Going by your reasoning we will still need someone to partner Matic (we have freed up about £400k/w in wages), considering Mourinho touted him as his "10" don't see him changing his mind after a season. Can't see the board sanctioning a deal for Thiago; he was unremarkable last time out, doesn't fit with our policy, would have been cheaper to keep Lamps (sign on bonus included). Song from Barca won't be a bad move if we need someone deeper, he can play CM+ DM & qualifies as HG.

Was thinking about this when the Fabregas rumour first surfaced. I think that he probably edges Mata in almost every aspect of the game especially in defending and he's a lot stronger on the ball.

Mata is way ahead on likeability.

Can't us spending 30m on a player to replace Oscar unless we are selling him. I think fabregas will play next to matic, which is a position he played a lot for with arsenal, usually next to song/flamini/diaby with the nasri/rosicky/hleb playing further forward.

He can definitely play in the number 10 and has done at stages throughout his career, but he came through at Arsenal as a centre mid, and I think he is better player from deep.

Here's his assist in his arsenal days, and the 2 types of assist that stick out for me, are the set pieces, and the through balls from deep, or against deep defences.

I think we'd play more of a 4-3-3, with Fabregas filling the Lampard role from Jose Mk I, and having license to go forward, Matic sitting in and Ramires working between the two ala Essien or Tiago Mk I.

 

Hazard, Schurrle, Willian, Salah and say Piazon as the attacking midfield, with Fabregas, Matic, Ramires, Tiago and Van Ginkel as the midfield. 

 

I actually think I'd prefer to keep Mikel instead of Tiago, he's better cover if Matic gets injured.

 

big blue I think we will be selling Oscar, that's the thing. Use the WC to put up his price and then sell him off. I don't think he's got the mentality or physicality to be a top class player consistently in England. His best performances for mine have come on the continent, he'd be a star in Italy though, that's where he would be closest to fulfilling his potential.

Cesc Fabregas will move to Chelsea, according to talkSPORT's Spanish football expert Graham Hunter.

 

The Barcelona midfielder is reportedly set to leave La Liga and a return to the Premier League is on the cards, with the Blues believed to be his most likely destination as they seek to replace Frank Lampard.

 

Asked by the Sports Bar to give a one-word answer on where Fabregas would end up, Hunter said: "Chelsea."

 

He then added: "Barcelona are off the record confirming that there’s an agreement on price with Chelsea. I have to admit I do not know what Fabregas would think of working for Jose Mourinho though.

 

"There were times when Mourinho was with [Real] Madrid that Fabregas was - although articulate - very critical of Mourinho’s behaviour. That can change, huge wages can make you work for different people."

 

However, Hunter did add that Bayern Munich could scupper any chance of a deal if the German giants manage to sell Bastian Schweinsteiger.

 

"The reason Barcelona want to sell Fabregas is they want to spend €60million on buying Koke out of his clause at Atletico Madrid.

 

"But Pep Guardiola does wants to move Schweinsteiger on. He feels Schweinsteiger doesn’t move the ball quickly enough for the brand of football he’s trying to implicate [at Bayern].

 

"If Schweinsteiger gets sold then maybe there will be a bid for Fabregas but if you ask me where he will end up, I think he will end up at Chelsea."

 


Either the media are pushing these rumours to get views/sell papers or there is something behind this.

 

Costa and Fabregas would be a big step towards improving our side for next season. If we go further and go for a left back too, then surely we will be favourites next year for the Prem.

Yes he does, and considering Real paid €30m for Isco & £34m for Illaramendi can't see Koke going for under €45m.

 

45 million euros is 36 million pounds which is about the same as Barca want for Cesc...

I’d not lose too much sleep if we were to use the WC to flog Oscar tbh.

He’s a talented and exciting player but he looks to have gone right off the boil and like a few others I’m not sure English football is suited to him just in the way Spanish football isn’t suited to Fabregas. The only Issue I’d have is who would take Oscars place as I’m assuming IF we went for Fabregas he’d be used beside Matic?

I just can't see Fabregas ever joining us. There is too much bad blood.

I thought the same and deep down still do.

Then again I couldn’t see Ash ever playing for us when the story broke at that time.

Fair play to us if we can pull off a deal like this for a player who we are crying out for.

Just waiting on the horrendous DM photoshop job of Cesc in a Chelsea shirt now, at least it can't look any worse than the Rooney one did last summer.

    Guesswork is all it is. According to the Express today Chelsea close in on Cesc Fabregas after 'agreeing' personal terms

     

    Such a bold, confident headline must surely have some basis in fact, you might think? But you'd be wrong. No direct quotes, The actual text of the article tells you that the agreement is purely "According to Spanish paper Mundo Deportivo" and that "Fabregas' agent was thought to have been in discussions with a number of Premier League clubs."

     

    And that's all there is to it. Nothing more than speculation and hype, second hand bullsh*t dressed up as "news".

    Just waiting on the horrendous DM photoshop job of Cesc in a Chelsea shirt now, at least it can't look any worse than the Rooney one did last summer.

    Pretty sure I saw one on the DM earlier with him pasted onto a slidding Hazard...
