Thibaut Courtois

And Thibaut too!

Please let him go!

Please, please, please!!!!!!

Selling him won't help but if we can get a better keeper Tibo will be good as back up.

Common mate, Tibo as back up? Twice he's won Zamora trophy (golden gloves) in the la liga. He's got many years ahead of him to improve and reach his potential. If he's looking to leave, he won't be short of suitors.

Comparing Tibo with De gea is ludicrous.

Yeah

Hopefully Cortouis will reach that level soon though.

Our Management sent the wrong message by letting him walk back into the team after injury even though Begovic was doing a great job. Also he wasnt dropped after average outings, we need to let all players know that they are not indispensable and we have replacements if they are not up to the mark.

This is the same for Costa, Fabregas & Hazard. Realistically we don't have a squad which can fill these boots therefore these players take their places for granted and it really has hurt us this season.

I must have been watching a different Keeper then when Begovic was in goal for us. To me he was the epitome of average, saved the shots he should have but nothing extra special that can win you points.

It's impossible to know how he would have done with today's much improved dressing room atmosphere and field player performance. His performances were well above average compared to the rest of the team (not a difficult standard to beat), and there were multiple games when he was clearly MOTM.

I think Courtois is performing at the (much improved) level of the rest of the team, and I can't think of games when he was clearly MOTM expect maybe Man United. He also didn't look that special in the first few games before injury, but there weren't enough games to draw a conclusion.

I'd say overall their performances in isolation (as opposed to relative to the team in general) have been of comparable quality.

There is a good argument that Begovic should be given a chance to compete for the role rather than Courtois being entitled to it.

But Courtois and his father would probably throw a toddler tantrum if he had to compete for his spot considering that he wasn't even willing to compete with Cech.

Mate you've got to let this itch you can't scratch go. Begovic is a great keeper, but Courtois has the potential to be world-class and when you've got such a makeshift backline you need established players where you can get them.

Courtois rightly didn't want to come back and play second-fiddle after being established at a top European club - that's called ambition and most people understand that. He's going to be a great player for us, he's already in the top five in his position so enjoy that rather than talking about his family. I can understand why you are but at a certain point it's crass.

Not many people saying this after Tibo did this to Cech.

Yeah, i remember everyone saying Courtois should take Cech's position even before Courtois played a single game for us and when Cech was having a very good season himself.

And Cech was our go to in the carling cup(?) I think it was, then gets replaced in the semis by cortouis and then people were upset that Cech played in the final.

None of this compassion shown then.

Personally I don't think Cech was playing great in his last full season before Courtois come back from loan. To me it looked like errors was creeping in and sometimes letting in goals he should of saved.

I was one of those who said Courtois should replace Cech and even after this season I don't see any reason to think otherwise. Cech has made errors this season and selling him to Arsenal is one of the worst decisions the clubs has made.

You got to remember this season has been a complete disaster and the form of Iva and Cahill has been poor. Dave hasn't been great and the confidence can't be high. Courtois is still only young aswell.

Should never of been shown when Chelsea decided to sell Cech to one of there rivals.

Probably the only time someone actually decided to think about Cech' in this whole thing.

Shouldnt of been shown though, you don't improve your rivals. Cech gives Arsenal another 10 points. It was a diabolical decision from whoever made it.

Arsenal wouldn't give Chelsea Walcott or The Ox in exchange and there still getting the better deal lol

At that point I was against Tibo coming in to replace Cech-It is not something against Tibo but it's a case of Meritocracy, if you are out of a team due to any reason you should not be allowed to just waltz back in. Either their has to be a significant gulf in quality or the performance levels of the player you are replacing are very low.

I personally don't believe their is a huge gulf in quality between Begovic & Tibo at present (However Tibo has huge potential and could go on to become the best in the world) Begovic is the finished article and is a safe pair of hands and until he made an error we should have persisted with him. This is called healthy competition and should be the case for all our starting 11.

I brought up Courtois's father because he was basically calling the shots for Thibaut. He was the one making ultimatums to the press and to Jose. Thibaut didn't say much at the time and when he did, he merely repeated what his father said. Young people are very easily influenced by elder figures, fathers or mentors or even agents.

The elder Courtois explicitly said that alternating and competing for the first choice was unacceptable.

That's awfully insulting to Cech to say that one of the best goalkeepers of this era shouldn't even get the chance to compete for the starting position.

Given the gap in age and experience, Courtois was the one who should have needed to prove himself, not Cech.

Admittedly I'm a big Cech fan, and it'll be hard for me to ever warm to Courtois because of those expressed attitudes toward big Pete. In fact I don't mind at all that Cech plays for Arsenal because if he's happier there and was able to keep his family in London, then I'm happier too.

I hope a decade from now Thiabaut will learn firsthand how it felt to be in Cech's position.

But he wasn't making mistakes, which is something Courtois has been doing consistently for us since he returned from injury. Even before his injury at the start of the season he was making mistakes, he was sent off against Swansea for charging off his line.
