John Stones

He is absolutely for sale Rick at the right price, in point of fact the whole f****ng club is for sale at the right price! Part of the abject misery of following Everton is knowing that we have a true supporter at the helm who just won't let go, despite offers. I don't understand why Chelsea have strung this out, they could easily afford an offer we couldn't refuse weeks ago, so maybe there's more to the story. As for Martinez comments, I feel sorry for him and any other manager in this situation, every word he utters on the subject is scrutinised to the extent that it doesn't matter what he actually says, people will interpret it any way they want to.

Everton need a billionaire. Infact i'll go as far as to say within next 10yrs every single prem club will be owned by a wealthy billionaire, and the ones which arent are f**ked

Jose Mourinho was staying silent about questions on Everton defender John Stones:

"I don't speak about players from other clubs.

"The opportunity window, in these last two weeks, it depends on the opportunities. Can you do something you believe you can't lose the opportunity to do."

With that presser statement, i dont think Stones is the last

Greater the fraction, lesser the chances I believe. So that means they are putting more chance of us getting him.

I think the implication was that odds are often a load of complete bollocks when it comes to transfers.

They are, mainly because theres not a lot of money spent on transfer bets, so any decent sized bet will bring the odds tumbling down.

Quite frankly he isn't worth 40m and I think we'd be better off looking elsewhere.

If we're actually willing to pay 40m for a defender then we should really be looking at the elite end of the spectrum. Hummels for 40m otherwise can we please be sensible and buy Garay for half as much.

Everton are close to signing the Argentina central defender Ramiro Funes Mori in a £6m transfer from River Plate.

The 24-year-old is travelling to London on Friday for a medical and could complete the move this weekend. Funes Mori would become Roberto Martínez’s fourth signing of the summer after Tom Cleverley, Gerard Deulofeu and Mason Holgate, but he is not earmarked as a replacement for the Chelsea target John Stones.

Funes Mori has won one cap for Argentina and has been included in their squad for next month’s international against Bolivia after impressing during River Plate’s recent triumph in the Copa Libertadores. The defender scored in their 3-0 victory against Tigres in the final.

The defender meets Martínez’s requirement for a new centre-half after the summer departures of Sylvain Distin and Antolín Alcaraz.

Probably has little to no impact on any possible Stones deal but possibly worth bearing in mind.

Precisely.

I kind of agree but Stones is a perfect fit, homegrown and still only 21

Homegrown isn't worth 20m. We were all mocking City three weeks ago for giving the scouse ludicrous money for Sterling. This is no different.

I'm also concerned about him not being a like for like replacement ie natural left sided CB. JT is the only natural leftsided CB we have. Stones is a natural RCB or RB.

I wasn't, it's just today's game. Modern day football = huge money. £40m is a ridiculous amount for someone like Stones but that's just the way it is.

This is just the thing. I don't think that it's a modern football thing. 40m for Stones is ludicrous in today's market even.

shhh  he will go to barca or madrid next year for 50-60m dont you know?

i think it's a lot harder to find a young cb of stones calibre playing at a high level, than finding a pacey attacker like sterling. centre backs are far harder to get, especially english ones.

We need a valid replacement for Terry. Stones fits the bill, or would people rather we went for another Cahill to tide us over while hoping we produce our own CB?

What is wrong with Kalas? He kept Liverpool quiet when we stopped them from winning the league. On load since! He should have been kept.

Oh and it saves us £30-40m

I got the sense he knew something in his presser did Mourinho.  Asked about rumours of Stones transfer request, refuses to comment and speak about Stones.

Then says some rumours you read are true and players can leave clubs when you dont think they are going to,

Maybe he should have been kept but as it stands he has played 2 PL games to Stones' 46. Not to mention he isn't as good.

In the English market it's not.

I don't agree with it but we have seen time and time again English players moving between English clubs for huge inflated fees.

Nowhere near as simple as that.

The English element sure. But Zouma cost us 12m. Not much difference in quality there certainly not 28m worth. Are we paying 28m purely because he is English? That is crazy.

We need a valid replacement for Terry. Stones fits the bill, or would people rather we went for another Cahill to tide us over while hoping we produce our own CB?

Firstly this is immensely offensive to Cahill. Bloke has been a cornerstone of our defence for Premier League, Champions League and Europa League wins. He's hardly tiding us over and certainly has done better than the more fancied and expensive Luiz.

Secondly Stones is a long way off being JT. If we were taking 40m for Hummels then sure that's fair. You replace a champion with a champion. But paying 40m for someone who might not even be in your first choice pairing for a while is a huge risk. It's a vanity purchase of the kind we could do without.
