John Stones

I don't want Stones

I don't think Stones will ever be any better than Gary Cahill

Buying him will lead to other clubs holding out for extortionate fees again, which the club has worked hard to combat

He did nothing against Man City

He did nothing against BARNSLEY!

Some of you going a bit over the top with this. Its not Evertons duty to sell their brightest talent to us. If Stones was so set on leaving for greener pastures at the first oppurtunity he should have put something in his contract about it. He just signed a new contract and Everton doesnt want to sell him, he really should get on with it

The way Everton is handling this is just disgraceful if you ask me. Should they just sell? No. But in this case, a player has clearly told them that he wants to leave. We are offering plenty of money for him. He can come to one of the best clubs in Europe en take another step in his development, but Everton decides to be selfish and ignore the wishes of the player. If a Chelsea player handed in a transfer request and we would block his move, i would be very ashamed of our club.

Stones is being a professional here, he could've refused to play to put pressure on the club, but he showed the club respect and played anyway. The club however decided to show him no respect whatsoever.

Why should he?

A footballers career is a lot shorter than any of ours. If an opportunity arises where he can better himself, achieve his ambitions, why shouldn't he be allowed to take it?

Who knows where he might be in 5 years or however long his contract is for. He might never get an opportunity like this again in his one and only football career.

He's not striking or refusing to play or train, he's asked to be allowed to leave, to be released from a contract that his club will be handsomely compensated for.

Everton are short of centre backs and defenders on a general level too with Baines injured for the next few months. With so little time left in the window, selling Stones only creates more short term problems than it solves. As much as I'd like Stones, I can't fault their stance at all here. If they force him to stay, they know that he'll re-focus after the window given that the Euros are coming up. After that, there will be more clubs going for him (provided he has a good season) and then the price goes up even more. Perfectly justifiable rationale, albeit frustrating as a Chelsea fan.

I agree with everything you say up until his value will go up even more if he has a good season.

The only way I see it going up is if he has such a great season that RM and or Barca get interested and lets face it that would never happen why would they pay a ridiculously inflated fee because a player is English.

Man City have Kompany, Otamendi and Mangala all better than Stones might want someone young to bring through but Mangala already covers that.

Man U have Smalling, Jones, Blind, Rojo and Evans kind of stacked with average young defenders who have supposed amazing potential not sure they be able to get another average young defender without selling a couple the also have the likes of Blackett and McNair they might want to bring through.

Arsenal would probably want him but would Wenger really spend a lot of money on a CB very unlikely.

So really who is there to contend? who really wants to pay £40m+ for him if he's still error prone at the end of the season.

In my eye's his value only goes down from here he's wished to leave and will again in January and next Summer, he would currently be 4th if not 5th in our pecking order behind Terry, Zouma, Cahill and maybe even Ivanovic so the need to get him now just isn't there so we don't need to pay through the nose and yes we are buying for the future, but all that means is that we needed to turn his head, make him feel wanted here and that Chelsea is where he wants to come, which we have. Everton are in a position now where they have to sell in my eyes otherwise they will have an unhappy player for the rest of his career, as I don't see them wanted to sell for any less in January or next year and he isn't worth what Everton want, can they really turn down £30m to improve their pretty poor squad which is severely lacking in quality depth I think not.

What I hope will happen/ think should happen is that we agree with Evertton to sign him in Janurary or next window so they have more time to find a replacement, Everton don't screw over there defense by selling late in the window, Stones still gets a lot of game time and should still be motivated as I'd imagine he'd want to play at the Euro's and Chelsea have acquired the future prospect they want. To me this suits all parties and is the best solution.

Awful to be tied somewhere you don't want to be and especially when under such public scrutiny.

After Martinez's comments last night I genuinely think this is dead now. It's clear we and the player wanted it to happen but with a long contract and professional attitude (both unlike Sterling) it was always going to be hard. I think, consisting his nationality & contract length, our first offer just pissed them off too much. I did see this on Twitter though, NO idea if it's genuine:

@Jacob_1878: Just seen Stones in the services there, everyone asking him whats happened and hes started crying. Madness.

@Jacob_1878: @PaulDaly90 yeah, Naismith telling everyone not to put pressure on him

@enochfanakapan: @Jacob_1878 Lodda bollox, no way EFC coach would even need to stop at any services, as if !

@Jacob_1878: @enochfanakapan look at my last retweet and my own picture with Kone

Also:

@SOS1878: Mate was in the services with Stones. He said: 'We know it's the board and not you'. He started crying and was pulled away by Naismith.

So, if true, is he upset because he's desperate to join us or because he handed in a transfer request and regretted it? My guess, he's 21 and has just spent 90 minutes being abused by a section of his own 'fans' and caught in a terrace war of words between his current club and former club about a potential new club.

Talk about a complete mind f**k.

Also any posts that mention dignity, history etc wil be deleted even if the rest of the post is good. That goes for posts who quote it.

Yeah its gotta be a tough situation for him this.

Mourinho has always said he would not stand in a players way who wanted to leave.

That's why the likes of Mata, Cech, Schurrle and Luiz left.

Stones wants to go, question is do Everton feel that keeping an unhappy player is the best way forward?

This isn't the end of this saga, going to run until the end of the window.

If the lad does move, Everton and Martinez will throw him under the bus with a character assassination I reckon.

See it shouldn't be tough. It should just be professional. You think management is going to cry if he tears an Achilles' tendon?

As said before handing in a transfer request is like saying to your boss I want to leave to another job because they can offer me bigger things and sh*tload of more money. To take that step must include sleepless nights and probably some crying. Huge huge step.

Surely if he is upset about the request he put in and regrets it, thats the easiest thing of all that to put right? He retracts the request, using the confused/young/head turned line.

But Mourinho wouldn't have sold them if the players were part of his plans. He clearly didn't rate Mata, Schurrle or Luiz enough to play them regularly.

He wouldn't have been so keen to do the same with Lamps, JT or Drogba at their peak, or Hazard now.

I'm not totally convinced if Stones is gonna be the real deal and although I'm not over keen on Martinez, I do kinda admire his stance in that sometimes, it's NOT about the money. A player can be unhappy one week and be fine the next with an arm around the shoulder an incentive to stay and maybe the promise of being made captain or something.

The lad needs to grow some balls though. We can't have a sniffling kid at CB because José is a tough manager. He needs to man up asap.

If it's true.

Excuse my potential ignorance, but does Stones have a buyout release clause?

From what I can work out, it's something like losing a loyalty bonus, but the contracts are huge and complex.
