The pre-match light show

Featured Replies

How awesome is it?

If someone had told me we were going to do this I'd have said it would've been a cheesy rip-off of the NBA but it's absolutely brilliant. First saw it before the Spurs game and it seemed to give everyone a lift from the off.

Anyone got a better video of it than this?

City have done something similar that I've seen with a moving spot light and the full Blue Moon backing track.

I am liking the effect though, looks great and certainly adds to the build up. They need to cut Blue is the Colour a little, just before Kick Off rather than just after IMO would be better.

I love it.

Gave me goosebumps watching it at home, I'd love to take in a late game like that at some point.

I can't recall any other club doing this?

I can't either to be honest. The PSG game at home will have it so I must try and get a decent video of it.

I can definitely see other clubs doing it though....cue the scousers moaning about 'manufactured atmosphere' as showtunes are blasted over the speakers.

And yes, Blue is the Colour does take some of the drama out of it. Should just leave it silent and let the crowd (hopefully) fill the noise with a Chelsea chant.

Don't know whether mind is playing tricks on me, but spurs intro seemed longer and better than ones that have followed...the intimidation factor does disappear too when it plays gentle ditty blue is the colour as they come out...still, it's an improvement and does get people going

Not a fan of Blue is the Colour before kick off. Its alright but doesn't really get the blood boiling and the atmosphere up.

I much prefer the Chelsea.. Chelsea.. CHELSEA you get just before the start of an away game, really gets me buzzing.

Blue is the colour is a feel good anthem for me, I like it but after the light show it does seem not to really fit in with the theme we are going for which is clearly to intimidate.

Blue is the Colour for when we win a trophy of course ïŠ

Love the lights!

(Dare I say this, not keen on The Liquidator IN THIS CONTEXT, love ska, but the lights have overshadowed, in a good way, lessening the tune perhaps.) Blue Is The Colour still gives me a teary eye and goosebumps.

Oh dear it seems to be a bit of a theme today!  Sorry!

And now Steve Strange has gone with a heart attack and only 55. Life is for living!

If I remember correctly Liquidator comes on before the lights, then after it's Blue is the Colour. Problem is that the bloody players take an age to walk across the pitch and then have to stand in front of Lord Roman as he decides if they should live or not. In the big matches the atmosphere is sustained but not always.

Think it'll be amazing for the PSG game with the full size flags at both ends too.

The guys that sort out the big blue flags for the big games have got something special planned for PSG home apparently so hopefully it will go nicely with the light show.

All adds to the atmosphere.

Love the light show - especially with the image of Costa on the big screens adding to the intimidation.

It was suited to the big man!

That music and atmosphere with Costa's menacing face is a perfect combination.

Like a gladiator looking down on his victims.

I like it as a pre-match light show but not very fond of the penalty idea that is proposed but each to there own.

I think Blue is the Colour is most appropriate when we win a significant match or a trophy! It's a song that should be filled with celebration rather than it sounding monotone and boring.

I would love to know how much all that gear cost. I put some controllable and dimmable led light fittings into a control room recently, and they were £1000 a fitting, with the drivers and controls costing similar. Stupidly expensive.

Probably got them cheap down Nine Elms market.

Was down there the other Sunday first time for years, was staggered with whats on sale nowadays.

Sorry to be the one to piss on everyone's cornflakes but there's only one thing that can enhance my "Matchday Experience" and that'll be 3 points, or through to the next round for a cup tie.

Will we be expected to celebrate when the club wins "Lighting Technician of the Year" ?

Chelsea win....me happy, Chelsea don't win.... me not so happy.

And having the best fireworks in the street is never gonna top that.

Blue is the Colour is the song we started singing just as everything went pear shaped, surely the old thing deserves to celebrate it's longevity by being chanted wherever you may find a Chelsea supporter?

I don't think anyone was saying it was more important that winning!    But Chelsea can and should also look at other things - not instead of but as well as.  You could just as easily say the same about anything to do with the ground - having a decent ground should come into things somewhere.

Has there been any reaction to this - I couldn't see anyone outside this forum make any mention of it.

RAWK think it's a disgrace, that we're 'buying' an atmosphere.

:laugh2:
