April 19, 201511 yr If boro do come up and they want Bamford to play regularly for them in the premier league it is a no brained he stays there next season. However for us that raises an important question over our striker position. Didier wants to keep playing, so I hope we make him a player coach. It would be better if he was a fourth choice striker for me though. A tactical, last 15 minutes defensive forward rather than being asked to step in as often as he has this season. We have a problem with remy. I think he is a very talented goal scorer but he is getting injured too often for the amount of game time he is getting. That and being injured at the same time as Costa is not good. I think we may need a new back up to Costa. Whether than means remy leaves or we have 4 forwards with Didier I am not sure it depends.
April 19, 201511 yr Bamford is already 21 isn't he? We don't want another Bertrand where we are continually loaning him out even into his 20s
April 19, 201511 yr Would be the last loan for me Zeta, if Boro play him in next seasons Premier League we can see what he can do at that level. After that I imagine if we did not want to use him there would be no shortage of takers.
April 19, 201511 yr I'd like a loan for him at Boro, but the only worry would be if he struggles to carry over his form from the current confident championship side, to most likely, a struggling premiership team scrapping for points. If he fails to shine, does that mean he disappears into obscurity like others before him?
April 19, 201511 yr The problem with Bamford playing for Boro in the PL is they'll be playing tougher games v better opposition, add the fact Boro will have a team made up mostly of Championship players, meaning Bamford might not get the sort of service he'll need, then it'll be "Bamford is struggling in the PL, he cant cut it ect" He'll be better off getting a chance at ours with better players behind him & supplying him with chances. Its a farce how for the last 5 years or so we keep going in to campaigns very light up front, we've gone from having the likes of Drogba, Kalou, Anelka,Malouda, Sturridge, to not winning or even challenging for the title for 5 years with the likes of Torres up front, this season two forwards in their 20s & Drogba who's 36 while Bamford is at Boro, i hope it changes next season.

This is key for me, I think we should bring him back irrelevant of whether Boro come up next year, they'll struggle next year against prem sides and the service he will get will be pretty limited, saying that, he already scored against prem teams including Citeh, him in for Didi would make me confident in our strike force next year.Costa.. Remy.. Bamford.. Solanke, that's a decent line up. Edited April 19, 201511 yr by EdinburghBlue
April 19, 201511 yr Id like to see him back at Chelsea next season. I dont think he needs another loan
April 19, 201511 yr As much as I want him as a second/third choice striker, I know it would ruin his career. There is no point for him to be here if we are not going to utilise him to the max. Loan him to bottom of the table Premier League team so he can develop further.
April 19, 201511 yr Really want him to get a good shot in the first team. Probably won't happen and we will rightly get slated for it in the press.
April 19, 201511 yr As much as I want him as a second/third choice striker, I know it would ruin his career. i dont think it would. he would get 15-20 starts, and loads more minutes as a sub. do people really think we can afford to flog him out on loans for the next 3-4 years and then just slot him into the team as first choice? thats ridiculous. April 19, 201511 yr He's already better than our current third choice but it's about his development. If boro come up then it's the perfect situation for him but we also need a third option. There's always the possibility of using Solanke as well. I'd love for him to get pre-season here and then 20 or so matches next season, but I'm very undecided on it. I can see the benefit of both. What we have to hope is the club manage him perfectly. It would be a tragedy if we f**ked this one up.
April 19, 201511 yr If he ends up as a long term 2nd choice at the club, something like Solksjaer, i dont think it would be such a bad deal.
April 19, 201511 yr If he ends up as a long term 2nd choice at the club, something like Solksjaer, i dont think it would be such a bad deal. Great comparison. Similar playing styles too with an innate ability to score goals without relying on pace and power. Just classic poachers. I'd be delighted if he managed that.
April 19, 201511 yr we need to put conditions into the loan, i.e minimum amount of games he HAS to play. no point in the loan otherwise and best to have him home or at a better team etc

I don't think remy+drogba have has 15 starts put together, in a season where Costa has been out for injuries and bans...
