Raheem Sterling to Chelsea

Featured Replies

Signing Benteke and getting the best out of him would be good business if they sold Sterling in my opinion. Like I said i think they can bring in a Bolasie, Tadic or someone similar to that stature and be equally as effective as Sterling. They are just not young and english. Sturridge would be more of loss to Liverpool than Sterling is, if he was fit this season they would be up there in the top 4.

Raheem Sterling: Liverpool cancel meeting with winger

Liverpool have cancelled a planned meeting with forward Raheem Sterling on Friday, reports the Press Association.

It comes after the 20-year-old England international's agent said the winger will not sign a new contract at Anfield even if he is offered "£900,000 a week" by the club.

More to follow.

with you on 90% of this, however i doubt that he is "the" player who could elevate them. He hasnt had a huge impact this season, and he isnt that ONE player you need who can make a difference.

That said, I see your point.

I think surrounded by class, sterling is (or could be) class.

I just cannot see us being held to ransom for this boy. he's not worth the sums being quoted.

RAWK meltdown though, those dipper f**ks think that he's worth  £50m.

Christ.

I meant Suarez was the guy who could have elevated them.

Selling him when they were lucky to get him (because Liverpool can't buy players like that ready-made any more) was the signal that they weren't going to have a proper tilt at the title. When you're a 20 year old who is being tipped for the top and you're negotiating a contract that will take you up to about 26, then you aren't simply thinking about the player you are now (who has 'done nothing' or whatever Scouse pundits would say) but the player you will be.

But yeah, £50 million no chance.

Who would you rather...

Sterling or Di Maria?

I mean United have already made enquiries and have already signed the boy from Holland who's a winger so you'd think Di Maria was for the off.

Obviously PSG are the ones who are linked heavily with Di Maria but I'm just posing the question.

Sterling over Di Maria any day.

Di Maria has been a flop at Utd (despite the assist stats). Sterling is younger, better suited to the PL, years ahead of him and English to boot.

I like Di Maria but how much would he cost? Even if United accept a 50% loss, which I doubt, then he's almost the same price as you'd expect for Sterling and he'd be out highest-earning player....ever!

I'm not very good with odds what does that mean

someone stuck £50 on it.

8/1 means for every £1 bet you get £8 back. 7/4 means for every 4 bet you get 7 back, so the bookies have dropped the odds as they think there's more chance it will now happen. But in real terms so little money is bet on transfers and management moves that a decent bet will bring the odds down usually.

In order to make a profit, giving 8/1 odds means that the bookies give it a maximum of 11% chance of it happening (1 divided by (1+8)). 7/4 means they give it a maximum of 57% chance (4 divided by 4+7)). Obviously there is plenty margin for error in several ways - they can be wrong, they want to offer good odds to attract bets, and above all (as dkw says), if someone puts a big bet on they lower the odds in preparation for more big bets.

But odds being slashed that much tends to be something (even if it just makes it slightly more likely). It always happens before a transfer occurs unless it's completely out of the blue.

You're right that there's a good chance it was just a big bet. Occasionally a big bet does mean something though. Happened before the Moyes appointment and a bunch of other times.

Oh thank you and DKW for your responses I'm starting to understand it more now, I wouldn't mind having Sterling tbh he's homegrown and got lots of pace not sure about defending though

I really don't want him. He certainly wouldn't solve our RW problem. I know how good he is and his potential but like our many other wingers he also lacks end product...

And for 40m-50m w/e price it is, I'd rather go for players like Griezzmann or Reus. Even Bale although he would be considerably expensive.

I don't desperately want him to join us, but if he did it wouldn't bother me either as I think, if he's got it, Jose would be the one to make him a star player.

The thing I'm enjoying the most is a young lad making a stand.

hes solid defensively. brentan even played him as a wing back

i am starting to warm to this a little now. this could potentially be a better signing than griezmann, especially considering sterling's age. mourinho could be very good for his development as a player and he certainly will contribute a lot more than what we have on that right wing at the moment. he is far from a polished player, but who is at that age? i think for that reason he can develop well here, and he's english!

As much as I don't like Liverpool. It really does make a mockery of contracts, I do kinda agree with Carragher about how he can just take on the club like this and force a move. Having his agent makes these comments shines him in a really bad light in my opinion. Sure it's nice to see Liverpool suffer but what if he is this great player people keep saying and signs for us. Real Madrid come calling and he does the same to us, we would be outraged.

Liverpool should let him rot in the reserves and not take a transfer fee, would never happen but I would love it.

Contracts in football can be broken, as long as a third party pays enough money to tempt the owning club to sell. Nothing new there, it happens all the time, I wouldn't call it a mockery. We all have the right to switch employers for whatever reason, as long as it's handled within the law and the terms of the contract between employer and employee.

Sterling and his agent, or perhaps only his agent, seem to be turning this into a circus. Liverpool aren't being discreet either, and why so many of its former players think they have the right to diss Sterling in the media is a mystery to me.

The problem as I see it is Liverpool Football Club. They wanted to extend and renegotiate the contract and that's when it all kicked off.

Because Raheem does not want to be there, and they are having a hissy fit.  They, not Raheem, should shut up and let him go.
