Chelsea vs Manchester United (PL) 18/04/2015 KO: 17:30 GMT

Featured Replies

Alright guys, another United fan here (respectfully) and from Manchester too...who'd have thought! I don't usually sign up to rival fan forums but you lot seem like a decent bunch so I'll give my two cents.

I'd agree United fans are confident for the game, and probably rightly so after how we've been playing recently. I wouldn't say too confident though. Just short of 50% of users at Red Cafe think we'll win Saturday. You might think that's a lot, but believe me it's usually closer to 100%!! So we are confident but more cautious than usual I'd say.

Personally, I think the league is already Chelsea's. We need to win to even dream about dreaming about winning it, but in the scheme of things I couldn't be unhappy with a draw. It is against Chelsea at your place afterall. As the other lads have said I'm worried about Hazard... he's class, but I also think we can cause problems at the other end. It's not just been long balls to Fellaini from us either, despite what some would have you believe. We've been playing some really nice football, and that little fella you guys gave us has been brilliant, with Asley Young equally as good, if not better (even I, as a United fan, can't believe I'm saying that!).

I don't mind Chelsea though so if United aren't winning the league then as long as Liverpool and City (to a lesser extent) aren't winning it, I'll come and give the Chelsea players a guard of honour myself!

I'll go for another 1-1. Though a win either way wouldn't surprise me.

so Ray Wilkins was a pundit for Bein Sports alongside Richard Keys last night and was asked about this game...Keys said it must feel a no-lose situation cos you played for both clubs...Ray replied..."I can lose, yeah, because I'm a Blue."

what a top man

I'd repeat that playing for a draw and having a mentality that a draw is enough often leads to a bad performance.

I think we need to show some ambition particularly on the counter. Young has a lot of pace but mata and Rooney aren't that quick.

Also blaming the ref always leads to trouble. The players have to take responsibility individually and collectively.

This will be a game for the likes of fabregas and hazard and ivanovic and Courtois to show their mastery of the big stage.

Hope he's healthy.

Top, top bloke.

i think we will win 2-1 remy and willian. We will take a point at arsenal, mikel will start its going to be like that, jose knows what to do and if its just sit back and "park the bus" he will do it, but we will not lose there, and oh specialist in failure still wouldn't have beaten Jose

What? lol

Do you think we'll ever find out why we sacked him? Think that was what derailed our season in 10-11.

The story goes that after the Inter Milan game Roman came into the dressing room and laid into everyone in sight.

Wilkins gave it back and allegedly told Roman he was out of line and that was the end of him despite Carlo rating him highly and wanting him as his assistant.

Thankfully the meddling with back room staff seems to have stopped. Too much of that was going on such as the disaster that was Henk Ten Cat and promoting Michael Emenalo who was seriously under qualified for the role (seems much better suited as back room staff).

This match smacks of a draw.......................Sorry i have to do this but im never right so heres hoping its a draw till the 91st minute and we get a penalty..D OH !!!!!!! shouldnt of said that either

But we played Inter the season before he was sacked, did they wait months to sack him?

Tough one this - United are 'flying high' or so I'm told (still think its all relative regarding the season they had... now they play a few good games and they're unbeatable! pfff!)

That said this is ALWAYS a big game, and we normally play better under pressure in these; I just hope that our point cushion does usher in complacency *enter Jose' player management skills* throughout the squad.

My biggest issue is the potential speed of their attack/wings and them controlling the midfield quite effectively.

I would go with a 4-3-3 1st half and morph pending the result and /or game flow in the second half (out formation and substitute will need to be SPOT on to keep them guessing an having to adapt to OUR game plan!))

So my 4-3-3:

          Courtois

Ivan - Cahill - JT - Azpi

      Zouma - Matic

             Fab

Willian              Harzard

            Remy

Bring on Oscar for Zouma if we are hunting for an equaliser

Bring on Mikel (if available) for Fab if we need to hold onto things

Bring on Drogba for Zouma & Oscar for Willian if ALL else fails

3-2 Chelsea (Ivan, Remy, Hazard)

I still think this one will likely be a draw and arsenal away will be the game we pick up 3 points. We always seem to do well against arsenal, but utd have always been a tougher fixture for us out of all our rivals. also, mourinho seems to have this over the top respect towards man utd and van gaal (used to be ferguson) and so he tends to set up for a cagey game against them.

i am predicting a draw:

2-2.

Wenger's not happy our game overlaps their FA Cup tie.

“Something should be done about it,” Wenger said. “I’m surprised they did not analyse that in television deals because, basically, what happens there, it is something that should have been planned. Two television channels who pay a lot of money for football have conflicted interests in promoting games. That, inside the country, shouldn’t happen.

“You would like it [the Cup semi-final] to be the unique competition that is played, especially a semi-final and a final. You would want it not to conflict with other competitions. It is a surprise to me [that it goes up against a very big game].”

So which game is likely to pull in the bigger viewing figures? Despite being on a subscription service I think our game will and if Wenger is honest, that's what bothers him. When it comes to English football Arsenal are still just a footnote compared to us and United.

Form book goes out the window

Ever notice how Chelsea can play the lesser teams week in and week out and struggle, drawing or grinding out wins

(this is not a new phenomenon by any means)

BUT whenever the big teams come into the frame a good performance nearly always happens, Man U need the 3 points

Chelsea do not, their defense is probably their Achilles heel, the quick counter will be key to draw or win the game.

Even when United were imperious Chelsea was a team that always did well against them , home & away.

Some posters don't need to  be so Pessimistic, they are flattering to deceive,

A draw is ok, a win better, just no loss - we are unbeaten at home and will be all season.

The following game at the Camel Dome is more to be concerned about.
