Juan Cuadrado to Chelsea .... Done!

Featured Replies

That last line makes me feel like we're watching different players. I'm not going to judge him on cameos against Villa and PSG. But in the Everton game, I thought he showed a good touch, decent movement and some serious pace.

He started the Everton game well but faded quickly and I thought he looked slow and ponderous on the ball and lacked confidence/decisiveness in key areas.

Small sample granted and I don't want to be giving off the impression I am writing him off before his Chelsea career has barely begun I'm just trying to view this as objectively as possible and to me, right now it's not quite adding up why we did this business now and not in the summer.

I'm hoping Cuadrado gets to start at the weekend because I would really like to get a proper look at him.

How many times have you seen him play for City? How well has he adapted to their style of football? How well does he play with the likes of Silva and Aguero?

Not saying he won't be a success but I won't be writing him off after 91 minutes because that would be ridiculous.

Good points but there's simply no way to know at this point. Wait until the Burnley match at least to see if he starts and gets some time alongside the players that someone like Willian has had hundreds of minutes with.

He put in some great balls, but Costa was nowhere to be seen at the end of them.

Jose ran out of patience with Schurrle as simple as that imo. A clear upgrade (at least in the club's opinion and I'm inclined to agree) was available, and we got a very good deal for Schurrle so we took it.

Now we just have to wait and see if it was the right decision. I'm just not sure why people seem so eager to put down our new signing on the basis of nothing really.

I'm not putting him down, I personally am not sure he is an upgrade on Schurrle but I think the debate about Andre has been done to death so I won't go back over old ground with that one.

What I'm unsure about mainly is why was there an apparently rush on completing this business in January, you yourself made the argument that attacking players may require longer to bed into a new league and so I'm mostly wrapping my head around the idea of letting two attackers go, to bring in one who may possibly require a transitional period of an unknown amount of time.

We're still very much in the hunt for three trophies and it seems somewhat of a gamble to bring this guy in at the expense of two others.

Apparently my early evaluation on Cuardado is being taken as me having my mind made up about him, it's not but I stand by what I said in that in three appearances to far I haven't seen anything to get particularly excited about this one and I'm not sure he's going to improve the team.

Below is my full post, not an edited version of it. to put it very simply as is consistent with everything I have written on the player, before Chelsea I had not seen much of him. What I have seen has not filled me the same sense of excitement that I had from watching robben on his debut or Zola for that matter...

My feelings on the transfer market is that due to the general inflation in January, to give you that little bit extra going in to the final leg of the season, I dont think 25 million is a low price for a squad filler, so all that being said Cuadrado can't really be a squad filler.

Do i think we could have kept Andre and Salah till the end of the season, yes, maybe even given a few more chances Andre might have improved. So the choice not to keep them for me means we where looking to land a game changer. some one to push us over the line for the title.

So far on what i have seen, the boy doesn't look like he's going to do that. Maybe next season but thats next year and there for not achieving the goal of getting us over the line this year...

But don't miss the bit i put in bold for you..."that's not to say he won't be a success this year" ... this is a clear indicate just in case it wasn't already clear that I am well aware that it's to early to make sweeping statements about a player... actually I only pretty much do that about ramires  but not the point... so please, just point out again taking the paragraph below in all it's context where I have written him of?

"Have to agree with FC here, at the moment it looks like city have done the better business out of the two of us. You buy in January to give you something extra you didn’t have before. Squad players can be picked up in the summer and promoted from the youth team.

Regarding Jose’s comments about waiting till next season to see the best of him, he said exactly the same about Mo Salah and we never saw him at all this season

So far I have seen nothing from jaun to suggest it was worth the moves we have made in Jan. That’s not to say he won’t be a success but I was secretly hoping for the second coming of robben "

So far I don't think any one has put him down, some have just expressed doubts over whether he is better then what we had. Doubts that have mostly been caviated with the fact we havn't seen much

91 minutes.

I didn't write 91 miniutes in my post... try again

Didn't say you did. 91 minutes is how long Juan Cuadrado has been on the pitch and you're judging our January business on that?

