John Stones

I dunno, in some ways i would prefer he developed for another year or two. i think he's miles behind varane and laporte in spain, and all he has is potential atm and hype that he MAY be the next rio or terry. everton fans will say he's good, but i think we will be severely overpaying for him. it is just a shame that we need to stick to this HG quota and pay so much money for an english player with good potential. is there any way we can bring in a couple more english youth players and instead focus our attention on varane or laporte (specifically varane)..?

yet another hefty & salient contribution to a thread from you...good of you to inform all of us of your current state of mind.

Thanks for this equally important and informative post.

I guess we will see how good he actually is today against Aguero, if he has a blinder we will go back in with our last big bid...if he plays as good as our two we will probably go back in January or next summer....or not at all.

how much do we plan to spend this window? pedro and baba for 40+ million, as well as rumours of pogba for 70 million and add varane to that and we're looking at near on 200 million! i don't see how we can spend that much.

You're not going to get Varane. Real aren't stupid, they don't lose their best players.

Laporte is gettable though and he does have a release clause (£35m I think)

Don't really care.

I think John Richardson of the Express reported it after the Mirror last night, Steve Bates (north west guy) and some Alan Oliver reported it before the Express.

It is cutting it fine now, but there is no chance Martinez has not got a list of targets in case a deal is done... just nonsense. Of course he will have.

Again, it's coming down to which tabloid is telling the truth... will he go to Kenwright or not.  IF not, most likely stays. If he goes to Kenwright or the board, he will go

You keep suggesting laporte as if it is any of our decision!

There's no doubt he wants to join us, every paper has reported it, the broadsheets and the tabloids. Chelsea know it as well, hence we've been encouraged to keep bidding. Stones could very easily have put this to bed, with, "I'm flattered and everything but all I'm concentrating on is helping Everton have a successful season". We know he wants to join, the Everton fans know deep down he wants to join, and his camp have let it be known to the press and to Chelsea, with the hope of a conclusion.

However that does not mean he will hand in a transfer request, that may be pure conjecture from the press, or it may be something his camp are threatening but whether he goes through with it is quite another thing. Martinez is adamant he's not leaving and I must admit I'm finding it hard to envision the move at this late stage. A lot would have to shift from here on in and I think it's unlikely though of course it remains possible.

If he stays it's a massive season for him. He'll have to put his disappointment to one side, knowing there'll be more scrutiny than ever, knowing the Euros are coming up, and knowing there could be a bidding war come the end of the season and he'll be quids in. Will be interesting to see how he copes with the pressure, starting today against Aguero.

We got the best manager in the world back of them, and surprise surprise, he wins the prem in his 2nd season, whilst RM have not won LL since his last season in charge of them, and now have FSW in charge..........still think they aren't stupid ?

Bluedyldo, Blue-sixty-poo and LoveEvertonForeskin have made their point yet again. Thank you to the three stooges as we obviously need all the help we can get at the moment.

How long before someone says they spoke to Stones outside Goodison and he told them hes going nowhere.  Or or or or the CLASSIC picture of Stones smiling and then everyone suggesting it means he is going nowhere and not handing in a TR ever

JT has just put Stones' value up by another £10m...! If it wasn't so embaressing it would seem like a cunning plan between Mourinho & JT to get Roman to cough up the money.

Anyone realised that if we signed him on deadline day his debut could then potentially be in our next game... Away to Everton...

Which would put him up against Lukaku.

At least it would be a relatively easy matchup for his debut.

Every time we play, Stones gets more expensive. That's another five million after today.

On the plus side, I don't think there's much doubt that he'd get a decent run of games. It's not as if any of our defenders are undroppable right now.

Ohhh that was harsh. Stones is much better than that.

I just saw José down B&Q looking for the biggest sledge hammer they stock. Told me he was taking it to Roman's transfer piggy bank. Stones better start picking out what parking space he wants at Cobham.
