Juan Cuadrado to Chelsea .... Done!

Featured Replies

Jose rated him per seasons

He started against Hull and played well

He started against United and had a 's shocker

He had a chance to get his place back against Swindon, he didn't play very well.

I rated him highly and wanted him to do well here.. Something clearly went on behind the scenes. Maybe he just didn't have the fight for it. But like Mata and Luiz and Andre he's gone... It's not like losing Lampard..

maybe it was to do with getting Courtois to commit, as he and de bruyne fell out over a girl. He only played 150 mins total for us. If your look how he was ignored for us, it's no suprise he was unhappy.

For me he is a better footballer than Schurrle, salah, willian, cuadrado, and perhaps even oscar. Plenty of talk that United and city are ready to spend over £30m for him, nearly double what we sold him for. Real shame if he was forced out of the club for non football reas

I've had a look at his highlights and to be honest he does look good at Wolfsburg.  However, from what i see he has much more space playing there than he would get at Chelsea.  To be honest Schurrle will look great there.  If he was at Chelsea he would not be given the freedom he has at Wolsfburg, players park the bus negating some of his best qualities.  You say that he's a better player than Willian or Cuadrado so let me ask you this.  Who out of these players is the worst dribbler?  Who has the worst close control?  Who would be worse in tight spaces?  For me, De Bruyne.  Practically all his highlights are on the counter attack where he is the second man, as a support striker.  I'd argue that nearly all our players would look better in that setup.  Willian and Cuadrado definitely would.

This doesn't mean he's not a good player, he is.  But for Chelsea i don't see him as a great fit, just like i didn't really see Schurrle as a great fit.  On top of that i don't think he has the workrate to play for Jose.

To be honest I don't think a decision on Courtois returning would have been made that early on and I would like to think Jose is above worrying about players love lives, especially when those two players regularly meet up with their national team.

There was a few rumours doing the rounds that De Bruryne wasn't 100% committed during training and that Jose didn't like how he spent his social time (too much time spent out at clubs etc).

It's all rumour either way of course but I do suspect that there was something that Jose just couldn't work with.

Like you say it is all rumours, but he has never had bad press bad press before, during, or since his departure, he comes across as a nice lad, and I've not heard any of his other coaches questioning his commitment in training. Maybe something was said regarding lukaku, because since lukaku put that transfer request in, and got loaned to Everton, de bruyne didn't play another minute in the premier league for us. Definitely a strange one though.

No point trying to figure out what really happened looking from the outside I feel. Both those lads (Lukaku and De Bruyne) seem like good kids, but at the same time highly ambitious and confident, and probably a little impatient especially with the world cup coming up. Both of them are going to go on and be really good players, and there is going to be slight regret at selling them. But for whatever reason, it didn't work out here, and I wish them both the best, but we move on.

To me it's pretty obvious.

Jose won't keep unhappy players, because they are bad for morale.

De Bruyne was bought by us and then loaned out for one and a half years. He was peeved, because he signed thinking he would play for us and obviously thinking he was good enough.

He did well on loan but when he came back he wanted guaranteed first-team football. Same with Lukaku. They were fed up and impatient. Jose let them go.

In Juan Cuadrado, Chelsea have bought a rapid attacking midfielder who has what it takes to "light up the Premier League", according to Italian football writer Paolo Menicucci.

Cuadrado moved to Chelsea from Fiorentina on transfer deadline day after five-and-half fruitful seasons in Serie A, where he was converted from an attacking wing-back to a feared wide player with the ability to bamboozle defenders with his skills and pace.

"In Florence they call him la Vespa," Menicucci, the Milan-based journalist, told premierleague.com. "In a match against Juventus in 2012 he was running up and down the wing so fast Luca Toni, the striker, said he looked like he was on a scooter."

And when asked what the 26-year-old Colombia international will bring to the Chelsea side, Menicucci highlighted his athleticism. "Speed, speed, speed," he said. "Pace, pace, pace... and a bit of creativity.

"If you compare him with Willian he does not offer as much defensively but is more creative in terms of beating an opponent and opening up space. He could be important, especially when Chelsea play at home against teams who defend, because he can open up defences with his mazy runs. Dribbling is absolutely his best quality. One against one he is almost unstoppable."