April 20, 201511 yr Knew he was doing well but blimey didn't think he'd done that amazingly, perhaps he should stay on as a 3rd choice next year.
April 20, 201511 yr I don't think remy+drogba have has 15 starts put together, in a season where Costa has been out for injuries and bans... drogba alone has 11. thats with crashing out of the COC, going out early in the CL and with 6 games reamining in the league Edited April 20, 201511 yr by launcher
April 20, 201511 yr A couple of things... first of, Bammford's a great poacher, but he has so much more, what he offeres we don't currently have, and thats some one to score the spectacular strike. Lampard, Luiz and a young drogba used to be able to offer us that. Willian will get you one a season. Bamford has a lovely striker on him and real confidence from in and around the box. Costa is a pure box striker, reminding me of RVN. It would be good to have that player that striker that can just have a go. Secondly, Costa's hamstrings arn't going to suddenly be amazing. Once you have week hamstring in needs carfull management - see Michael Owen. Bamford will get games and if he performs he will likely keep the shirt as well.. I think we can afford one more loan but is has to be to a prem club who have a striker issue, and again, I would use solanky as 3rd choice. If your good enough your old enough. Wouldn't use borogh again next season as they will likely struggle.
April 20, 201511 yr I would keep him here. He's got great momentum and would be no doubt eager to impress. Way I see it, 10-15 games with us is much more valuable experience than a full season with a relegation threatened side. Edit: Also we've been in this position in the past (Chalobah recently, McEachran after his Middlesbrough loan, sure there are others but can't remember atm) and have always gone down the "one more loan" route, hasn't done us any good so far. Edit: Also we've been in this position in the past (Chalobah recently, McEachran after his Middlesbrough loan, sure there are others but can't remember atm) and have always gone down the "one more loan" route, hasn't done us any good so far. Josh never really did that well at Boro. He looked decent at times but was nowhere near the performances of Bamford. Nat on the other hand was in a very similar position. He was very impressive at Watford right up until the Play-Off Final when Palace did a total job on them. From that point he had to kick on but instead we waited and waited before sending him to Forest which was totally the wrong environment for him. At this age you can't afford to have a wasted 6 months so whatever the club decide, they need to decide it early. The best situation would be Boro getting promoted. We have a good relationship with them so whatever happens, I'd expect a player to go on loan there. If it isn't Bamford then Chalobah could go back, Kalas could remain or even Ake could step up. If a team like West Brom were interested, or even a West Ham or maybe even a Southampton then they need to be considered. If he stays here then it needs to be as 'third striker', but the reality is that we often use two strikers on the bench anyway and that could be guaranteed with the use of subs like Zouma and Willian who cover multiple positions. I honestly don't think there is a right answer here - I think that there are a couple of ways to develop Bamford and that's the most important thing. Ever since he's been here he's done EVERYTHING asked of him and he's done it with a tremendous attitude. He's conducted himself well throughout his career in fact so we owe it to him to get the most out of his talents and I really do think Jose likes him a lot. We've got to get this one right.
April 20, 201511 yr Hope he doesn't go out on loan. Now is the time for him to kick on. If he goes out on loan to a prem team fighting relegation, I think there will be people on here saying he has had a chance in the prem and he's not chelsea quality. I think our biggest problem is drawing the conclusion that a player that struggles om loan at someone like burnley, will not be good enough to play for us. What we forget is most of our young players have been trained to play football a certain way, and are used to playing with a team that has more quality than 99% of there opponents. Some players look much better in a better team, especially youngsters that are can struggle to take control of the game as they are still finding there way in professional football. I think the club are starting to improve that leap between top prospect, and top player. The decision to pull lewis baker off his loan at sheff wed, and move him to mk dons, was a proactive move that has let the player shine and keep up the momentum of his development. I am pretty hopeful next season will see 1 or 2 establish themselves as first team players, my money is on bamford and rlc, but ake and Chalobah aren't far off either.
