Raheem Sterling to Chelsea

Featured Replies

Jury is out on Cuadrado still, hes hardly played.

Neither of them seem immature, greedy little arseholes though, unlike Sterling.

I'm just glad we have young guys like Zouma who act with dignity and conduct themselves in a way that is a credit to our club.

Out of interest, what specifically are you basing this criticism of Sterling on? I'm always intrigued to hear about what players are like in private from people who are close to them.

I think a young player should be grateful to a club that have looked after them and given them their chance to be in the spotlight.

Sterling has spun this out like it's about winning things but what other 20 year olds demand this after a season and a bit of first team football?

He has at least another decade in football at the top level so I don't buy that this isn't about money and if he goes to Man City like I think he will then it will say it all really.

His club have gave him first team football, CL football this season, given him breaks when he has indicated he needs rest and now he basically gave them the middle finger. Now I know because it's Liverpool many of us are loving it because of our dislike of that club but I'm nor too sure Sterling is any more likeable than Liverpool tbh.

He doesn't come across as a likeable young man at all, certainly not when you compare him to someone like Kurt.

As a player I think he has great potential but his attitude to me will see him do a Balotelli if he doesn't screw his head back on and be grateful he is a rich young man with an opportunity only few get.

I actually think someone like Mourinho could help Sterling and flourish under his man management.

So....not like Zouma at all

Left club that gave him chance. Check.

Went to a club that were better placed to compete for stuff. Check.

Man City have won 2 of the last 4 league titles.

Were you outraged when he left QPR for them? Or when Kakuta came to us? Or when any number of young lads make a step up and join us because we not only pay very well, but give them the chance to win titles.

He actually comes across as very shy, but is apparently a fairly nice young lad who loves playing football.

What?

What has Sterling ever done that even comes close to what Balotelli has done?

I know you disagree with pretty much everything I have to say so there's no point battering on about the above, we obviously just don't agree on what Sterling is about.

I'm just going to lay my cards on the table.

I think he's a fine young player with a lot of potential but he's playing in a declining side under a manager who is not really developing properly. The continual tactical changes really don't help a player who is still very young.

When it comes to his character though, I really don't understand all the stick he gets. What I will say is that we live in a society that has certain issues with how it deals with young black men (as well as working class white men). If we want to talk about media agendas that have real consequences then that's actually worth a discussion.

I think the way Sterling has been reported on in the media has been absurd at times. On the one hand we have supporters, coaches and managers concerned about player burnout amongst youngsters, then we chastise a man and give him a black mark because he is on the bench for a match in Estonia (before coming on and contributing directly to the win) and then having a short break after a busy period. Let's be honest - we'd love for Oscar to have received the same wouldn't we?

Now I'm sure some will have me down as being argumentative or actually being his biggest cheerleader when all I'm doing is trying to find the truth out about a potential target of the club I support rather than regurgitating trash from the media...a media some are quite happy to recognise bollocks in when it suits their agenda.

I actually agree with you far more often than I don't. I was simply asking for your insight into Sterling because I was genuinely interested. But we'll just have to agree to disagree.

Yeah I just meant on Sterling not everything all in. Poor wording.

is luis an immature, greedy little arsehole for wanting out of atletico? or cahill for wanting out of bolton?

I wonder whether the whole suarez 'buyout' clause incident has made players think twice about signing long term with them.

It sounds like fsg went back on a verbal agreement with suarez when arsenal bid 40m and a penny. That must harm the trust in terms of negotiations.

It's wrong for people to want to leave for bigger and better things, moving on from those that gave them a start in the working world.

That's why Zola is still doing his paper round #loyalty.

This for me.

Beggars and choosers. They can spout off about taking a tough stance to the media, but no CL next year and financially they need a boost.

They cannot let him walk for nothing.

or keep him and hope that he performs and gets them into the champions league, therefore making his stay next season worth it.

two ways of looking at it

IMO Henry wont f**k around on this one. We wont sign Sterling.

And people seem to have forgotten just how gobby Hazard was before he went to Chelsea. Drawing out that transfer saga, delibrately talking about Arsenal and Real etc.. pitting the clubs against each other. Of course he's a lovely guy now though, a hero to the club.

Haha, you really are a total prick.

Haven't read too much of this thread, but I think folk do get influenced by rumours and just general perception.

Think there was a rumour that Sterling had fathered 5 kids by the age of 20, which turned out to be totally made up, but many still think it is the case. He has also had some bad publicity with the nitrous oxide thing and what with that and him seeming a litlle cocky, people are quick to make judgments.

But he is certainly no Balotelli or Ravel Morrison.

Is what Sterling has said/done any different to what happened when we signed Eden Hazard?

Was with Lille from a young age and came through their ranks at the age of 16/17.

Aged 21 when the big boys came calling he left and got a massive pay rise too despite Lille (unlike Liverpool) being in the Champions League.

He's not even a Jody Morris...

Mud sticks, we are all happy to accept the first and most convenient source of facts as the absolute truth, never really taking the time to question what's printed and reported to us. Ignorance is really the worlds curse but thats another discussion all together.

For those calling Rahim a nasty piece of work or what ever, we are bordering on being hypocrites, and i'll tell you for why...

A few years ago i had a conversation with a colleague is who as a passing interest in football, the subject of JT was raised and he said "isn't he a bit of a c**t though"  I asked him to tell me why exactly JT is a c**t, to which he brought up the Bridge gate affair and Racism issues" I responded by pointing out that

a) Bridges ex was actually suing the paper for printing lies but it wasn't heavily reported, and to this date was not proven to be true

b) And so what, I don't think any one is in a position to cast judgment on the way some one conducts their love life.

c) Innocent by a jury of his peers and with good reason

His response, "OK fair point, but he's still a bit of a c**t though right, I mean that's the general consideration"

This people is what we are doing with Stirling, we are letting the Red hat headlines inform and influence our opinions and of that lad when in actual fact he just a talented 20 year old kid who hasn't to date maliciously hurt any one that i'm aware of. Just trying to get on with his job in a sh*ty two bit team and enjoy is youth at the same time....

that said, he goes to city and he's a mega c**t

I suppose not entirely, but Hazard just worked away and kept out of trouble, won the league and cup, player of the season a load of times, achieved things. Very high profile player and was inevitable he was going to a big club. He had the choice because he was star quality back then.

Sterling has had a couple of decent seasons but everyone can see flaws in his game, he's nowhere near that level.

Cant blame him for wanting out of Liverpool I guess, they are going nowhere fast. But turning down 100K a week (when hes not even worth it), at 20 years old seems like poor form and bit disrespectful to the bin dippers (not that I am complaining!)

But accepting is ties him to a club that prehaps he doesn't want to be at. What if comes to us for 80k a week for example?