Born in Necocli, Colombia, in 1988, Cuadrado signed for Independiente Medellín in 2007 before joining Udinese two summers later. He struggled to make an impact for Udinese, failing to score in 20 appearances, but found his feet in Italy while on loan at Lecce.

Although he could not prevent the southern Italian club from being relegated, he had convinced Fiorentina to take him on loan and impressed sufficiently to earn a permanent deal with the Tuscan club. From thereon he became one of the most feared attacking midfielders in Serie A, helping Fiorentina finish fourth in each of his two full seasons for the Viola.

"This season, Vincenzo Montella, the coach, started using Cuadrado as a second forward behind Mario Gomez," Menicucci added. "Playing more as a forward was a position that worked well for him but he has to improve in front of goal to play in that role more regularly.

"He is devastating in one-on-ones against defenders, he can beat anyone with his dribbling skill and his pace, but in front of goal he needs to improve. He has a good shot but his finishing needs more work."

Defensive strengths

If Cuadrado is a replacement for the outgoing Andre Schurrle at Stamford Bridge, one would imagine that Jose Mourinho will deploy his acquisition in a wide attacking position that brought so much success in his first two seasons at Fiorentina, rather than behind Diego Costa. Cuadrado has defensive capabilities that appeal to Mourinho, explains Menicucci.

"When Cuadrado first arrived at Udinese he was deployed as an attacking wing-back," said Menicucci. "And a couple of years ago Montella also said he could probably make a really good attacking left-back or right-back, so although he has gone to Chelsea to replace Schurrle, he is different to the German. Cuadrado started out from a much deeper-lying position compared with Schurrle, who likes to get in the box more."

As to whether Cuadrado can offer on Chelsea's right flank what Eden Hazard does on the left, Menicucci highlights the differences in the two.

"Hazard is probably a more technical player, while Cuadrado has more pace," he said. "The reason Toni referred to him as la Vespa was because he is one of the fastest players in the game."

Neither does Menicucci doubt whether Cuadrado is suited to physicality of the Barclays Premier League.

"As well as being so quick he also has good strength," Menicucci said. "He is not scared of a physical contest, he can tackle well when required and although he looks very thin he is solid - deceptively so. He's not one of those lightweight players who are easily knocked off the ball.

"He is two footed, can play on either flank and has a really good touch. His trademark goal is a solo run that takes him through on goal and then a delicate lob over the 'keeper.

"He scores spectacular goals, great goals, but if there is one weakness it's the fact that he has to learn how to score easy goals. But there is no doubt that Chelsea have bought a very good player who can light up the Premier League."

The South American is expected to go straight into the Chelsea squad who travel to Aston Villa on Saturday

Even if Kevin De Bruyne is playing the best football of his career I still don't care. He may turn out to be one of the best midfielders in Europe but his attitude was absolutely rotten, therefore Mourinho does not deserve to be criticised. You simply can't keep players who aren't willing to put in a good effort and help to create a positive atmosphere, we got pretty decent money anyway

Why do people keep saying this? He was promised first team football, didn't get it and was rightfully disheartened and wanted to leave for the sake of his career. Nothing rotten about it, didn't throw a tantrum or anything of the sort.

As for his lack of effort in training, well every manager that's worked with him has commented on how hard he trains and given how ambitious he comes across there clearly isn't something adding up.

He got first team football, and didn't play well at all. I actually think he was dropped because of his lack of positional discipline in those games, he was all over the pitch, leaving gaps defensively. Mourinho obviously saw something in his game he wasn't happy with, a big offer came in, we took it.

3-4 starts and say he got first team chance? He was good against Hull in his debut but was awful against United I agree then he was dropped and hardly started 1 or 2 game after that.

The thing is he was not a Jose type of player with good workrate and defensively good. He was more of a flair and creative player and hence he didn't got much chance.

Willian for example is a complete dog turd in terms of contributing in attack but Jose keeps on starting him again and again despite no signs of improvement just because he works his arse off in terms of defense.

Any good player would be an upgrade on Willian in terms of attack but in terms of workrate no one can come even close but that thing doesn't help us in breaking down opponents.

It could be a fairly muted one where he says the minimal amount, I can still imagine him to be a bit sulky.

Would like to see the happy one in this presser but I agree it might be one where he says "i can't say because i'll get into trouble"-type of things.

I think he'd be more of a happy one if we were 10 points clear, I think its inevitable that he has been feeling the pressure a bit. He would never admit it though.
