Pre-season performances

Featured Replies

I haven't watched any pre-season games this year, mostly because last year I watched them all and we were terrible in most of them so I assumed we'd do better if I wasn't watching.

Anywho, I'm interested to know how some of our younger players and newer players have been getting on.

How would you rate the performances of the following, so far (there are quite a few, so a simple out of ten score is fine):

- Blackman

- Wallace

- Kalas

- De Bruyne

- McEachran

- Chalobah

- Van Ginkel

- Piazon

- Essien

- Schurrle

- Lukaku

Thanks.

Blackman - Haven't seen too much of him, seems OK for his age though

Wallace - Fantastic. Pacey and got a good cross on him

Kalas - OK. Nothing special from what i've seen so far

De Bruyne - Very impressed with Kevin. He reminds me of Gerrard a bit.

McEachran - Not sure. Haven't seen him play much

Van Ginkel - Good so far. Can't really judge him yet but he had a great game vs Inter

Piazon - Good, showed some of his potential.

Essien - Looks like the Bison of old so far. Very happy we got him back.

Schurrle - Looks good. Been ill recently though.

Lukaku - The next Drog.

Lukaku- isn't good enough for Chelsea, was the worst CFC player on the pitch against Inter, (I actually prefer Toress, and I hope with get Rooney )the Asian teams he scored against aren't good enough, when faced with a better team he was found missing

Van Ginkel hasn't impressed me at all, not better than what we currently have. I do not see him benching the likes of lamps, Mikel, Essien, Ramires etc it's going to be very difficult for him to displace any of those guys

Essien: looks fit but very slow, age is creeping in

De Bruyne has been the best player for me so far during pre-season

Schurrle hasn't been better than Hazard, mata, or Moses. hopefully he comes good

Wallace: Very impressed with his play, but won't play this season

Kalas:  Way below Average

McEachran: Should be sold, he hasn't developed even with being sent on loan. The less said the better

Blackman : Hopefully he comes good, but doubt he would get a game for the 1st squad in any major competition this season

Have a word mate. Isn't good enough for chelsea? The lad is 19 years old and yes he didn't have his greatest game against inter but he still caused a bit of panic and showed signs of a top striker. Have a feeling in a few years time you will be looking back on that comment and laughing at just how ridiculous it was.

Blackman: Did fairly well, but wasn't really tested

Wallace: Very passionate and pacey. Did very well offensively but was a bit clumsy defensively at times.

Kalas: Didn't see too much of him, but didn't look too good.

De Bruyne: Very impressive. When he played he was the best player on the pitch

McEachran: Didn't play much, but looked dangerous with his passing when he was on the pitch. Not sure if he's good enough defensively though.

Chalobah: Did well when he played as a centre back, but his most impressive display was against Indonesia when being played as a defensive midfielder.

Van Ginkel: Got better from game to game. Had a really good game against Inter.

Piazon: Didn't really impress. Wasn't really involved in the games apart from the last one.

Essien: Was really impressive. Could get back to his old self.

Schurrle: Looked very one dimensional and unimaginative in his first game and improved only slightly in his second outing. I think there's still more to come.

Lukaku: Top Scorer in Pre Season so far and always looked like a handful. Didn't play too well against Inter but was unlucky when his shot hit the post

Blackman: Nothing to do

Wallace: Lots of speed and attacking prowess, typical brazilian full-back. If he gets playing time on loan, should challenge for a spot next season

Kalas: Bit shaky, but didn't really have that much to do. Has all the ability in the world, but is still very raw.

De Bruyne: Continued to show the stuff he was doing regularly in Germany. Very dangerous and inventive in the attacking zone and should feature a lot during the coming season.

McEachran: You know what you are going to get with Josh: lots of nice passing and solid positioning. I doubt that it will ever be enough for Chelsea - barring major improvement.

Chalobah: At this point is not a centre-back. Looks very good in midfield, but needs more composure and experience.

Van Ginkel: Tenacious, extra crisp passing. Should do more in the attacking third, but I'm sure that will come. Did get better in every game.

Piazon: Timid. Couple of nice moves. Needs lots of playing time against decent opposition.

Essien: After watching Essien last season in Madrid, I really thought he was done. I still have major doubts, but hoping that the Bison can play at least to 80% capacity.

Schurrle: Very direct, which gives an another option compared to the other attacking players. Wasn't really involved much and when he was almost nothing came off for him. Will improve.

