arsenal drop points just for Thfc's sake though and they finish 4th!

This game really could go either way though, and if we don't win it, we have two very tough games coming up afterwards and would be in real danger of slipping to 5th.

You are a gentleman and a scholar. Thanks.

Wigan may get something from them but Newcastle..well Newcastle 0-6 Liverpool...

But Spurs deserve a crack at the CL after last season and the fact Arsenal are bloo*y useless in it so offer England no chance of winning the trophy so would be better if Spurs got that spot.

Indeed. I would prefer spurs get CL than Le Arse.

They did pretty well with old arry. Wengers gone out at the last 16 twice in a row now and I would love the prospect of a Chelsea v Spurs European night.

Yep. The Gooners and Wenger are stuck in this odd pattern of working v hard to get into the CL, then - in the new season - putting all their efforts into a rubbish CL campaign, at the expense of doing anything domestically other than qualifying for the next year's CL. Defo

why van Persie left; didn't want to look back on his career and say 'yep, we sure did qualify for the CL lots'.

For me, Torres offers far more than Ba going forward. Vertonghen reads the game well and Dawson is good in the air so can't see Ba troubling them. Torres is a lot more mobile and his runs could cause their CB's problems.

I'd start with this team:

Cech, Azpi, Terry, Luiz, Cole, Ramires, Lampard, Mata, Oscar, Hazard, Torres.

Lampard over Mikel simply because we need somebody with a good range of forward passing in that midfield, if Luiz doesn't play there then Lampard has to IMO. Ivanovic was excellent today though.

I think it will be similar line up as yesterday, having Hazard back would be great, but Moses did a decent job yesterday. This is the sort of match JT needs to play, I feel a lot more comfortable with Luiz beside him. I doubt Mikel will play anytime soon, judging by the last substituion yesterday. The movement and pace of Defoe and Bale will be a bit too much for Mikel. I wouldnt mind Cahill/JT in defence, and Luiz in the midfield to counter Bale.
