Chelsea have made an offer for Botafogo's highly-rated defender Dória, according to reports in Brazilian press.

Lancenet claims that the English Premier League club have offered 9.4 million Euros for the defender. Botafogo would receive only 4 million, while the rest would be given to the third parties that own 60% of his rights.

The offer was made through Carlos Meinberg Neto, one of Oscar's agents, and Botafogo are supposed to respond untul Friday night.

Dória has impressed at Botafogo's senior team and had previously been linked to a number of European clubs such as Porto, Benfica, Tottenham, Barcelona and Juventus.

Chelsea's squad include several Brazilians such as national team players Oscar and David Luiz, as well as Ramires, Lucas Piazon and Wallace.

Neither Botafogo nor Chelsea have confirmed Lancenet's report yet though.

Very reliable @dimarzio also reports about this transfer. He also writes that Chelsea have accelerated this deal because Luiz talks with Barcelona are hot.

 

That's a bit worrying. @dimarizo one of the bets out there, but I hope there's nothing behind these rumours (Luiz to Barcelona).

I doubt he could get a work permit much like Wallace couldn't so would need to go on loan elsewhere in Europe before playing for us, so even if we did sign him it would be in no way directly linked to any potential sale of Luiz which I highly doubt anyway.

If we cant get a work permit for Wallace then surely we wouldnt have a chance with this kid either. He wouldnt be a replacement for Luiz if he couldnt actually play for us.

Doria already has a cap for Brazil which will help him get a work permit I believe.

Will be interesting to see how he progresses compared to Marquinhos, considering how much PSG paid for him.

We don't need "something extra" from a defender. We got enough creative midfielders to play 3-7-0.

Defenders very rarely go for a price similar to attacking midfielders and forwards and I dont think we'll have much of a problem finding a good replacement at half the price.

Go on then, name me replacements for around 15-20.

And yes we do need defenders who can do more than defend in the modern game.

I personally would hate to lose Luiz.  I think he has a special career ahead of him.

Are we there again? I believe Mourinho was pretty clear about him (though it is not something set, but he seemed pretty clear about it).

I think that the club see's Luiz as the posterboy in the coming years and maybe see him as a future captain.

Luiz has those bits of attacking flair because he is not natural defender and never looked comfortable in that position. I would prefer a calming influence like a JT or Carvalho at the back. Luiz is just too chaotic for my liking.

I believe there is a whole thread that covers finding a replacement for Luiz for 20M and there are not many options that would be available.  Just naming 3 players doesn't mean we can actually buy them.

Many defenders now do a lot more than just defend, they are expected to start attacks, take the ball from the keeper and play out with it, supplement the attack against deep sitting sides, put balls behind defenders etc. You mentioned Terry who is also able to do all those things, but more amusingly you mention carvalho who played in a very similar way to luiz.

Sell Luiz for £35m and we have to spend that again to replace him. Seeing as he is the youngest of our established centre backs it makes zero sense to sell him.

You're still to name a defender who you can get for 20mil that is better than Luiz. Not trying to be a dick about it but you're yet to give us an option.

Not many ready made replacements for david luiz. Maybe Hummels but not for under 20m, then theres the french trio of mangala, zouma, and umtiti, all of which are just raw talent.

Probably best sticking with what have then reassess the situation at the end of the season, when we'l know better about terrys position.

Big fan of luiz here. Jose said no one leaving I'm sticking with that