Lukaku: Current nr. 1 striker. Yes, he still looks a bit lost at times, but the sheer physical presence alone is enough to strike fear to any opposing centre-back.

Really couldn't be more wrong could you?

I only caught the first half of the Inter game but Lukaku was bullying their defenders everytime the ball was sent up field, nearly everytime forced the defender to concede the throw instead of keeping possession, and set up Moses to win the penalty with a clever little backheel on the edge of the box.

I don't know what he did in the 2nd half but I thought he was pretty good in the 1st.

You've already proven your opinions on MvG are worthless when you referred to him as a Sunday league footballer, so I won't bother.

Dont think he is or ever will be the Essien of old, still he has looked good pre season but im still not sure about him.

WTF based on what?.

- Blackman - Hasn't had much to do when he's player to be honest so it's hard to say.

- Wallace - Very impressed with him going forward but not really seen what he can do defensively

- Kalas - He's looked ok, done nothing spectacular but against the teams we've played against our defenders have rarely been busy

- De Bruyne - He looks fantastic and I think he will be one of our best players this season.

- McEachran - Not seen much of him, just that one half against somebody where he looked decent. He'll be loaned out and if it's to Real Sociadad it will be a great move for him

- Chalobah - Made a couple of mistakes but overall didn't look too out of place in the team. One more season on loan will be enough to get him ready for us I believe.

- Van Ginkel - Started off a bit slow and uninspiring but looked very good in the partnership with Ramires against Inter. Looking forward to seeing more of him.

- Piazon - Not really seen much of him really, done nothing spectacular but you can tell he's quality. A loan to Spain or a prem club would do him the world of good.

- Essien - Best I've seen him in years, he's slower than he used to be of course but he could be very useful for us this season if he stays fit

- Schurrle - He's not really shown anything so far to be honest, he was unable to play against Inter so hopefully we will see more of him against AC Milan tomorrow.

- Lukaku - He looks very good, I'm so glad we haven't loaned him out. His finishing is clinical, he's powerful and has been an absolute handful for the defenders we've played against so far.

if he comes good, i will be the first to accept my rants as pure rubbish. So far i do not see Lukaku scoring week in week out and bullying defenders .

WTF based on what?.

based on the fact that he was at fault when we conceded  that goal against one of the Asian teams.

Pre season - conceading here and there is not a big deal, stop watching highlights. Games of football are normally 90+ minutes long and to actually know what's going on I suggest you watch a full match

I have watched all our Pre-season games. In fact I will be in DC next weekend to watch the Roma game fyi.

Then it might be a bigger problem then that... hmm your understanding of football is the problem. I'll try and help

A 19 year old footballer will make mistakes, the fact that said 19 year old terrorised a very decent it not great set of defenders is high praise indeed, we don't need him to be the finished article yet we need him to have potential which he more then does.

Any player just coming in to a new squad is going to take a bit of time getting to know his new team mates and learning to play with them, this normally show's up more in an attacking seance as you need to be intune with your team.

Pre-season means very very little. In 2004 we drew with oxford in pre-season away and went on to win the league and league cup double.

I hope this has helped some what

i thought we looked good against Inter but tbh i'm not that concerned about preseason, it's when we hit the end of October and forget how to win until February that gets me every season - hopefully Jose will sort this....

little kids of nowadays, you assume you know football, dude when i finished college, you weren't done with high school. Slow down. Do not get ahead of yourself because  we both post on the same forum. Get a hold of yourself. By the way how much time will you allow Lukaku to be stinking up the joint? this is his 3rd season

17 goals last season on loan if i recall correctly. Hardly stinking. In fact, when you take into account how many games he played, and the quality of the team behind him, 17 goals is a pretty damn good tally.

You know nothing.

Why is there a correlation on this forum between the Mikel fanclub and being a complete moron.

You've already proven your opinions on MvG are worthless when you referred to him as a Sunday league footballer, so I won't bother.

sorry that was me!.looked good against inter did he?.look, your clutching at straws as regards our new recruits.nothing wrong with that,as we want the best for our club.however, the only player that has caught my eye is a trialist from Burkina faso.

the rest?,'in mourhino I trust'!.not really but I will happily eat humble pie if proved wrong.

Anyone else really looking forward to the game tonight? A Chelsea v Madrid final will be awesome. I know it's only a friendly but if we win, I reckon it will give the lads a massive boost in confidence.
