A trequarista-type forward

Featured Replies

After looking at all of the threads on strikers we've been linked with, most of them seem to be power-based players like Benteke and Cavani. Why would we ever need another powerhouse forward when we have one of the best prospects in Lukaku? What we really need to do is sell Ba and maybe even Torres, and bring in someone like Stevan Jovetic or Luis Muriel. These players could then also play alongside Lukaku as their styles compliment each other. Also I'd rate Lukaku at around the same level as those two so it would provide healthy competition without damaging his confidence. To give you an idea of how they play, Muriel seems to me to look just like Agüero did at Atletico, an agile and quick forward with good finishing. Jovetic, who you've probably all seen, looks kinda like Suarez, but less crazy. Bringing in these two or even just one of them, along with De Rossi would, in my opinion, not only strengthen the squad, but get the best out of the youngsters coming through and give us a great chance of the BPL title next year.

Any thoughts on why these shouldn't/should be considered, other than the old- Jose's just gonna recreate a carbon copy of the old Chelsea 4-3-3 squad blah blah etc.

I agree with this, Muriel and Jovetic are two excellent young prospects, and i'd love to have the option of a power forward in lukaku or a quick-footed forwards like Muriel. they could also be played side by side in a two up front formation

I have no idea what a trequarista-type forward is, but it sounds delightful. I'm going to learn how to say it without stuttering, whilst looking knowledgable.

After you've learned it don't forget to mention it in every sentence.

To be fair it is my favourite Manic street Preachers song....

I remember a time when the classic proud number 9 roamed are lands and other lands free and fruitfull. Kinsman, vieri, vanbastan, shearer, linker, big les, Ian Wright, Robbie Fowler, Andy Cole, Dwight York, rvn, inzagi, shevchenko.. list could go on. All varying degrees of ability and style but all new that their primary job was to get in the box and get goals.. and by the way most of them in their prime better then what we currenetly have.

Now we have the new fads of terquater freshly squeezed with a side of lemon scampi.

has it really come to this, are we actually are the point where there are only 3 or 4 number 9s good enough for us, in the world..

Messi is a freak people and amazing freak, but trying to recreate with sub standered options is not going to work. We are hardly short of creative players. We need some knew to put the fear of g-d in to deffenders, some one who will bust a gut to get on the end of things in the box and has the attributes to do so..

Torres is not this, ba not sure, have high hopes of lukaku

The day false number 9 emerged was the day football was permanently broken for me. I shed tears of woe at the loss....

Funnily enough, one of the players with a fantastic goal scoring record at club and international level has just moved for an initial fee of £12m

Like you described he is basically an "old fashioned number 9" whose first thought was to get in the box and score goals, the less touches to score the goal, the better, which is what I personally think we need.

His name is Mario Gomez.

This isn't the craziest idea in the world, if Roberto Baggio was still playing, I'd be crying for us to sign him every day...

Yeah but that's because Baggio was the boss.

Who wouldn't have wanted Baggio?

You big Jessie!    :laugh2:

After you've learnt how to say it, maybe you and the original poster can get together at evening classes to learn how to spell it.

Oh the odd spelling mistake is but a drop in the ocean of mistakes (spelling and otherwise) on these forums. You're going to have to tough it out, Kev!

Doesn't it just mean three-quarter?  Is this the football poncey equivalent of asking for a latte instead of a milky coffee?
