I worry a little for Mata under Mourinho. He isn't a wide player like Hazard and he isn't a tenacious deep lying playmaker like Oscar (will be). I can't see a position in Jose's line-up that he could take.

Afaik, Özil always plays the number 10.

Depends, if he continues to utilize 4-2-3-1 like he does in Madrid then Mata will play number 10, if he goes back to Porto and Chelsea formation, 4-1-2-2-1, he will play him on the wing. Remember, AVB often used that exact formation and Mata played left winger, he maybe was not as effective as he is behind the striker but he played well.

Mou is reactionary though, if you have a player that is just that good, he'll build the team around them.

I don't know why so many are buying the whole Jose will set out to ruin our most creative players canard.

 

I guess some buy into the anti-Jose sentiment being propagated by certain sections of the media more than others. I think it's bosh, personally.

Jose's always got the best out of players and as we know Mata and Jose are both intelligent human beings and they'll have a common goal. I really don't see a problem here.

Jose's always loved his DM's and that area we are going to strenghten. That is cover for Mata and the creative ones to have freedom and for the backline. Key to Jose's game always.

No idea where you got that from, he always plays as a number 10 unless one of Ronaldo and Di Maria are out.
