December 11, 201510 yr I was thinking the same last night but with our 2010 double winning team. The midfield three of Lampard, Ballack and Essien would tear this team to pieces.
December 11, 201510 yr Author Given he was a key member of the 2005 team I've always felt a greater affinity towards Robben, but if you take the Premier League stats at face value... Robben from 04/05 to 06/07 15 goals, 19 assists Hazard from 12/13 to 15/16 37 goals, 36 assists Good stat, although they only tell part of the story

The midfield three of Lampard, Ballack and Essien would tear this team to pieces. 2010 double side was great on it's day and Carlo would let them run riot even when the game was won ( a few 7-0s and one 8-0 if I remember rightly), unlike Jose, who prefers the pragmatic approach... But 2005 was far stronger mentally, had more weapons to cause a threat...the 2010 team lost far more and also disappointed in cl going out in last 16 to Jose's inter of course...the 2005 team beat a great barca side and Bayern before being bored to death by Liverpool
December 11, 201510 yr Another question, why are there no players being produced of that kind of quality any more? I look around Europe and there are very few young players in the modern game who stand out as world beaters. Neymar would probably be the only one tbh.
December 11, 201510 yr You guys do remember had the ghost goal not been given, Cech would've been sent off and a penalty awarded to Liverpool right? Given the fact that we couldn't beat them at home, couldn't score past them after going 1 goal down and had Cech suspended for the final, it would've been a difficult task.

The ref either didn't think it was a pen or he played advantage, I doubt he would have pulled it back for a pen, Liverpool played well, but we were probably the better team over the two legs and I would have been confident heading in to the final, Cudicini was world class.
December 11, 201510 yr Would say that only Arsenal Invincibles and United 99 & 08 could be considered in the same tier.
December 12, 201510 yr https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Qaovod6JgM My favourite game (excluding the finals that won us titles), recommended to watch for any Chelsea fan and bring back great memories. As for my greatest Chelsea team (XI and subs bench) that I would for Mourinho to have right now: P. CECH Courtois A. Cesar Carvalho J. TERRY A. COLE Ferreira CAHILL M. Essien Makelele F. Lampard N. Matic M. Ballack Robben Hazard Duff Drogba Gudjohnsen Full of spirit and character, and would probably go undefeated in this years PL. Edited December 12, 201510 yr by Saru
December 12, 201510 yr I think the only 3 from today's squad that would get in that side would be Dave at left back over Gallas/ Bridge, Hazard over Duff and Matic over Tiago. So i'd line up like this: Cech Fereira Carvalho JT Dave Lamps Maka Matic Robben Drogba Hazard Damn, that team most certainly would have won the treble or quadruple ;) it would have been a dream to watch, just awesome :)

He was that good back then and got even better with age, just like wine. Cheers ;)

December 12, 201510 yr If the 2005 team had played the invincibles, then they would have been defeated in the league long before Mike Riley became United's twelfth man. The one loss was because of a dodgy penalty decision and we probably would have won the champions league had Liverpool not scored a ‘goal’ before goal line technology had been invented, shocking decision to allow it anyway, then Eidur misses a sitter which almost hits Carragher's ass. That dodgy penalty was won by future Chelsea player Anelka......it's weird how things turn out. I remember David James having world class game for City that day. Us losing the Champions League semi final against Liverpool should never have happened, Lampard of all people missed a chance he would usually have buried in the first leg, if he had scored that then the second leg would have been very different. Oh well, it's done now. Us winning the Champions League in 2012 has made it easier to deal with now. Another question, why are there no players being produced of that kind of quality any more? I look around Europe and there are very few young players in the modern game who stand out as world beaters. Neymar would probably be the only one tbh. There is quality still around, just not as much of it. Football today seem's to be all about close touch control and flashy passing. Most of the world class players today are all the same type of players. There aren't any Drogba's anymore, no Ronaldhino's, no Henry's, no Lampard's, no Makelele's, no Shevchenko's, no Terry's. There were so many world class players around 10 years ago.

December 13, 201510 yr I love that Mikel had the humility to put himself on the bench so he could shore up the game with 15 minutes left. Also it still doesn't seem to be recognised that Joe Cole isn't a number 10.

Incredible game of football, i haven't seen a Chamipons League game as good as this one. Our start was amazing, i couldn't believe what i was seeing when we scored 3 early goals, we stunned Barcelona, then Barcelona got their penalty and Ronaldhino scored that ridiculous goal and i was a bag of nerves for the rest of the game. Then Terry scored his goal and i went nut's, then i was nervous again soon after for the rest of the match.
