Raheem Sterling to Chelsea

Featured Replies

There's a tongue in cheek story in the Guardian today that we are considering ditching Salah and Schurrle to go after Sterling. I don't believe it for a minute but it would wind the scousers up!

I don't believe it for a minute either, but I would love his pace and ability to get into space on our team.  I think he'd be a better signing than Reus, who may have injury problems (anybody remember that fella named Fernando Torres?)

But it won't happen so no need to really dwell too much on this thread.

I think he looked odd yesterday. Was that an attempt at growing Victorian whiskers? I don't want odd looking former Scousers at Chelsea, the ones with Alice bands and a million tattoos were quite enough, thank you very much.

My main objection is that Sterling would probably cost £40m+

To me, he's just not worth that sort of money and you could probably buy one or two other decent wingers for similar money.

I do rate Sterling, I think he has the potential to be a top quality winger but like all English players he'll be over valued.

I was chatting to a couple of dipper fans from Slough (Harjinder and Yasser) and both of them consider Sterling to be this year's Walcott.  I think I can remember posters in here gushing about little Theo a few years ago, as well.

Still, it wouldn't be the Shed End forum if there weren't at least a few posters wanting to immediately splash out Mr Abramovich's money on whoever has just scored against us, had a good game, either against us or on MOTD,  or whoever the meejah claim is the next big thing,

Wouldn't wanthim, overrated jumped up little child. The fact he needs a rest every couple of weeks makes me think he's even less special.

Resting him is very important, he's still developing. You don't want to overuse a young player, look what happened to Michael Owen.

I was looking for the sarcasm in this but I can't detect any.  He's 20, loads of players play every week at that age - Michael Owen is an exception I think that he was unlucky.  Eden is 24 and has been playing constantly for years.  I feel Sterling is a bit precious.  If a top athlete can't play once a week at the age of 20...........well.....

Oh and it's not as if Liverpool are competing on many levels or anything.  Just playing PL and FA cup.

Does anyone know if the dippers get annoyed about their gem flying off to Jamaica in the middle of a Premier League season? I wasn't too bothered about the England thing, but if Eden had done bailed us to fly to Belgium in his first season I would have been very annoyed

So we shouldn't sign any player who is supposed to be the next big thing? Maybe we shouldn't have signed Hazard then? If you can't see the difference between Walcott and Sterling at the same age, then there is no point arguing. And the fact that Walcott is still still considered a disappointment is absolutely ridiculous and only shows the unrealistic expectations that English fans had on him, when he's actually turned out to be a very good player.

Fair enough - you have your view.  In my mind, Walcott has turned out to be a good player, not great, not even "very good" in my opinion.  I can't think of anyone in our first team squad who he would obviously replace. Sterling may well turn out to be the new Messi, but I haven't seen enough of him to be convinced yet.  And the quote was actually from committed dipper fans who watch every dipper match.  I just happen to agree with them.

I think the Sterling comparison to Walcott is absolutely bang on. Neither will ever be all time greats, just little X factor boy band players.... decent on the ball, pacey, but no strength and no guts.

I would rather thorgan hazard tbh. Sterling is a good passer and an average finisher, but he does nothing spectacular. I think harry kane has a higher ceiling to be honest.

I will absolutely trust my own eyes over the opinion of any dipper fan. And I cannot quite understand how anyone can fail to see the incredible talent that he has for a 20 year old. And he's not your Barkley or Wilshere who shows promise from time to time and then disappears. He's been backing it up with stats ever since he started playing. I have no doubts in my mind that he'll turn out to be one of the best in the world and I'd rather he end up playing for us than City or United, because he's going to be too good to remain with the dippers.
