June 4, 201412 yr I am now confused. This was such a good story yesterday. Now it's a just a rumour again. Welcome to the silly season. None of these paper monkeys know jack. They are flinging feces at the wall hoping for some of it to stick so they can claim they "broke the story". And if it doesnt come in to fruition, they make sure they had some get of jail card in their sleeve like "Like we reported the wage demands became too high" or like in this case "Cesc didnt want to play for Mourinho" or "they couldnt get Koke and Pogba so they panicked and settled for Cesc". Its ridiculous. Edited June 4, 201412 yr by Xfaxtor
June 4, 201412 yr This rumour heated because he was in London for that advertisement. But still I think we should sign him!
June 4, 201412 yr Chelsea and Barca have very different styles of play and therefore playing in the 'pivot' is different in both teams . I feel that here he won't be necessarily playing in the pivot but just staying deep and spraying the passes as we have Matic who is responsible for the defensive work and has more physical presence that Busquets for example. This doesn't mean that Fabregas will be exempt from all defensive work, but we don't need another Matic we need somebody more creative. As for the rumours that Mourinho doesn't want him, I read somewhere yesterday that Fabregas isn't Mourinho's first choice yet he still likes him. This isn't surprising as I reckon Pogba and Koke are the main targets yet their clubs are likely to demand unrealistic amounts of money for them.
June 4, 201412 yr I am now confused. This was such a good story yesterday. Now it's a just a rumour again. This is the "Chelsea Rumours" thread, baby. It's a helluva roller-coaster ride!
June 4, 201412 yr Come on you know Jose he called it a sterile system and most of the attacking players were Barca, Fabregas playing false 9 Iniesta, Xavi and Pedro. The man who coached them was the Special One in Spain DelBosque and Jose was always going to get digs in. So yep he mocked how Spain played at that time in 2012. Did he mock it? Is this the punditry you are referring to pete? He comments that Spain looked more dynamic in attack once Torres was introduced which from my memory, they were... because they had a focal point for their attacks and looked more threatening attack wise following the introduction of a traditional striker. Not exactly scathing criticism of Spain, just an observation which many would have noticed.
June 4, 201412 yr Forevercarefree As I said he called it sterile and as the then Real Madrid manager who had been engaged in silly mindgames with Guardiola and Villanova all season and with all the attacking players from Barca it was clear it was more silly fun and games. Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho has slammed Spain's "sterile" striker-less formation following their 1-1 draw with Italy in the opening game of Group C at Euro 2012.Vicente del Bosque chose to overlook Fernando Torres, Alvaro Negredo and Fernando Llorente in order to play 6 midfielders in a 4-3-3 formation. And the Portuguese boss has hit out at the Spain manager's tactical approach, insisting it damaged Spain's potency."It's not good to keep on passing between Xavi, Iniesta and Fabregas without creating a big threat on Buffon's goal," he told Al Jazeera. "Yes there was a big effort from Spanish midfielders but without a striker the team was sterile." Also good to see he is a big fan of Torres and maybe the reason why he chose to loan out Lukaku this season
June 4, 201412 yr I don't see anything wrong with Joses comments, of course a team is going to looke 'sterile' when not playing with a striker. I doubt Fabregas is losing sleep over it LOL

I doubt Fabregas is losing sleep over it LOL I don't see it as a dig at fabregas more mocking the Spanish/barca way of using a false 9. Fabregas would come here if we pay him it has been shown with lots of other players Cole, Torres etc. Footballers on the whole will choose the best wages anad a chance to win stuff everytime. But I still would be very shocked if Jose wanted him but also excited as he is a very very good player and could offer more in attacking sense than the likes of Willian, Salah, Schurrle etc.

Also good to see he is a big fan of Torres and maybe the reason why he chose to loan out Lukaku this season I'm really not sure how it can be seen that he was "slamming" or "hitting out" at Spain/Del Bosque, that's just media sensationalism. He was providing an opinion as pundit. The point being made that retaining possession is fine but you still have to provide an attacking threat with the possession, In the context of the game he was pundit for, he was right, Spain looked toothless in attack without a focal point to trouble the Italy defense... After they introduced a striker they were putting their possession to good use by creating decent chances for the striker. Some games a false 9 will work, others it wont... In this game it didn't and both Mourinho and Del Bosque acknowledged that.

June 4, 201412 yr http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/jun/04/jose-mourinho-not-convinced-cesc-fabregas-chelsea-barcelona? It is Jamie Jackson mind
June 4, 201412 yr Forevercarefree We will have to agree to disagree they later won the the final with the same system against the same team ie using the false 9 Fabregas against italy. They were 2-0 up without the introduction of Torres and when he came on he scored the 3rd and they won 4-0. If Benitez or Guardiola was a commentator on Chelsea v one of our games and applied similar comments I would apply the same rationale. In some instances a person can never be impartial. Just to add I heard JT will be on ITV and I am a bit uneasy about him doing that also for similar reasons.
June 4, 201412 yr How would you have described Spain's performance against Italy? They won the tournament and they conceded 1 goal in the whole tournament. with a record of 12-1. I think they did okay I guess.
June 4, 201412 yr They won the tournament and they conceded 1 goal in the whole tournament. with a record of 12-1. I think they did okay I guess. But their performance in that 1-1 draw with Italy, which is what JM was commenting on.
June 4, 201412 yr I think anyone with half a footballing brain said the same thing as Jose did about Spains inept performance against Italy.
June 4, 201412 yr But their performance in that 1-1 draw with Italy, which is what JM was commenting on. See above.
June 4, 201412 yr Tancredi BOOOOOM!!!!! @tancredipalmeri Chelsea have reached an agreement in principle with Fabregas. Their offer was higher than Manchester United one. Still no bid to the club
June 4, 201412 yr If we've agreed terms with Fabregas but not actually bid... isn't that tapping up? Or have Barcelone given a verbal go-ahead for him to speak to clubs before anything official is done? Weird.
June 4, 201412 yr If we've agreed terms with Fabregas but not actually bid... isn't that tapping up? Or have Barcelone given a verbal go-ahead for him to speak to clubs before anything official is done? Weird. I think that guy just makes things up as he goes along. I'm 100% sure we have not contacted Barcelona or Fabregas as of yet.
June 4, 201412 yr Also Cesc could break his leg at the world cup and then that would rule out any kind of move. I would think Barca are keen to move him on as soon as possible. That's an odd way of thinking. A footballer can get injured in any game, World Cup or not. I'm sure Jose is fully aware of what Fabregas as a player can add to the side so if he wants him and the fee is acceptable we should snap him up asap.
June 4, 201412 yr Reports (Spainish media) are saying that he has passed a medical at Chelsea. Sounds like theres definitely something going on. There's too many rumours for there not to be.
