April 15, 201511 yr What wouldn't surprise me at all is for Remy to leave, we sign another mature striker for anywhere between 15 and 30 million and keep Drogba for another season. Can't see us spending £30m on a 2nd choice striker personally. I'd be very surprised to see us invest heavily on forwards in truth. I think midfield and defence will see the majority of investment this summer.
April 15, 201511 yr My money is on a loan to a prem side next season. Everton or West Brom perhaps. Hopefully Boro get promoted and he can go there for another year. Probably the perfect spot for him. They're 2 points off 1st, 1 point off 2nd but have to go to second-placed Norwich THIS FRIDAY. Massive game in the Championship.
April 15, 201511 yr My money is on a loan to a prem side next season. Everton or West Brom perhaps. As many have pointed out already, the Japanese lad (if signed at all) will most likely feature pre-season in a Chelsea shirt and then be loaned to a side in Europe regardless of his ability for reason of a work permit. What wouldn't surprise me at all is for Remy to leave, we sign another mature striker for anywhere between 15 and 30 million and keep Drogba for another season. Wouldn't mind trying to sing RVP for a season and having Costa, RVP and Remy with Bamford on loan at Boro for another season, in the Premier League.

April 15, 201511 yr +200k a week for a 2nd (maybe even 3rd) choice striker?! thats mental! what's the alternative though? We keep Drogba who is quite clearly way past his best and not good enough to play for us? Or we buy another good young striker who will probably stop Bamford from ever getting in the side? RVP is still one of the best strikers in the league and if we were able to get him on the cheap from United for a year while Bamford settles into the Premier League I would definitely take him.
April 15, 201511 yr Author The next two games are crucial for Boro now. They go away to Norwich, who are a point above them in 2nd place. Then away to Fulham. Win those two and they should be safe for 2nd and automatic promotion.

April 15, 201511 yr If Bamford stays with us next season he needs to be 2nd choice, otherwise theres no point. If he`s 3rd choice he will not get anywhere near enough game time to keep progressing, I would prefer he goes on loan to a prem team than stay here and be 3rd choice. Hopefully Boro go up and he could stay there.

April 15, 201511 yr Bamford out on loan to a prem club, Remy as second choice and solanki as 3rd choice also playing for youth team Does this scenario also involves a new manager? Because theres less then 0 chance that will happen under José
April 15, 201511 yr Does this scenario also involves a new manager? Because theres less then 0 chance that will happen under José Any particular reason?
April 15, 201511 yr Any particular reason? Any particualar reason as to why José wont go into the season with an 17 year old academy player as his third striker? You cant seriously think thats a realistic scenario? If Drogba doesnt get renewed is either going to be Bamford (unlikely) or an experienced striker. Most likely scenario is a renewal for Drogba
April 15, 201511 yr I doubt Bamford gets any game time here without first proving himself at another PL club. I can see him potentially being the 3rd choice striker here next season but if he wants to be more than that he needs another loan, hopefully back with Boro if they come up.

If Drogba doesnt get renewed is either going to be Bamford (unlikely) or an experienced striker. Most likely scenario is a renewal for Drogba A) I put it forward as my ideal scenario B) if Jose is serious about progressing youth that would be the way to do it C) I think he has had solanky on the bench this season already
April 15, 201511 yr I'm all for giving youth a chance, however throwing a teenager with zero senior experience into a PL and CL chasing side is never going to happen. Bamford as third choice is much more realistic.
April 15, 201511 yr I'm all for giving youth a chance, however throwing a teenager with zero senior experience into a PL and CL chasing side is never going to happen. Bamford as third choice is much more realistic. It's more realistic but I don't think it would be best for Bamford. I know I liked the above comment but I disagree with the 'disaster' part. I think he'd still get valuable experience playing with our first team along with some game time. It's obviously much more beneficial for him to go on loan and play every game at a Premier League team but I don't think there's 0 positives about him staying as 3rd choice.
April 15, 201511 yr Most likely scenario (and for me the best case) is Bamford playing for a PL club next season on loan. If he proves himself (15 goals for a mid table side?) then he may easily be the second choice striker at Chelsea the season after.

I don't think it would be disastrous. A third choice striker here would get a reasonable number of minutes. Whenever Bamford comes back, he's likely to be no better than second choice behind Costa. Depends on Bamford, whether he'd trade more playing time on loan again for less playing time at Chelsea but getting his foot in the door here.
April 15, 201511 yr We've played a 20 year old defender in the PL & CL this season in Zouma, new to the country & league as well, why not Bamford? Of course i'm not saying he should replace Costa upfront straight away but at least give the kid a chance.
April 15, 201511 yr Nothing wrong with him being 3rd choice striker, can also play in the problem right side midfield position so would get more than enough game time.
April 15, 201511 yr Bamford's age & experience shouldnt come in to it, we've signed young foreign players & gave them their chance in both the PL/CL in recent years. Kalou made his debut for us at 21 after he'd been on loan at Excelsior while playing for Feynoord, how did we know if he could cut it in the PL? he didnt do too bad for us either did he.
April 15, 201511 yr I really would like to see him back at the bridge next season, but (this is a open question, so don't 'jump down my throat!!').... Can he play in our preferred formation? 3 up top. Central striker: Not really a strong, powerful, 'hold the ball up' type player. Like Diego and the Drogs of old. Winger: Has played there and done well for Boro. But Mourinho likes hard working players that track back. And if were honest... Bamford hasn't so far shown that quality. The way he plays is probably closet to Remy. And I have the feeling Mourinho isn't that keen on ever using him. Again... I would love to see us give youth a chance!!! Thoughts?
April 16, 201511 yr I agree. Watching Bamford he strikes as a poacher type striker, Ive seen a few games og his were he didnt score and he was avsolutely useless. He is fairly god at linking up, but with his back against the goal he rarely contributes. Not fast enough to stretch defenses and doesnt have the work ethic/technical ability to play as a winger. His best position atm is probably as a second striker or an inverted winger on the left. Neither is really a position were he would play much for us.
April 18, 201511 yr On Patrick Bamford, a key figure in Middlesbrough’s promotion push, Mourinho said: “He has a chance to be promoted with Middlesbrough. That's why he's there, to develop himself and help Middlesbrough. I don't have to speak about him. These last few matches, and possibly the play-offs, are important for him in his development.”
