Raheem Sterling to Chelsea

Featured Replies

He's clearly going to citeh, but would be a clear upgrade on Willian/Ramires down the right. Much more creative than Willian and works just as hard. Could start for any team in the UK and probably Bayern as well maybe not barca or real given their forward lineups.

Citeh and L'arse likely to improve over off season and we need to as well.

Are you suggesting he is better than Robben and/or Ribery?

Because he really isn't.

Because he really isn't.

I am suggesting Robben is coming to the end of his career and is very injury prone. He is 31 and played professionally for 14 years.

Ribery is 32 and made only 15 league appearances last year. I think Stirling would fancy his chances.

Robben at his best is clearly an outstanding talent.

They still have Muller, Gotze and just bought Douglas Costa too.

Sterling would seriously struggle for playing time there.

40M good though ? :)

Chadli had 11 goals and 5 assists for Spurs last season.

Sterling had 7 goals and 7 assists.

£50m for Sterling is a pretty steep. I wouldn't turn my nose up to him at Chelsea but the money being talked about to sign him is frankly ridiculous.

Sterling got shunted about the pitch and when he played in his actual position he had Super Mario infrount of him. Most times I have watched him, I have been impressed, he looks to me like a player with more then just a set of turbos on him. But i'f im giving the Chadli comparison any form of notice, he's also 5 years olde the Sterling.

Ive  also said, I think 30 is probably around the right price

My point is that we're talking about a player who would become the most expensive Englishman of all time and would be maybe one of the 10 most expensive transfer of all time as well (or at least pretty close).

That's a lot of dollar for a player who you would be signing based on their potential more than anything.

He had a pretty significant amount of playing time through the middle last season and was at times very wasteful in front of goal.

For the money being spoken about you really would be expecting a world class talent and Sterling isn't that right now.

I'm looking forward to him becoming a City player.

The backlash from the scousers will be hilarious, and it will be toxic, and Manchester is very close to Liverpool, I hope he has a thick skin.

He'll be on massive wages. He'll be able to buy all the hippy crack he likes.

City are mugs.

Sterling creates more chances and have twice the ammount of succsessful take ons. The problem for Sterling is that he has Balotelli, Lambert and Lallana to play with, not Erikson and Kane. When you go back to 13/14 season sterling has 9 goals and 5 assists with 800 less minutes, Chadli didn't do much that year.

I would say Sterling is worth around £30mil-£35mil based on his performance and age the last two years. The problem is that he is also homegrown and the market for creative wingers is not the best atm, wich adds atleast £10mil more to his price.

When you look forward 5 years, then £50mil for Sterling is not that crazy. He will be 25 years old and we would get a good price for him, if we sold him. Compare that with £70mil for Bale, he will be 26 years old in a few days and 31 year old in 5 years. I have a hard time seeing his value over £25mil at that time.

Point I was making with the Chadli comparison is that if you boil a players output purely down to stats you can pretty much tell any story you like.

You say Sterling was creating twice the amount of chances as Chadli but it's Balotelli's fault whereas Chadli had Kane to play with so it's not impressive. It's manipulating a point to your own choosing.

Last season Chadli, when he "didn't do much" would have been playing with Adebeyour and Soldado up front, meanwhile Sterling was part of a side with Suarez and Sturridge that were scoring for fun yet only got 5 assists?

I think he'd considerably better than the likes of Lennon and SWP...especially when those players were at the same age.

He's never worth £50 million but few transfer fees reflect value for money these days...more so when it's a top 6 side selling to another.

His attitude raises a warning flag to me however, refusing to go on tour...calling in sick to not show to training all because he isn't getting his own way? You should be professional no matter what team you are at especially when they have made you the player you are today.

I'd like him here but not sure I'd want that kind of fee spent on potential and a kid who's attitude isn't really endearing.

There will be better value out there, maybe not this season but if we have to wait 6-12 months for a Bale type signing rather than spending the same kind of money on Sterling then so be it.

Anyone seen that he called in "sick" today?

Looks like he's beginning to really force the issue at Liverpool, perhaps not the most professional way to approach this but surely it's getting to a point where Liverpool will need to sell him so as not to be too much of a disruptive presence on their squad?

Yes I mentioned it above.

He seems to be the type to dig his heels in until he gets his way.

Liverpool will sell (they wouldn't buy these players if it wasn't already decided IMO) but they are just seeing how high City will go.

I wonder if he will do the same at City if his stock rises enough to warrant the attention of the big Spanish 2?

Simple questions:

How many players under 21 are better than Sterling in the world?

Out of Oscar, Willian and Sterling, which player has had the best season since being in the premier league?

How much is Oscar worth?

How much is Willian worth?

Who out of the three players has the most potential?

My personal feeling is that we should be doing whatever we can to buy Sterling.

At 50 million is it an overpay - yes, but then again he´s English and 20.

To improve our team all the other targets for the same position are going to cost more than 35 million.

It all comes down to what you think Sterling is capable of.  I think given his age and what he´s shown so far he can be better than any target we´ve been associated with.

People talk about Griezmann and i like him, he´d be a fabulous buy.  But 4 years ago how good was he.  And in 4 years under Jose how good could Sterling be.

All i know is that you line up with an attacking midfield band consisting of Hazard, Sterling and one of Oscar or Willian and that will scare the sh#t out of any opposing defense.  the pace and the trickery would be amazing.

So just pay the money, we can afford it and just watch the titles stack up for the next decade.

Simple questions:

I'll answer your question with another question, how many players under the age of 21 look set to be world beaters onto to never realise their full potential?

Out of Oscar, Willian and Sterling, which player has had the best season since being in the premier league?

Willian and Oscar, they've both won the Premier League by being able to adapt and sacrifice parts of their game for the overall benefit of the team.

How much is Oscar worth?

Subjective obviously but probably in the region of £30-35m.

How much is Willian worth?

Thereabouts £30m due to his age.

Who out of the three players has the most potential?

Seeing as Willian is 27 next month he's probably not going to develop much more at this stage.

Oscar at 23 is the same age Lampard was when he joined Chelsea. That's not to say he can or will reach that level but as a central midfielder he's definitely got the potential to raise his game a lot over the next 5 years.

Sterling has huge potential but wingers have often have a habit of being found out, there's still the question about whether he has what it takes to consistently impact on matches.

Basically an argument could be made for him or Oscar.

Answers in bold above.
