Filipe Luis to Chelsea... and Back Again.

It isnt strange to wonder but some people on here seem to worry over it. I like most people wouldnt mind hearing how much he cost be i dont care if we paid 25 million for him like some others on here would.

I'd like to know just for curiosity more than anything but maybe some people are worried because of FFP or maybe people are nervous after we paid £30 mil + for Shevchenko and £50 mill for Fernando Torres who were bad buys for high prices. Personally for me its not my money and if the club are willing to pay these prices to improve us then so be it.

On FFP I'm really not worried about that we've already shown how seriously we are taking it with the last windows business and us letting those go who were in huge wages and were ready to leave. It also seems likely that we're offloading some of the dead wood in order to decrease the wage bill so I think we're gonna be fine in the long run where FFP is concerned.

The final price was 15.8 million. Not bad at all. Think we will get three or four season of absolute top top class from him. Been a beast for Atletico and i think he'll fit us so well. Pretty excited, have to say.

Where have you heard that?

Agreed on him been a beast.

Chelsea paid €20m/£15.8m for Filipe Luis. Not his buyout clause. [Marca]

Very excited about this signing. Experienced player who from all reports is a heck of a footballer. This team needs more experience and it is good that it will seemingly be coming from the back. Funny also how if Costa, Luis and Courtouis start we have 3 out of the 11 starters for Atletico on our team!

I know its only 5 mill, but that makes a a pretty big difference for me, 15 million is a fair price for him considering ability and age. Hopefully we get to see him and Azpilicueta manning the FB positions this year

I'm not worried, if the fee is similar to Luke Shaw's fee then I'd rather we just went for him. It's nice to see the club doing good business that's all.

Why does 5 million of someone elses money matter to you?

If a lottery winning goes and buys a sports car does that bother you as well?

Sigh not this silly debate again. I care about how the club is run, I dont give two bob about Roman saving money.

And that analagy, wow. How are those scenarios remotely the same?

But what do you know of the inner workings at the club? Are you an accountant for CFC?

5 million might be a lot or it might be a piss in the sea for all we know.

I can understand fans wanting to know prices etc and have their own idea of what a player is worth but im willing to bet that not one memeber on this website works for Chelsea and no one here knows what our budget is each season.

Just sit back and enjoy the ride.

Also just because you dont like a post doesnt make it "silly".

Paying far over market value and not sticking with your valuation on players is not good business regardless of how well off you are financially. One doesnt have to ba an accountant for the club to realize this.

I never said the post was silly, I said this debate is silly. I kmow, because we have had it many times before and it always turns out the same way.

With that said, when you start comparing interest in the daily running of a football club with a random blokes lottery winnings it gets silly.

At leased we are buying from a side that has won a Championship, unlike that side from the NW of England that

is trying to buy players from a middle of the road side.

Not even players they need in positions that need strengthening.

You are correct on one thing. This does always end the same way. I explain that the club has its own people who take care of business so we dont have to. You dont really get this and thats where it ends until the next time.

Also just because you dont understand the analogy between the two examples doesnt make it silly. Its ok for you to not understand btw! I didnt really want to highlight that you arent quite keeping here.

Great business, really excited about this buy. 28 years old but yes will be 29 by the time the season starts, but who cares. £16 odd million for a reliable and solid player who can realistically play at the top level for the duration of his contract. No complaints from me.

In other news, we have so far knocked £550k off our weekly wage bill by offloading Lamps, Cole, Luiz, Eto'o, Ba, Hilarious and Hutchinson. That's a total FFP cost for the year of over £34 MILLION in wages.

That figure could rise to approximately £50m per annum if we were to sell Van Aanholt, Moses, Marin, Romeu and Mikel. I think this is the concern that fans have regarding finances as we have seen the punitive measures that UEFA are prepared to implement in respect of FFP non-compliance. Freeing up some headroom within salaries will allow us to go for that higher bracket earner - this is why I believe some people on here are concerned about the cost of players and their earnings. Devils advocate.

I think its a good thing that we take an interest in the club as a whole, and that goes down to finances as well. The club is in safe hands, for every one sh*t decision the board makes, there are hundreds made on a daily basis which are for the good of the club.

Still think we need another striker and another CM if we do indeed shift Mikel. I would be absolutely f**king buzzing if we got Pogba and a Remy / Bony / similar. Long way to go in this window but i cant see us doing a huge amount of business over and above what we already have... we're nearly there.

Probably the best left back available, don't think we've paid to much. We can't just buy potential, if we want to push for trophies every season, we need to make these sort of signings every now and then.

From all accounts he is also very close to Costa, so it will hopefully help him settle.
