John Stones

Featured Replies

So have any Everton fans come out and said 'we hold all the cards' yet?

(They really don't)

Quite strange that Stones could well be playing his last game for Everton tonight (MAYBE!), against his former club Barnsley.

...and hopefully his first for Chelsea against his other former club Everton!

And maybe his first game for us against Everton ?

That's another reason we might not sell yet. We've got loads of big teams to play in the next few weeks, and tbh we need him for them. It'd be a big ask bringing in a CB of serious quality now, even with money to spend, who could settle and build an understanding with Jags in a week or two.

Money talks though mate.

If their important games then surely you're better off playing 11 players that want to play for you ?

BBC's chief football writer Phil McNulty on the Stones transfer request:

Everton - who are believed to be keeping quiet until after Wednesday's League Cup tie with Barnsley - will surely reject the request because to do otherwise accepts Stones will leave and hand control of the situation to Chelsea.

Pretty standard.

To accept it would drive his value down, by rejecting it means an improved offer would be needed.

McNulty has never wanted Stones to join us.  I may be thinking of someone else, but McNulty is quite anti-Chelsea.

To wildly speculate I think Stones has said to Martinez before yesterday that he wants to come here. It's been in the papers a few weeks that he was keen and nobody believed it from the Everton side. Bids have gone in since he spoke to Martinez and been rejected, Stones then starts to panic that the move he wants isn't going to happen.

Everton know/see the reports that we are going to bid 35-40m and think "I'd like to accept that" but to do so off their own backs makes Jon Woods, Martinez and the club to be liars.  So they say to Stones or his agent in private, put in a formal TR that you want the move, and we will try and negotiate a deal with Chelsea. (knowing if 35-40m hits the desk theyre accepting it)  Stones gets the flak off the fans, while the manager and board can use the classic  "We had no option, the player made it absolutely clear he wanted to go, the only outcome was to find an agreement with Chelsea that suited Everton FC"

I expect the TR to be confirmed as rejected tonight by Martinez, anything other than "rejected" and i'll be well shocked.  But I would also think that some dialogue is going on between the 2 clubs at this moment.    A Merseyside reporter Dominic King claims Moses may be involved

Just wondering. Everton fans flew a banner over StMarys the other week calling for the board to step aside citing a lack of investment in the club on and off the pitch. The fans know this to be true, I' d imagine the playing staff do too. The Everton fans on the whole seem to rate Stones as a Champions League defender. Why would you expect Stones to want to stay or even be happy for a further 12 mths when yourselves as fans aren' t with the running of the club?

Not sure if posted. Somebody tweeted about Everton shop. I decided to check it out if it is true or not.

They have just removed Stones from the squad list. I guess they approved Stones's transfer request?

Somehow I don't think the Barnsley fans will have much sympathy with Everton.

Stones left them to join a bigger club on a bigger stage, and now he wants to leave Everton for the same reason.

Barnsley will just be thinking, "Sell, and give us our percentage, quick!!!!!!".

Exactly. He'll have the freedom of Oakwell tonight. Those Barnsley players will have been told to not go anywhere near him!

Everton couldn't possibly not play Stones tonight. That would have been admitting defeat.

I don't think we'll sign him, but I really hope I'm wrong.
