Raheem Sterling to Chelsea

Featured Replies

I will absolutely trust my own eyes over the opinion of any dipper fan. And I cannot quite understand how anyone can fail to see the incredible talent that he has for a 20 year old. And he's not your Barkley or Wilshere who shows promise from time to time and then disappears. He's been backing it up with stats ever since he started playing. I have no doubts in my mind that he'll turn out to be one of the best in the world and I'd rather he end up playing for us than City or United, because he's going to be too good to remain with the dippers.

But that's exactly what they were saying about Walcott at that age and look how that turned out.  You may trust your own eyes, but how often do you see him fro a full match?  The dipper fans say he is only up for it from time to time, goes missing quite a lot and a lot of the time runs off down dead-ends, just like Walcott..  And Zola is right, best in the world is just daft.

Well he's 20 years old, what do you expect? And what do they expect? He's been pretty much asked to shoulder the entire Liverpool attack on his own this season.

As for Theo Walcott who's turned out to be such an average player, here's his stats starting with the 12/13 season:

61 appearances 27 goals 23 assists (yes, I realise stats don't tell the whole story)

I am telling you he is just yet another hyped up English player.

Hyped and overrated doesn't equal to bad. Any English player who is this good at a young age is going to get hyped. Does that mean that England is never ever going to produce another great player?

Would need to build a big creche for the poor tired little fella`s kids.

Dont want anyone so mentally weak as to be tired as often as he seems to be.

Of course not, but if you look at the long, long list of hyped up "Next Big Thing" young English players, you will note that pretty much all of them don't become anywhere close to being "One of the world's best"

For that reason, and from looking at Sterling I dont think he'll ever be anything other than a slightly better Walcott Mk2.

I would love to have a slightly better Walcott in our team.

But leaving the Walcott debate aside, like I've said already, young players in England get hyped up the moment they show some promise or have half a season of good form. But Sterling has been backing up his performances with stats for nearly 2 seasons now. He's not the next big thing. He's already a wonderful player. And if England are going to produce another great player, I would want to him to be playing for us for obvious reasons.

I don't necessarily want us to sign him but Sterling is definitely not your very fast but terrible crossing, giving the ball away 30 times a game, occasional jinking run into nowhere, straight off the conveyor belt England winger (e.g. Wright-Phillips, Walcott,  Lennon, Townsend, Sinclair, Young, etc...)

He has already shown over the past two years or so that his maturity: his decision-making, passing and movement are all streets ahead of all of the players mentioned above, plus he seemingly has the work rate and the ambition to improve even further. Not to mention the fact that he is in essence single-handedly carrying Liverpool's attack following the departure of their best striker in a decade, and also shoved in out of position because the £20m Italian international they signed in the summer turned out to be a total wasteman. He is clearly a top-quality player and the sooner he isn't playing for Liverpool the better.

Resting him is very important, he's still developing. You don't want to overuse a young player, look what happened to Michael Owen.

Oscar has been playing football pretty much non stop for the last 3 years. Sterling doesn't need rest, he is just pampered.

I hope we never go near this guy, he comes across as a bit of a prick.

After I posted, I realised that I should have cited Oscar rather than Hazard but hey, both work!

I think he's a good player but not good enough to challenge for a spot in our squad, certainly mentally anyway. You need mental as well as physical strength to be the best and at the moment he has neither. I mean the poor guys so tired he can't even put a rubber on in bed bless him.

I think Sterling is class but as many have said he seems like a right arsehole.

What are you basing that on?

That rumour about him having three children by three different women by the age of seventeen wasn't actually true (or at least was never backed up by more than hearsay) - he confirmed last year that he only has one child.

Whose birthday he got wrong on twitter when he tweeted his (presumably ex) girl friend to wish him/her a happy birthday on the wrong day!  And as she said to him, if he thought it was that day where was the card and present?

Whoops, all the better that he doesn't have three then!

I don't understand people who air their personal business on Twitter - surely they know the vultures are waiting for them to do exactly that?

Sorry if I came across as uppity before, I took the piss out of him a little bit myself for that reason before reading that the rumour was vindictive nonsense and after that I didn't feel too good about myself...

Plays for an absolute stinker of a football club.

Would have him at chels anyday though. Asking price likely to be immpractical given he's English and young.

One of the worlds best is pushing it but he is a lot better than people on here give him credit for.

One of the best in the world by the time he's 27-28? I don't see why that is not possible if he keeps developing. And he doesn't seem like the injury prone sort. People on here seem to have such a hard time acknowledging talent from other teams.

As for being a prick, so what? I don't give a f**k as long as he's doing it on the pitch (not the being a prick part).

Another overhyped English youngster you see it time and time again. I seen it with Walcott, Aaron Lennon blah blah. He is a good player but you take his pace away and he doesn't have much else. Jamie Carragher after the first leg called him a special talent.. really? Neymar is a special talent Hazard is a special talent Sterling isn't even close.

Once again, why do people care if a player is overrated or overhyped. Can't you watch a player with your own eyes and form an opinion and not bother what the media says?

Yeah i just said he is a good player but you take his pace away and he doesn't have much else. At the top level you can't just rely on pace you will get found out eventually.

He's more than just pace to be honest, his workrate, and reading of the game is pretty exceptional add that in with his dribbling and agility. The thing that sets him apart from the likes of Lennon is that Sterling has got a good footballing brain, that alone will make him a top player.

Despite how much I hate Liverpool, I can't deny Sterling is on the road to becoming a top player.

Sorry Jack but that's bollocks and shows you haven't watched him enough. His best attributes are his passing, vision and reading of the game. His pace is just a bonus.

Good player, not good enough to displace any of our attacking 3 mids.  Also, given what Jose asks of his players, I'm not sure how much Sterling could participate.  If he's asking for time off because he's tired, or messing off to Jamaica or whatever....I can't see Jose standing for that.  Look at the actions he took against Eden when he was later for one training session because his train from Paris was delayed