Give the guy a chance before drawing any conclusions, especially when you admit you hadn't seen much of him before he arrived. Give him a chance to play with our full-strength first team and then judge our January business.

Good luck with helping your nan with her iPad and give her a big thank you for putting up with you.

Im judging in comparison to city's who in my opinions ( we are still ok with them right? ) looks better having brought a player whos is used to the league for the run in.

Im going on a game by game basis... on that game by game basis, but also left my opinion wide open for improvement...

Must say I'm faltered by the personal attack (given i wasn't the first or even the second to express a bit of doubt about the boy) I'm guessing it's probably something to do with most of you have written since you joined being... well erm wrong, there's no need to feel bitter about it. You are a self confessed egg chaser and that's a great game as well, one I always wanted to be better at, your just not all to clued up on this one.

So you judge our player on a 'game by game' basis, yet think Bony is better business despite him not having played a game for City yet? You're free to judge players by whichever double standard you wish but personally I'm happy to give both players time to settle in.

As for the last paragraph, lighten up. It was a throwaway comment and not sure what the rugby comment is about. I actually don't recall specifically mentioning that about myself but we've already seen that you keep tabs on everything I say. If you want an autograph then I'd be happy to oblige but I'm not keen on selfies. Sorry.

How can you say 'he's played in this league so is safe to say he'll improve city'? Do you remember Fernando Torres?

Find the words safe to say in the post

All signings are gambles, but being successful in the league does reduce that gamble somewhat..

Let's put it this way. if you had to put your house on who will do better between now and the end of the season who would it be?

Both comes with risks but if I'm trying to bring the risk down I'd be it on Boney.. Again between now and the end of the season..

At no point have I said it's a sure thing. In either scenario.

A few sub appearances is far too early to make a judgement on him. The more bemusing aspect of our transfer dealings is not who we bought/sold, but that despite already having a thin squad, we managed to end the window with less players than we started with.

^ I read somewhere that our squad number is down to a club policy on quality over quantity.

I am a bit sceptical of Cuadrado but would only form an opinion after a few more appearances, I know it's been mooted that he was linked to Bayern & Barcelona but it was to play as a RB (replacing Lahm when he moves to midfield & Alves was expected to leave). Having only 4/5 players (if you include Fabregas) competing for 3 spots means we desperately need him to deliver if we are to end this season with trophies.

Spot on.

Although Salah was never good enough when called upon he was still another body and it's strange we let 2 go for 1 in given our squad wasn't that big to begin with.

Joses lack of rotation is starting to show in some players IMO, we had a weeks rest for last night but we looked the more tired team and I thinks that's down to most of them playing nearly every game.

We must be likely to keep one of Hazard, Atsu, etc in the summer to bulk us up.

You'd think we would have learned our lesson by now. Every season we have a core of about 16 players that we run into the ground, and are consequently knackered come April. Getting knocked out of the FA Cup early might actually be a help.

Salah played 30 minutes in the league for us and 77 minutes in the Champions League. We have no League Cup football after March 1st and no FA Cup football so he isn't a massive loss.

It's probably more of a rotation issue than a numbers issue to be honest.

Jose tend not to rotate unless there is injury or suspension and our first 11 ae showing signs of fatigue.

We have not seen a huge deal of Remy, Salah and Schurrle (when they were here), Luis and a few others.

Our second string would probably be

----------Cech-------

Azpi-----Zouma---Cahill----Luis

---------Ake-----Mikel-----

Ramires-------Remy---------Cuardrado

-------------Drogba---------

And that's including two defenders who are usually starters.

Sorry if you're being facetious here but I can't believe what I've just read!

not being facetious at all. Dont think he's going to be at Chelsea in the long term and I'll put money on it. I'm not saying he's a bad player I just dont think he's going to be a regular starter who we can rely on in big games. It's a decent amount of money to spend a player who imo is going to fade as his time at chelsea progresses.

Writing off a player after less than 5 games?  :laugh2:

Jesus Christ!

My opinion isn't just based upon his time at Chelsea. I've watched him quite a bit playing for Fiorentina and based upon that I'm saying its unlikely he's going to succeed at Chelsea. Simple as.
