November 16, 201510 yr Come on, we all know Emenalo has as much say on Chelsea transfers as a random user on the forum here does. I'm fairly sure he's whole job as Director of Football is to dictate transfers.
November 16, 201510 yr I'm fairly sure he's whole job as Director of Football is to dictate transfers. On the official website his formal title is "technical director". Nomenclature here is not the important part, though. According to his profile he "supports the work of the first team manager, leading the club's international and domestic scouting network, and assists in driving the technical programmes of our Academy and international youth network." Doesn't sound like a guy who dictates the transfers.

November 16, 201510 yr I actually think before this summer he had done well. He was pragmatic and put in place the conditions for us to get Costa and Fabregas summer 2014. We f**ked up in the summer and that may lose us an awful lot of money in missing out on the Champions League. But let the lesson be learned. Get us some guns in January and let's try again.
November 16, 201510 yr Must the open cheque book always be the solution to the problem? "As José said himself, results have not been good enough and the team's performances must improve. However, we believe that we have the right manager to turn this season around and THAT HE HAS THE SQUAD WITH WHICH TO DO IT.". That was the second paragraph of the vote of confidence handed out to Jose and going by the last lines, I don't think there will be massive spending in Jan as rumors suggest.

Well, you wouldn't tell the players they're crap when their confidence is already low, so there is more politics than truth in these words. Having said that, I don't think we will make major transfers either. Not because we don't want to, but because it's January and - more importantly - because we will find it harder to attract top talent in general.

You could be right pythonlu, maybe the club isn't making its transfer plans known. Let's see though. Yea, Jan is definitely a wrong time to be making huge signings.

So by leading said scouting network he surely dictates which targets to pursue? As for "supporting the work" of the manager surely that's the point of his assistants? Not a fan of these types of roles personally, they often seem a point of conflict at clubs.
November 17, 201510 yr The position is supposed to support the manager's work in regards to dealing with the board, not the first team.

Technical Director is different from Director of Football. Ed woodward is a DoF. Both work with the manager, they ask the manager where the team is weak, with the scout network at their disposal come up with targets ( that is if the manager has no preferred target), report back to the manager for his preference. After targets have been agreed on, the DoF begins negotiations while the technical director as Barry pointed out is the intermediary btw the manager and the board, he gives the target list to the board. His job is done.
November 19, 201510 yr Should Chelsea sack Michael Emenalo over the club’s failed transfer policy? http://metro.co.uk/2015/11/17/should-chelsea-sack-michael-emenalo-over-the-clubs-failed-transfer-policy-5496882/#ixzz3rxAfkx00
November 19, 201510 yr Has given his first interview to the telegraph...it's a big piece without really telling us that much...reads like a heavily sanitised piece of pr from the club...as you'd expect he says Jose not going anywhere, but real issues over player recruitment is dodged somewhat...doesn't really say why things have gone wrong and says missing out on stones for example can't be blamed for their troubles...bet Jose doesn't agree
November 20, 201510 yr What did everyone expect Emanalo to do exactly??? Sign Stones for 65mil and sign Pogba for 80m with 350k a week wages????? That's the only way we were signing them. Anything to please Jose right
November 20, 201510 yr He told the Daily Telegraph: “We understand as a club this is football and you don’t always get what you want – and that is not to suggest that we didn’t get what we want. We understand that as long as we have done things right and made the right effort there is no need to have regrets. A couple of years ago it was well documented we tried to get [Wayne] Rooney. We didn’t get Rooney and we still finished second (eh, actually we finished third but no problem,we sometimes forget these little details unless we don't care about the club, right Forever Carefree?) and started strongly, so there is no correlation between whether we had a big transfer window or not. What is important to understand is that as a club we work as a unit to try to get things done and get it done the right way. We didn’t get Stones, not because we didn’t want him but because Everton didn’t want to sell Stones.” You must have read my post. Bless your heart sir. Edited November 20, 201510 yr by lesblues

The man is tool of the highest order ...................do the right thing ?? Complete liar ...........so talking to Stones agent 18 months ago saying we want him , what does he earn now , we will give him this , make sure you put in e release clause for the new contract .......... the reason we didn't get Stones is because we DID NOT do the right thing and openly courted the player in front of Everton's noses and they told us to f**k off when we put a bid in .............

November 20, 201510 yr Sorry mate, who openly courted the player in front of Everton's noses and made them tell us to f**k off? Was it Emenalo? yes it was ............this is truth of the matter.
November 20, 201510 yr yes it was ............this is truth of the matter.Sorry mate I disagree, it was Terry then Cahill who spoke about him in the media
November 20, 201510 yr Sorry mate I disagree, it was Terry then Cahill who spoke about him in the media you are wrong and completely barking up the wrong tree .it was the worst kept secret in football for months .......read my posts on Stones and you will see how long ago we stated our interest .............but not to Everton ............ I haven't seen a article where emenalo spoke about John Stones. I would go through your posts.
November 20, 201510 yr I haven't seen a article where emenalo spoke about John Stones. I would go through your posts. you are not going to see it in the press ..........but I can say with complete certainty what was discussed over 18 months year ago between both parties ,,,,,,,,,,,,and Emenalo started and initiated the dialogue

November 20, 201510 yr Given our defensive woes this season, his laughable comment that missing out on stones wasn't a problem says it all...I actually think Everton would have sold him if we'd not taken the piss with the bids...by the time we got to a level what he's worth, Kenwright was under all sorts of pressure from Everton fans over his lack of spending...protests had begun etc...he could hardly sell prize asset then...if we'd got it sorted before start of the season, like we did with Fabregas and Costa last year, me thinks he'd be wearing cfc blue now...I fear we won't see him at the bridge now...too many others in the race
