just be thankful he does the least awkward dance part of hotline bling

Wow you weren't kidding. It's not a coincidence, he really was inspired by that video.

Young male Canadian musical artists (I use that term very loosely) are ruining European football. It's bad enough that the Spurs dressing room music is Justin Bieber with players lauding Bieber on social media. Now a public homage to Drake has been the most often seen celebration at this tournament.

For shame.

I hate the dab, it's stupid. People who do it look like they are trying to smell their armpit.

Okay... I'm getting slammed criticizing JT's social media presence and you slam Griezmann for clearly a humorous routine on that song. Not by the same people of course. What worries me on JT is he seems very very serious guy. Griezmann just looks to have some fun.

Why would that worry you ? There is nothing wrong with being a serious person. There is also plenty of videos of Terry out there having a laugh and a joke, i have seen him joking around plenty of times in training. Just because Terry posts a few videos of himself keeping fit it doesn't say anything about what type of person he is other than he likes to stay fit at all times.

People who are too serious about themselves or life is a problem in general in my view. Always thought what doesn't click with JT's personality is probably that. However that is not my view on him leading Chelsea or him playing football for us. In that he is extremely gifted.

Now I don't know him at all, just a gut feeling.

I'm not worried at all if Griezmann happened to sign for us in this transfer window, which is another topic in its own right.

The dressing room is always going to contain different characters but it's a matter of these characters being able to work together professionally and achieve the same desired outcomes and that's when a manager becomes pivotal because his role is to be able to get these players to gel as a unit and be successful.

How a manager deals with one player may be different to other players. Some players sometimes need a kick up the backside to perform and others need a gentle shoulder to lean on.

Players are not always going to get along, just like we don't all get along with work colleagues but for the sake of being professional we still work together amicably and work hard to achieve the same outcomes that we strive for. Therefore I'm going to assume that football is no different in this regard.

well, seems like henry got it right, he's indeed the star man in the competition so far..

If he scores a couple tomorrow and leads France to win it while completely overshadowing Pogba's performance then I have a very good chance to win the company prediction contest. Actually if I did my math right then France winning it with Griezmann named as the best player means I win it :)

I'm sorry but I don't want someone with that bad taste for music or celebration. If he wants to head bang to the sound of the "Ace of Spades", that is fine with me, if he wants to look like a tw*t dancing to really cr*p songs, no effing way in Chelsea! But I trust Conte would put some good taste in the dressing room.

It's a lot more complicated than that, actually, and the understanding of what "release clauses" actually are is muddied by the simplified version of them you find in your Football Manager or FIFA games. I've posted about it in detail before somewhere here but it may have been archived.

In England, there are 'release clauses' in the sense that some player contracts have criteria that if met trigger a release from the player's contract. It could be a performance criteria, such as relegation or failure to make Europe, or like in Demba Ba's case a pre-set discount transfer fee and agreement to release if a Champions' League club was interested in him.

In Spain there are no 'release clauses' (or they aren't common...) in the same sense. It's actually a 'buy-out clause' and it basically states that a professional always retains the right to buy out their contract for a pre-agreed value. In other EU jurisdictions you have the similar 'Bosman ruling' allowing a player to buy themselves out of the last year of their contract; in Spain, basically the same rule is enforced for all contracts regardless of duration. So technically speaking, for a La Liga player, the onus is on him to pay out his contract before he can sign for a new club. Unless he's willing to pay that fee out of his own pocket, obviously the money needs to be financed from somewhere - usually, the buying club.

However, the interpretation of these rules is different depending on whether the buyer is a foreign or a Spanish club. La Liga rules stipulate that all La Liga clubs are obligated to accept bids from Spanish clubs that meet the buyout clause. So, if a Spanish club comes along for Griezmann and they offer to pay the 84m on his behalf, Atletico have no choice but to accept the offer and allow him to discuss terms. This interpretation does not apply to foreign clubs. There is no requirement for Atletico to accept a bid from a foreign club regardless of whether it meets the clause or not.

The reason why this is legal is because Griezmann is still technically free to go - if he forks over 84m. Normally, foreign transfers would be done by the buying club giving the money in trust to La Liga who then pass to the selling club on behalf of the player etc. but there's nothing that says that Atletico have  to agree to this method and recognise the money is coming from Griezmann. So in this case, even if we are willing to meet the clause, they can still refuse.

There are ways around this but Spanish tax law is pretty harsh (47% luxury tax) and I think there is a complication that if the money is transferred in the name of player, it then becomes subject to the luxury income tax which effectively doubles the price (so 168m for Griezmann then...?)

Why don't we just "loan" a smaller side in la liga 90m or so and have them activate the clause for us.  THen give us Griezmann for free and keep 6m for sh*ts and giggs.  lol.

The same Matt law that said Luiz wasn't coming back to chelsea the other week?...take what he says with a pinch of salt

It might breach Premier League rules around third party ownership and influencing other clubs, and it's horribly unethical, but it's not without precedent as City are doing a similar thing using their City Football Group structure. They use the buying power of Manchester City to make their lesser teams in Melbourne and New York competitive. In the A-League, Man City even "bought" a promising young player from a rival team, only to loan him to Melbourne City.

While there are restrictions on how many times a player can be registered in a season (3) there's nothing to say that the  intermediary club actually has to register Griezmann, and even if they did, we could just "loan" him Serie A style. I for one can't wait for Las Palmas to mysteriously receive a 90m loan fee for their record signing Antoine Griezmann...

Griezman wins the lottery, 90 million, and will buy out his own contract. Totally legit.

Could always use Messi's dad as their tax representative?

Roman should drop whatever cash necessary for Griezmann. Stunner.

But the transfer ban for AM restricts this all, no? Or just their purchases? Still, I can't see them accepting any offer if they can't properly replace him.

I thought a release clause meant they had no choice but to accept the offer?

In short: no. For detail, scroll up

At this stage,'whatever cash necessary" stands around £168m excluding wages and agent fees...not sure if that's probably pushing the limit?

Ban is not for transfers but on registration of players. So AM/RM are allowed to transfer players but aren't able to register them meaning they can still sell players.
