John Stones

Featured Replies

It's not the end of this just yet, it's just waiting for the next phase, the bit where Stones and his people insist on a transfer.

My feeling also.

Keeping a player who wants to leave is never a good idea.

Hope we never help them out regarding players from now on.

Seems to have worked pretty well for them over the years with Areta and Baines.

"I think that is going to be a very strong statement at Everton. We have a chairman who will do the right thing for the club and for the team and, as a true Evertonian, we are clear he will not be easily influenced in taking the money and accepting things which will clearly make our team weaker."

The moment Martinez said the above last night the deal was dead in the water.

You don't bring your chairman into it unless you've been given assurances.

This deal is absolutely dead, for now.

They've progressed as a club in that time?

Truth is now they keep a good 'prospect' ... that is what he is nothing more nothing less. He may progress but his price has possibly hit the ceiling this year, defenders just don't attract as much as more creative players. Young player notoriously don't do as well in their second full season at the top level. Everton have done well in holding onto him this year but won't have the extra funding to try to push them to the next level. If they're happy with that it could be said they have done pretty well over the years.

This is obviously now over for this transfer window. If we really want Stones we just bid again in January & hopefully Stones will put in another transfer request. I still don't know why we sent good young defenders like Kalas & Christensen on loan when they could have done a job here this season.

is it true they still owe us 15 mil from the lukaku deal?

Apparently Marina has been putting the squeeze on, they also have to pay Burnley wherever Stones goes before contract end.

Probably for the best, I think he needs to play week in and week out for another couple of years before he moves on to a bigger club.

The media and fans were portraying his possible move to Chelsea like it was now or never. They seemed to have forgotten that he is only 21 and while he is already a great player, he has so much more potential.

There was every chance he could join just like Cuadrado did, Mourinho not actually fancy him once he got him and not give him the games that he needed.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with him staying at Everton for two years and becoming twice the player he is now. Then, if he really wants to go to a bigger club, I'm sure Chelsea won't pass up the opportunity like they did with Rooney, or he'll go for an even bigger fee to one of the Manchester clubs.

He will never be his best at Everton and he knows that. I doubt they will keep him there against his will.

It's not over lads!

It's over mate. Accept it.

the thing is, if they keep him, his form could drop due to everything that's happened and his price goes down, then there will be talk linking him to us in the january transfer window. At that point he either comes to us in the january or next summer, but whatever way they'll be uncertainty over his future no matter how anyone spins it. They have the other option of selling now of course, losing their % and owing us whatever amount they owe us for lukaku, then being left with very little to actually go out and pay for a replacement asap.

The transfer request was always going to be rejected. You do not publicly accept one unless you want to drive the price down... The deal does not depend on this, it's all about the money. Offer, say, 50m and Everton would bite our hand off.

I personally don't mind if this falls through, Stones is a great prospect but 35-40m (or more) for a 21yo defender is just crazy.
