We need a new central midfield

Featured Replies

Like to know the name of the person who thought out of form Torres for 50m was better than Suarez @ 22m... even I knew Suarez was a beast and had WC potential when at AJAX and Im certainly not "in the know" when it comes to these things.

Tbf suarez was tearing up the Dutch league, but hadn't proved himself at a higher level than that in europe, so I can understand why we would be hesitant to sign him, especially with his discipline problems, and possibly the kezman transfer also cast doubts for us.

I find it more shocking we chose to buy torres for 50m instead of aguero for 40m!

Torres was sh*te for us, and was crocked before we signed him, but that 50 mill was well spent for two reasons, the goal in barca and winning the corner in the last minute in Munich, where drogs equalised from, two of our best nights as fans ever!

I'm hoping for some radical changes to our midfield for next season. I'm tired of seeing a couple of slow DMs, whenever Fabregas is resting, who ends up as central defenders when we are under pressure. I want us to take control of midfield again and not allow our oposition time inside our own half for long periodes of time.

We need someone like A Noble, good on the ball, loads of energy, but a ratty little bugger in the Wise mould, my ideal choice would be Verratti.

Hate that little jackrabbit.  But damn if he's not a good player.   Lucky for us he doesn't look to be playing on wednesday

IVe been saying this for a good while. The way imbula was breezing past them was ridiculous.

Vidal I think is a pipe dream.

He’s only had the one season at Bayern and Carlo is coming in for Pep.

Carlo won’t be letting a player like Vidal leave, not a chance.

We will probably be linked with about 30 odd players from now until next season starts, 90% of those names will be speculation and nothing more.

True, nainngolan may be more realistic, only thing is, i cant see roma letting him and pjanic leave.

If matic hits form, pjanic would be sufficient. Vidal / nainggolan would be a luxury.

What actually is a holding player, no such quality needed, you need a ball winner that can pass, a Keane Viera, {Matic, more last year}, i thoroughly detest the word holding midfielder, it just sounds like he "Holds" play up, players never used to be called that!!!

Seen us linked with both pjanic and vidal, can you imagine a midfield trio of pjanic, vidal and fabregas!!

I can imagine it being torn apart yes. Not one of those players can hold.

Vidal is a phenomonal all rounder. His defensive skills should not be forgotten, in the past he has occasionally been used as an emergency cb back in his days at juve. Just because he is mega going forward doesn't mean his defensive skills are lacking. Pjanic not as good all rounder, but still no slouch when it comes to tackling. Those two's work rate and ability to retain possession would be awesome, plus when you consider the threat from outside the box, it would totally change the dynamic of our team, teams would no longer be able to park all their players in their box whilst we try and find a way through, they would actually have to close down them two, making lots more room for costa, willian and hazard to operate in. Think back to juve's midfield of vidal, pogba and pirlo, a not dis-similar trio. That one worked very well, right?!

Makalele was a holding mid, probably also one of the best midfielders we've ever had. Vital to a team, someone who will sacrifice joining the attack to defend. Like Busquets does for Barca.

Juve's midfield worked because they were the dominant team in Italy and teams sat back against them, kind of like Bayern at the minute. Not disputing Vidal's defensive ability but when he's up attacking and we get caught on the break we need the holding mid there waiting to snatch up and play.

When do you ever see Busquets taking the ball out from the back or banging in goals. He doesn't. He stays back and recycles possession.

Does Pirlo sacrifice joining the attack to defend? :-)

Well before we start through millions at it...just remember some of our own talent.

Kasey Palmer's performance last night for our U21s was once again stunning...one of JM biggest faults was his lack of trust in our youth teams...let's hope Conte has a different approach

He's was outstanding and embarrassed Phil Jones several times.
