February 9, 201610 yr How is their no recall clause. Thats mind boggling. If we had a crisis (we are getting close) then every player should have a recall clause Tales from the Chelsea Board Room. Maybe those at the club didnt rate him and they imagined this as a Thorgan situation Edited February 9, 201610 yr by TheChelseaBlues
February 9, 201610 yr Wait a two year loan without a recall clause?! I usually give the board the benefit of the doubt, but that is borderline lunacy and a good way to leave the player without any feeling of loyalty to the club.
February 9, 201610 yr It ensures their development and that we don't panic and recall a player only for them to then waste six months sitting on the bench and hindering their development. This way the club the player is on loan to are more confident in playing them as they know the player can't suddenly be snatched away from them and their own team left worse off. Smart business if you ask me.
February 9, 201610 yr Also it gives the other club something to invest in. If they think they'll lose the player after a season at best they're more likely to not risk playing the kid.
February 9, 201610 yr I take the last two points on board but surely ultimately the owning club should still have a clause. We agree the loan and all being well it will be for two seasons BUT if we need to recall earlier for any reason, we can and then maybe come to an agreement in compensation. That would be better for all concerned as now Christensen, through no fault of his own, could see his Chelsea future disappear. IF he has to stay on loan for another season and we let JT go and Zouma is out long-term, he misses out on a real chance to establish himself here and will slip down the pecking order whilst we go and splash out millions on replacements.
February 9, 201610 yr Not including a release clause probably involves a higher loan fee. By agreeing to a two year loan we're looking to invest in our future benefits rather than worrying about shirt term ones.
February 9, 201610 yr Author Borussia Monchengladbach hope to sign Andreas Christensen from Chelsea on a permanent deal, sporting director Max Eberl has confirmed. "Our intention is to try and get into talks with Chelsea in the summer," Eberl told kicker, while confirming that the Blues have no option to recall the youngster. "Andreas fulfils everything we've seen in him. And we are delighted that we were able to take him on loan without any ifs and buts." Christensen himself said he is open to staying at Gladbach beyond the end of the current deal. "I am very happy," he told reporters. "I will give it my best in the two years here, and see what the future has in store for me. It's of no use to return [to Chelsea] if I don't get any playing time there. A lot can happen." Schubert praised the defender as a "super centre-back" and "just a good footballer," adding that he hopes he has a long-term future at the club. "I would welcome it if he were to stay here for a long time," he said. http://www.espnfc.co.uk/story/2803452/monchengladbach-want-permanent-deal-for-andreas-christensen
February 9, 201610 yr ^^^ All sounds good. Would still prefer it if we had him back here to be an option to play next season and learn under JT (which IF he stays will more than likely be his last season). As long as we don't f**k it up like we have done with so many of the other youngsters in the past.
February 9, 201610 yr Fingers crossed we don't muck this up. At least Andreas has his head on straight. He knows he needs to be playing, I hope it's with us in the future Edited February 9, 201610 yr by TheChelseaBlues
February 9, 201610 yr Not including a release clause probably involves a higher loan fee. By agreeing to a two year loan we're looking to invest in our future benefits rather than worrying about shirt term ones. But what if the player develops faster than projected or we have an injury crisis at the club? Surely then you want the flexibility to decide when to bring them back. Conversely there's the chance that they're not playing as much as they could be in another situation and you want to give them that chance, or even the possibility of their club being relegated. Now maybe there are break clauses based on those factors, but surely you want to allow yourself the greatest flexibility possible.
February 9, 201610 yr Surely if you own the player outright, and you recall him early and the loan deal is not adhered to, you would be subject to a financial penalty somewhere along the line. But nothing can stop us recalling him.

Now maybe there are break clauses based on those factors, but surely you want to allow yourself the greatest flexibility possible. I'd assume a break clause and a recall clause are very different things. I assume when loaning a player for two years you do it with an agreement that they play X percentage of games when fit. With our large number of players out on loan we obviously have to manage those agreements to the greatest benefit to ourselves and I'm Chritensen's case I think the "threat" of not having his loan ended prematurely is, long term, the most beneficial. Especially when you consider that we also have other central defenders on loan, on shorter term deals. We also have quite a lot of cover within our first team squad and current academy players too.

But nothing can stop us recalling him. I assume a loan agreement is very much binding. If you borrow £1000 from a bank over two years, the bank cannot after 18 months demand the return of all of the money.
February 9, 201610 yr We could always mutually terminate if we needed too. Both parties obviously have to consent and I sure if we want Christensen back and ask nicely enough it will be mutual but there is only a point doing this is he will be a first team regular and there is no point terminating the loan if he isn't going to play, Edited February 9, 201610 yr by PedroMendez
February 9, 201610 yr Even if he would play I see no reason to bring him back this season. We're talking about next season.
February 9, 201610 yr I think I read somewhere that it was Christensen that wanted the two year deal in return for signing a new contract.
February 9, 201610 yr We're talking about next season. And Im talking about this season, where we currently have only 2 CBs who have played a minute in England
March 18, 201610 yr Scored his 3rd goal of the season tonight v Schalke. David Luiz-esque goal as well.
March 19, 201610 yr really well taken goalhttp://www.trollfootball.me/videos/view/christensen-goal-vs-schalke-1-1
March 21, 201610 yr Great player, ideally i'd love to see him next season partner up with Zouma but unfortunately thats not going to happen, unless we play 3 CB's in which case its a possibility i suppose
March 26, 201610 yr "He reminds me of Franz Beckenbauer — he still has work to do to reach him — in his playing style, because he's really relaxed and elegant. It almost looks like he could be playing in a suit. Yesterday [vs Iceland] he did fantastic. He went in to the game with the calmness that was needed, he was strong in duels, and anticipatory. He has the whole package, and he's humble and listens, so I am well impressed by him." "He has a fantastic football future ahead of him. Actually, he has a difficult role [on the NT team], because it probably takes even more experience than he has, but he still solves the assignment in an excellent way. He has to lay deep between Simon Kjær and Daniel Agger when we defend, and then he has to go up in midfield and be a defending midfielder, when we attack. It takes both intelligence and courage to solve it, but he solves it nicely." -Åge Hareide You tbink hes holding anything back? Cant wait for him to return Edited March 26, 201610 yr by TheChelseaBlues

March 26, 201610 yr We need 3 at least, but you're right. Bonucci seems about the right age for us to target Edited March 26, 201610 yr by TheChelseaBlues
