December 2, 201411 yr I was being serious haha, I think Burnley are so desperate for points that they'd probably be willing to give him plenty of minutes. Cant think of many others that would put him straight in.
December 2, 201411 yr So our £11m signings best chance of regular first team football is to be sent on loan to a side currently sitting 19th in the league. It's all just a bit embarrassing really isn't it?
December 2, 201411 yr That may be the case but one injury or suspension to one of Hazard, Schurrle, Willian or Oscar and you're not left with much cover, over Remy can then play out of position on one of the wings. I don't see us weakening our squad depth in the New Year, as I say I only see Salah going out on loan if someone is coming in.... Even if, for arguments sake, it's someone like Moses returning from loan. You've also got Ramires who can play on the wing and if it came to it you could always push Azpi forward. I don't think Salah going out on-loan massively weakens us in the short-term and could be a positive in the long-term.
December 2, 201411 yr Can't deal with this "don't be so harsh on him" and "how is he expected to be good if he hasn't had any minutes" chat. Rubbish. As a previous poster said, he has been atrocious when he has played. He hasn't given mourinho anything to think about, at all, other than what team to sell him to at the next available opportunity. The gaffer said himself that Schurrle and Salah were dung in the cup match when they were given the chance, so if he cant turn it on against a lower league team and stake a claim for his place in the squad then quite frankly he isn't good enough. He has had chances, including an entire pre-season where our "big names" were resting after the world cup, and he was really sh*te then too. One footed, terrible decision making, and woeful finishing have, for me, summed his time up at Chelsea. It's nothing personal, I just don't think he is good enough and at the moment represents a waste of money. Verdict: loan or sell.

There are options but it all feels a little bit makeshift and considering we invested £11m on Salah, which isn't exactly pocket change, it just seems strange that we're apparently contemplating sending him on loan to aid his development. He's 22 already, just how much better is he realistically going to get? It's not like we are even really seeing signs of potential there. If the club are serious about moving him on, even for a loan, I think we should consider looking for options elsewhere.

If the club are serious about moving him on, even for a loan, I think we should consider looking for options elsewhere. So we shouldn't look to develop his talent? Best-case scenario is that he actually becomes a viable first-team option for us having had five months experience of the league week-in and week-out. If that doesn't happen then he may well impress some clubs and allow us to recoup some of the investment in him (which actually isn't that sizeable in the grand scheme of things). Worst-case scenario we sell him for roughly the same amount you'd expect to sell him for right now, possibly more because it would be the summer market.
December 2, 201411 yr So we shouldn't look to develop his talent? My argument is that based on his first year at the club there isn't much talent there to develop. We keep sending all these players out on loans (see Marin, Moses, Atsu, Piazon) but realistically what hopes do they have of becoming players good enough to play regular football for Chelsea? In Salah's case we've made a considerable investment in him but just one year later we would be lucky to recoup half the money we paid out for him and apparently we're already considering a loan. When was the last time a Chelsea player went out on loan (having already played for the club) and then returned to play in the first team? Not all signings work out, that's a simple truth but Chelsea, especially when it comes to attacking midfielders, have an apparent reluctance to just move them on.

Sell him now when he's at the bottom of his value? Make him into Soylent Green? He has talent and he has pace. There is something there but at the moment he simply hasn't shown enough. I'm not entirely sure where the harm is in loaning him out for a few months and seeing how he fares when he's actually playing regularly.

I'm not entirely sure where the harm is in loaning him out for a few months and seeing how he fares when he's actually playing regularly. Because as I said by loaning him you're then leaving yourself short on cover and then the only available options are players playing out of position which isn't really ideal. Me personally, I would sell him, yes. We're never going to recoup we initially spent on him but then at the same time we I really don't see him ever significantly improving and so I think we should cut our losses and either recall Moses until the end of the season to provide suitable cover, bring through someone like Broga to get occasional minutes if required or look to bring in a quality replacement.

So you don't rate him but you want to keep him as cover? There's plenty of cover without him if that's your view isn't there? You can't say that we'll never recoup what we spent on him in 6 months time. What you can say is that if you sell now you definitely won't. There's absolutely no upside to selling him now from a financial point of view.
December 2, 201411 yr Exactly. Our options right now are a) selling him at a huge loss, b) Loan him out and hope he impresses enough to increase his worth or c) keep him in the squad and give him a few mins against sh*t opposition that could rather go to one of our academy players. Personally I like option b)
December 2, 201411 yr Waste of a squad space. Ship him out as soon as possible to whoever will take him.
December 2, 201411 yr Waste of a squad space. Ship him out as soon as possible to whoever will take him. this even if we sold him for 5m, that's a 6m loss on an investment that just didn't work out. who cares, its not for us to worry about finances. The squad place which becomes freed up as a consequence is, in my opinion, easily worth that £6m loss.
December 2, 201411 yr When we signed him I thought he would be a fantastic signing, I like him but dont think he's good enough to compete with hazard, Willian, Oscar etc...
December 2, 201411 yr There arent many players that would replace Hazard Oscar and Willian. I think Salah gets a hard time on this site.
December 2, 201411 yr Waste of a squad space. Ship him out as soon as possible to whoever will take him. He's not a waste if there's no-one there to take his spot. Shipping him out straight away when you could potentially make more money on him down the line without a massive risk seems a little simple-minded.
December 2, 201411 yr He's only like 22 or 23 right? Give the guy a chance for god sake. Where is the replacement if we send him out on loan? Sign an English player for 20M?

Shipping him out straight away when you could potentially make more money on him down the line without a massive risk seems a little simple-minded. He's a waste if he's not considered an option to give Hazard or Willian a rest by starting the odd game, or an option to come off the bench in games like the Sunderland one where we desperately needed a fresh alternative. Right now aside from throwing on another striker we really have no options in terms of making changes late in games to try break down a defence.
December 2, 201411 yr He's only like 22 or 23 right? Give the guy a chance for god sake. Where is the replacement if we send him out on loan? Sign an English player for 20M? I'd much rather we actually give a chance to someone like Baker.
December 3, 201411 yr When we signed him I thought he would be a fantastic signing, I like him but dont think he's good enough to compete with hazard, Willian, Oscar etc... Nope I never thought that. I just saw this being a reactionary signing because he played two great games against us for Basel last season in the Champions League. I'm not surprised that he's struggling now.
December 3, 201411 yr I'd much rather we actually give a chance to someone like Baker. Baker doesn't play wide. He's a waste if he's not considered an option to give Hazard or Willian a rest by starting the odd game, or an option to come off the bench in games like the Sunderland one where we desperately needed a fresh alternative. Again not if there's not someone else waiting to take his spot.
December 3, 201411 yr Baker doesn't play wide. Again not if there's not someone else waiting to take his spot. He can play in the attacking 3 though. Willian, Hazard, Shurrle and Oscar can all and have all played wide. We could mix it up a bit if giving him a chance.
December 3, 201411 yr Baker doesn't play wide. Again not if there's not someone else waiting to take his spot. We'd have brought someone else in if he wasn't here though, so yes it is a waste.
December 3, 201411 yr We'd have brought someone else in if he wasn't here though, so yes it is a waste. Hindsight is 20/20.
