Following Our Nearest and Dearest Rivals, 2014-15

this one cracked me up lol:

As Wenger's unlikely to use my brilliantly evil plan, here's the formation i'd use:

Szczesny
Alexis Bellerin Chambers Mertesacker Koscielny Flamini Coquelin Hayden Gibbs
Welbeck

9-0-1 Formation

Should limit Chelsea's chances. Forget parking a bus, i'm parking a planet.

haha dont think ive ever seen such a broad defeatist attitude amongst a group of humans, its like a help group haha

You are completely right, I think it's the first time I've ever observed a group of football fans and thought 'these guys are severely lacking in hubris".

Cause you need to be from England to understand football?

Come on..."soccer" in still relatively new to the states,,they`ll still catching up to the fact`s and figures of the game...not every one is clued up

Dog,

Good point you made there. Just to add one more thing. Soccer is not new in the US. It has been around for well over 40 years.

Is everyone in England an expert on football?

Apropos nothing but the word soccer is just wrong. I especially dislike it when Rugby Union types call Rugby 'Rugby Football' and call football 'soccer'. Football pre-dates Rugby by hundreds of years and despite that they've nicked the word football. Sods.

To be fair to our friends across the pond, their national team is actually decent and they have some of the best fans in the world no doubts about that after meeting random young u.s fans around the bridge etc (only 26 cant speak for the auld farts). how many of us would spend our minimum wage money on flying across to watch Chelsea?, Huge respect!

I think what it is, is that maybe because u.s sports are very much u.s sports i.e nfl baseball etc you dont see loads of us or Europeans flocking to those sports(probably loads but you know what I mean ha) so maybe the majority just don't get it lol...also footballs often very tribal and embedded in our society everywhere you look thus people get 'battle passionate'!!

personally its the equivalent of me being obsessed with the dallas cowboys or some such its just a bit like ummmm haha..

But footballs reach has been epic and chelsea are huge now.

lets be fair too, this is football, not cricket (baseball with stumps) hehe!

And rugby-like games predate what you call football by hundreds of years.

Also as I know football is called football because it's played on foot with a ball. As opposed to the higher class who usually played games and chased balls on horseback.

That's true. There were games called football which seem to have been large fights based around a ball.

The Rugby issue seems to have arisen with William Webb-Ellis who (as is widely known) was playing football at his public school when he picked up the ball and ran with it. The sport he helped to create was called Rugby Football, after the school, but Rugby fans call their game 'football' and turn football into something they call soccer. God knows what soccer even means.

The example of Rugby fans calling Rugby 'football' comes from a chat at work yesterday.

It's not a die-in-a-ditch issue: just a bit galling!

CFC,

In Russia women are locked up in the kitchen.

Funny, but you have wrong conclusions about Russia  But, certainly, I wouldn't expect to be like in Turkey and not sure where else we could see that kind of passion from women and children only at the stadium... Portugal perhaps? Greece?

To me, it's a stupid conclusion. Many families are banned because of a few a-holes.

Sorry mate but at last UEFA have shown some balls.Racism is unacceptable in any walk of life. Eastern European sides have now for many years had paltry fines placed against them, playing this game behind closed doors sends a clear message and CSKA can have no complaints at the outcome, hopefully this will send a message to their fans and any further occurances should result in a complete ban.

Still don't see why the Bayern Munich fans couldn't attend. Surely Bayern could have been given the entire ticket allocation, all the gate receipts, burger sales etc.

They should do Fenerbahce and allow only women and children in the stadium. That was fantastic:

Wow, that's awesome. I just looked into it and apparently Fenerbahce have done this on numerous occasions in the past few years. Even the match that clinched their league title last campaign was in front of a crowd of only women and children.
